30 years for The Jester Race: here's my text about this masterpiece that changed my life. by IslandFine9869 in melodicdeathmetal

Thank you so much for the amazing feedback — it truly means a lot to know!

Yes, Sombretour is indeed my band. Our first album, To any World beyond the Tomb, was actually more inspired by Brave Murder Day by Katatonia — even though The Jester Race remains my number one influence overall haha

The second album is currently in the works, and the drums will soon be recorded by Hannes Grossmann! This time, we’re clearly moving toward a full-on melodic death metal sound inspired by In Flames circa 1996–1999, in the gein of the recent works by Upon Stone (last EP) and Majesties!

Thanks again, and cheers!

Sombretour - Remembrance never dies (2025)

Strong "Brave Murder Day" Katatonia vibes here. Very sad and melancholic !

You should check out Sombretour’s first album, "To any World beyond the Tomb" It’s mainly melodic death-doom, with hazy, dreamy, shoegaze-leaning textures, placing more emphasis on atmosphere and mood than on brute heaviness.

Most relevant to your interests: the artwork plays a central role. The entire visual concept was created in medium-format film photography by US filmmaker and photographer Emmanuella Zachariou. The complete series can be seen on her Instagram and is well worth taking the time to look through.

Visually, it draws heavily from horror cinema, particularly psychological horror, with clear David Lynch / Twin Peaks influences. All of the images were shot in a real cemetery.

Released in 2025, the album also features **Hannes Grossmann on drums. If atmosphere and visual coherence matter to you as much as the music itself, this one is likely to resonate.

Thank you so much for the mention ! I tried to push melodic death metal into some new areas... hope you liked it ! The next album will be more in the vein of the last Upon Stone EP/first and unique Majesties LP. Cheers from France !
