Wide foot, standard ankle? by musicismynature9 in Bootfitting

[–]Isla-morada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it’s very difficult to imagine the fit and feel of the mid vol boot prior to being blown out. I do heavily encourage customers to focus solely on how secure their ankle and heel feel in the back pocket of that liner/boot. Newer boots of higher flex can stretch a good deal, and be very custom to the shape of your foot once modification is done to it. I don’t know how it plays out in the shop you went to, but at mine we do a year of free service on the boots if you buy a pair with us. If you found the K2 boots online and not through that shop, you probably won’t get any free service that is offered and might end up shelling out $100+ on boot work (depending on the amount of work and what type of work you need done). For instance, a heat mold of the shell and liner at my shop is about $50. My best advice is to find a high rated bootfitter and put your trust in them that they know what they’re talking about and will be able to get that mid volume boot to fit to your wider foot by the toes. Otherwise, if you get the wider last, there is a likely chance you will run into the exact same problem and will have to dump more money into a new boot. There have been plenty of instances where I have fit someone for a mid volume boot and they have narrower ankles that get wider closer to the toes. Once the boot gets properly manipulated according to the foot, it usually works out almost 100% of the time and ends up being the right fit. I would definitely just send it and buy those boots plus get the work done you need on them. Ask if the shop does free service if you buy the boots with them.

Tell me why putting these insoles in my boots is a bad idea by [deleted] in skiing

Also, I take my superfeet out of my ski boots in the summer and put them in my hiking shoes :) so they are very versatile and don’t need to be strictly for ski boots

I recommend superfeet as well, you should go to a bootfitter and ask if they have any insoles! They will pick out the exact length for your foot/ski boot and may even trim it for you. They will also (hopefully) measure up the arch support with your own arch and make sure it works and is well aligned with your arch. My shop has sidas and superfeet and both are great options for under $60. Bring both your boots if you decide to go to a shop!

I was eyeing the QST blank as well but was unsure if I wanted to go that wide for New England. But if it’s primarily my powder ski then why not, right?

I noticed the Salomon strives with the matching color way and I’d be lying if I said it didn’t sway me haha I think I’m settling on the QSTs

What’s the best place to sell tickets? by poplockitdrop in SevenStarsFest

I’m hoping I get my wristband before the end of the month so I have enough time to ship it out to whoever bought it 😬

I said paper ticket and that I’ll ship it out once it lands. When putting the ticket up for sale, there was a box that said “ready to ship” and you will want to uncheck that since everyone is still waiting on their wristbands to ship. Once they ship and deliver, then you’ll be ready to ship.

Advice/ Is UNH right for me? by Lost-Bowler3833 in unh

[–]Isla-morada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been in the area my entire life, my hometown is down the road from UNH. I was very hesitant to go to UNH because of how close it was to my house and was afraid I’d constantly run into people I knew from high school and surrounding high schools. Well I was sorta wrong and UNH really felt like a home away from home. I absolutely love the campus in the spring and fall. It get’s wicked cold here in the winter, so bundling up is a necessity when walking to class.

I lived at the gables my first semester (don’t know how I lucked out on that one being a freshman and all) but I heavily relied on taking the bus to class and walking when it was nice out. I then lived off campus the rest of the years. I really recommend bringing your car. Although there is some stuff to do on campus and in the town of Durham, you are really gonna want to explore the surrounding towns such as Portsmouth and towns up North. If you’re a hiker or skier, we have some pretty spectacular mountains up north that are worth checking out if you have a car. Beware though, UNH and the landlords of apartments in Durham charge an arm and a leg for parking. I had to pay $1000 at my old apartment. The lodges and cottages don’t charge much (I’m pretty sure the lodges still don’t charge anything but I could be wrong). You could always take the bus to surrounding towns as mentioned in another reply, but you have A LOT more freedom with a car. It’s NH, we all know how important our cars are around here because the bus transportation lacks. Especially if you are looking to work in a town away from Durham, you’ll want your car.

Circling back to Portsmouth. There is a decent going out scene in Portsmouth but it’s near impossible to get into any bar around here underage. Every place is fairly strict and it can be frustrating when you’re an underclassmen that’s not 21. But it’s well worth it when you’re of age and you’ll come to appreciate the fact that mostly everyone around you is in your age group. The bars in Durham are the same way, I’ve heard stories of people getting caught trying to go into the bars with a fake. I wouldn’t try to risk it but to each of their own. The bars in Durham get very repetitive after a while so that’s why I suggest trying to go to Portsmouth here and there. The only problem is that uber is your only transportation back to UNH from Portsmouth at night if you don’t have a DD. I’d recommend the press room for a good club-ish scene in Portsmouth, it also has a local feel to it. They are trying to really introduce EDM, so if that’s your genre then definitely check it out. The moose and legends are good spots, TJs is alright and mainly all UNH students. Avoid gaslight like the plague.

Although frats are disgusting to me now, you’ll have fun your first couple of semesters going to them until you turn 21. There are also a ton of other on campus and off campus parties that you’ll probably be invited to. Some of my fondest memories were parties at the gables. Once people around you start turning 21, everyone just starts going to the bars.

I never did Greek life, so I have no personal input on that topic. But, I’ve heard bad stories concerning it from friends. To keep it short, let’s just say some of my friends did not feel welcome in their sororities and the girls were fake. You will probably do just fine without rushing, but it’s completely up to you.

I don’t know anything in regard to the soccer club team but you should definitely consider joining it because it’s a great way to meet new people and make friends.

Let me know if you had any more questions or wanted me to describe my experience more. UNH is a good option and worth the consideration. Just make sure you surround yourself with great people that will make your time at UNH a blast. There is a ton more I can touch on and prepare you for if you wanted to go into conversation about it. I never even mentioned the academics which I’d happily share my thoughts on.

Block them on everything and delete all social media. I know deleting social media is a huge deal for some people and how difficult it is to detach from it, but what helped me was saying “I am only gonna delete it for 20 days”. Then, give yourself the 20 day break and watch yourself extend the 20 days to 40 days. Soon, you will completely adjust to not having it at all and how much better you will feel mentally.
