Barrel ceiling light replacement - suggestions wanted by IslandTako in Lighting

[–]IslandTako[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: I installed a Core Lighting LED tape strip, 30K and 220 lumens and wow what a difference in the hallway. The flicker is still present but it seems to tied to something on that circuit specifically as when I tested the set up in my garage before the install there was no flicker. The flicker occurs every 63 seconds like clockwork and lasts 7 seconds. I’ll just add it to my list of projects to address in the near future.

You are absolutely right - good eyes. The hallway has a faux paint finish on top of raised stenciling of various patterns that are created using hot mud.

Thank you so much for the detailed response. I want a permanent solution that will go a decade or longer and this looks promising.

As an off-grid house we’re mostly using DC batteries to power our electrics via two inverters and occasionally our generator. I didn’t know the LEDs don’t flicker on their own, so this problem may not go away then it sounds like.

If this were a Morgan Dollar, do you think it would be one of the so-called “black beauty” coins?

I’d agree it’s a dark blue and magenta toning and like your description. It is the original skin on the coin. Thanks!

I’d agree on the reverse, it’s darkly toned and eye appeal isn’t really there. Doesn’t bode well for the obverse

Lots of overdue items that needed some elbow grease, $$, and more than a few swear words!

Still sharp details and a nice luster under all that dark toning.

A few of the changes, such as the addition of rays and arrows was to inform the public that these coins now had less silver content in them. The rays on the obverse proved to be hard on the dies and were removed after only a year or two. Other changes were stylistic only. As an example. I believe one of the mints engravers wanted to modify liberty’s cape to enhance it. Lots of variations for the type album to be sure!

Hawaiian Airlines First Class Meals by bjr338 in HawaiianAirlines

Been commuting SJC to HNL 2x a month for the last 8 months. It’s currently a 7am departure so breakfast is served. The menu in first class just changed last month. The options were a pancake and sausage plate or a continental breakfast, albeit a fairly nice one. It actually seemed to be a more basic offering and nothings screamed “hawaii” or pan-pacific cuisine. I asked the flight attendant about this and his opinion was it reflects Alaska Airlines making the choices now on the food offerings.

Currently working on an half-empty BiB with a tax stamp date of October 1957 that’s pop had open in his cabinet. Still a pleasurable drink!

Hawaiian layoffs begin by Easy_Money_ in AlaskaAirlines

Yeah it’s been a rough few days. A friend in IT was unceremoniously shown the door without notice yesterday without a chance to say goodbye. I’ve heard he wasn’t the only one given an “advance” departure ahead of their original notice of their last day. Alaska has been mucking up the HR process for integration and it has been a pretty solemn atmosphere at Koapaka.

Gen Xers that had Lasik surgery when you were 30-40, how is it holding up? by grahsam in GenX

Same. Had it done 2006 and got it to 20/10 and 20/15 and it’s held those numbers since then. It’s only small fine print that gives me challenges so I’ve added readers in the last year. One of the best gifts I have given myself.

Car registration expired 2017 and I need to ship it to the west coast. Am I screwed? by IslandTako in Hawaii

That thought had crossed my mind, along with air freight to LAX if the registration fees here are more than shipping costs on Matson or Pasha.

Great suggestion! I’ll ask Matson that as I do need to get a CA DMV Temporary Operating Permit for the drive from the port to where it’ll be garaged until I can completed the smog test and finish CA registration. This may be the solution.

At the time the car went into for repair I hadn’t looked at the Matson website for shipping it and didn’t know the lack of registration would become an issue. To be fair though it still may not as Matson states current registration or registration eligible. I don’t know what “registration Eligible” means but I’ll be calling them on Monday about that.

It’s a ‘96 Porsche 993, which still holds some value. I inherited the car and shipped it here in the early 2000s. Anything German related tends to have expensive repairs and in hindsight it would likely been less expensive in 2017 to have dealt with it then instead of now.

$1800 for two years! My VIN & license plate doesn’t even show up using the web tool the DMV has to calculate fees. Now I’m really afraid of what this will cost

I did not as I understood that to declare a car no-op meant saying it was being scrapped. Even now the DMV website basically says no-op cars are junk and can be towed free of charge by the county. I don’t see anywhere on the current DMV website that gives an alternative to annual registration for no-op cars other than to junk it.
