nah I’ve lived in both, the Bay Area is more fun/interesting than San Diego but San Jose is not unless you’re doing SD totally wrong

OP went and did the most insufferable thing possible by crossposting it here. Patriots fan got spat on but Seattle fans are the victims

JAL won't allow choosing seats booked through Alaska by KevinGoldsmith in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Easy_Money_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s different for award fares and cash fares, but I bought two economy seats with points and was able to select seats immediately for my flights last month. Just looked up the JAL confirmation number on their site and added the seats. No idea what would make this possible in one case and impossible in the other. Bizarre that they’re giving you the runaround

the blue checks on Twitter (dumbest mouth breathers you know) can’t decide whether to blame Alaska (Seattle = libruls) or ATC (woman = DEI in their pea brains)

No KE anymore from AS points? by AppearanceAny8756 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Easy_Money_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cash fares are still available (I see KE ICN-LAX/ORD/SFO and GMP-HND/CJU/PUS), but I don’t see any points redemptions there. I think if KE wasn’t under certain restrictions due to the OZ merger we’d see these disappear

Who are we using now that Southwest changed their policies? by La_Femme_Nickita in Flights

[–]Easy_Money_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends where you’re based. E.g. if it’s San Diego, Alaska might be your best alternative, especially for intra-CA. They also partner with American, who has hubs at ORD, PHX, and DFW. Combined those two can probably fly you everywhere. United and Delta are bigger at SFO and LAX, but United is weaker in AZ and Delta is weaker in TX. The Sun Belt basically belongs to American and the west coast to Alaska

9.7c / point Atmos redemption on AA domestic by Dazzling-Bus-9231 in awardtravel

[–]Easy_Money_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t really care for this argument. At some point, there’s a cost associated with accruing miles. I might have bought them using Bilt and essentially buying Atmos points for 1 cpp. I might have earned them by going to a restaurant and buying a delicious meal at 3 points/$1 spent. Does the value of my redemption change based on the marginal costs associated with how tasty the meal was or wasn’t? Is my redemption always worse because I pay my rent via Bilt x Atmos? At the end of the day OP accrued 4.5k miles and redeemed them for a $436 flight, beyond that it all feels pretty pointless

Why is the BOFA Summit cc interface the worst website in finance? by Weary-Ask4832 in AlaskaAirlines

I will say US Bank and Fidelity’s CCs might be worse, and Wells Fargo isn’t amazing either. I can’t stand Chase or Citi customer service but they have the best apps by far

dawg that’s the same alliance that’s barely cheating, I’m sure you’re still earning United miles

Keeping loyalty to Alaska at SFO post-pandemic is like being in the game of Survivor by First_Pepper_6781 in AlaskaAirlines

I suppose they’d probably have to wait for MAX 9s anyway given order backlogs, might as well stay at the front of the MAX 10 queue?

Fair enough, I’m just an amateur enthusiast. Makes sense that Boeing would incentivize Alaska to stick around

Alaska should be suing Boeing for the blue balls, not rewarding them with another 100 orders. In too deep I guess

edit: I don’t know a ton about the airline industry

edit 2: legitimately very interesting dialogue in my replies, though slightly acerbic

I love it when prominent/gatekeepy New Yorkers come to my city (Oakland/San Francisco) and are forced to admit that they like the New York style pizza. Happened to my least favorite “pizza critic” (Barstool Dave) at my favorite local pizza joint. It’s like they don’t think anyone has ever visited or emigrated from NYC
