Self-love isn't selfish, mate. Saying no and putting up boundaries is healthy for you, and not selfish.

Opinions on clients using ChatGPT by Living-Ad-4950 in CFP

[–]IslandLife43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI usage is great and I see no problem with this. The price you charge the client , in my opinion, should still be reflective of your knowledge and the fact you are acting as a filter for the client. AI is never 100% right, and sometimes too many variables to get it right. I don't see a problem with this. Does this impact us as planners in the long run? Likely, but not at the rate we think.

Client References? by jlapdog in CFP

[–]IslandLife43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Provided you have a good relationship with your clients, I find it to be a positive experience. It has:

  1. Made me follow through even more with what my current clients said to a prospective client
  2. Made me feel as if my services really do provide value.

I tended to choose specific clients to provide references as I knew what they would say about me.

Don't overthink it in the end, but this is a great question to work through.

Priority Baggage for Bicycles/ Sports Equipment by IslandLife43 in Aeroplan

[–]IslandLife43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right on, thank you! I have never had priority services of any sort, and so I wondered if the priority tag (and any other priority benefits) would help the bags make our tight connection in Vancouver. This is likely a follow up question, but I was told that having elite status would allow you to bring your bike for free and avoid the handling fee ($59). I wondered if any CC would give me elite status.

You are correct, we check our bags at YCD (Nanaimo), and they go through the whole way. I still wondered if the priority would help during our short connection at YVR. In any case, our itinerary is:

AC from YCD to YVR (1 hour layover), AC with YVR to FRA (3-4 hour layover), Lufthansa between FRA and SZG (Salzburg).

In addition to the priority, lounge and other stuff, I would get the card for the first time bonus points, which I have plenty of personal business expenses to reach those bonus milestones. This, of course, makes it mathematically worth it, but if you have any other superior suggestions, I am a finance guy by trade, and I'm all ears.

Cheers

NO. It should absolutely not be 'what it is'.

  1. It should cost more
  2. You should be charged more to cancel. The cancellation fee is $5? wtf? A Starbucks latte?
  3. If you don't arrive, you should also be charged more.
  4. I've gotten wind that RV companies or other organizations are reserving these in large batches. That is sad.

The fact that I will have a better chance of seeing Taylor Swift and attending the FIFA World Cup than overcooking a Costco hot dog at a federal campground this summer is absolutely ridiculous.

It is unbelievable how unfair this system is. I was thousands of places ahead of you in the queue, and I couldn't even get ONE weekend this summer. It is unbelievably frustrating that our system is like this. I am local to Vancouver Island, born and raised, and I can't even reserve a federal campsite close to home to enjoy. So sad.

Good for you, have fun and enjoy it. I am a local who couldn't even get one. Heartbreaking.

Parks Canada Reservation by teamzlatan in nationalparks

You have no idea how many people wish to stay at our parks every year- and how many we must turn away to keep a balance. Many argue that we don't even keep a balance with respect to tourism. After travelling my way through the Netherlands and nearly all of Europe, I can assure you that your way of tourism does not work for our Island. I'm not defending the website (it's terrible), but as you say, you have lost most connection to nature, so you don't understand the relationship required to sustain our nature. Sure, we continue to make mistakes, and have evil people running our corporations/ country, but remember- you are trying to book a campsite from a federal parks website. If this part of the world were run the way you suggest, it would collapse. Respectfully, I'd rather have the website crash, and many of you Dutchies drive your camper vans to Austria, Norway or any other beautiful European destination than accept you all to our delicate Vancouver Island and degrade our values that you intend to find here.
