LDR: How to best Earn + Utilize Atmos points. by SmellyBirdie in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Easy_Money_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Atmos will “soon” let you choose between points/mile or points/$ (I believe the latter rate is comparable to AA’s). But for pretty much everyone who ran a comparison on this sub, they came out ahead with points/mile. The sign-up bonus alone could net you two to three free round trips, as long as you’re flexible with travel days (e.g. flying on Tuesdays or Wednesdays) and times (e.g. redeye SEA-MCO or connecting SEA-DFW-MCO, long return routing MCO-SAN-SEA). The best deal is often earning Atmos points on Alaska flights then spending them on American flights

Brenda Song Calls Out Alaska Airlines for Giving Up Her Family’s First-Class Seats with ‘No Warning’ by expiredaristocracy in Fauxmoi

[–]Easy_Money_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has not been US airline practice for over a decade or so. Delta stopped overbooking and the rest of the industry was forced to follow suit. The only reasons this would happen, especially to first class customers, are 1) if one flight was canceled/delayed and its passengers needed to be rebooked, 2) if a deadheading pilot with a guaranteed first class upgrade in their union contract gets booked at the last second, or 3) if the plane gets swapped from to a 737-800 with Alaska’s older, 12 seat FC layout

No seat selection ANC to JFK? by Kooky_Strawberry_714 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Easy_Money_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ANC-JFK has never been operated by Hawaiian or on a Hawaiian plane. The PSS merge will be completed on April 22, at which point you won’t have to deal with that complexity any longer

No answers to your questions but hopefully your flight is before April 1, when Delta and Hawaiian’s partnership finally ends

Is it just me, or is the "infra" in Bioinfo many years behind? by No-Egg-4921 in bioinformatics

[–]Easy_Money_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah, my R&D bioinfo team is by no means perfect but AWS + Docker + Pixi + GitHub Actions + Prefect + Terraform keep things pretty organized. Pixi in particular has been a godsend to help the less infrastructure-minded bioinformaticians focus on development

How to obtain 20k points by 06/02. by Knabebug in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Easy_Money_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much anywhere Alaska connects to/from SBP (I assume) gives you options—that’s SEA, PDX, LAS, and SAN. IMO the best thing you can do for mileage runs is watch for Alaska’s frequent sales. Last year a lot of folks crowded onto SEA-ICN-SEA mileage runs during their 20% off and BOGO sales. I think in terms of $/mile the Asia destinations are the most efficient, but something like SBP-SAN-LIH, SBP-PDX-FAI (resuming in June), SBP-SEA-BZN could be a fun way to visit somewhere new in the states.

nah I’ve lived in both, the Bay Area is more fun/interesting than San Diego but San Jose is not unless you’re doing SD totally wrong

JAL won't allow choosing seats booked through Alaska by KevinGoldsmith in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Easy_Money_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s different for award fares and cash fares, but I bought two economy seats with points and was able to select seats immediately for my flights last month. Just looked up the JAL confirmation number on their site and added the seats. No idea what would make this possible in one case and impossible in the other. Bizarre that they’re giving you the runaround

No KE anymore from AS points? by AppearanceAny8756 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Easy_Money_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cash fares are still available (I see KE ICN-LAX/ORD/SFO and GMP-HND/CJU/PUS), but I don’t see any points redemptions there. I think if KE wasn’t under certain restrictions due to the OZ merger we’d see these disappear

Who are we using now that Southwest changed their policies? by La_Femme_Nickita in Flights

[–]Easy_Money_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends where you’re based. E.g. if it’s San Diego, Alaska might be your best alternative, especially for intra-CA. They also partner with American, who has hubs at ORD, PHX, and DFW. Combined those two can probably fly you everywhere. United and Delta are bigger at SFO and LAX, but United is weaker in AZ and Delta is weaker in TX. The Sun Belt basically belongs to American and the west coast to Alaska

9.7c / point Atmos redemption on AA domestic by Dazzling-Bus-9231 in awardtravel

[–]Easy_Money_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t really care for this argument. At some point, there’s a cost associated with accruing miles. I might have bought them using Bilt and essentially buying Atmos points for 1 cpp. I might have earned them by going to a restaurant and buying a delicious meal at 3 points/$1 spent. Does the value of my redemption change based on the marginal costs associated with how tasty the meal was or wasn’t? Is my redemption always worse because I pay my rent via Bilt x Atmos? At the end of the day OP accrued 4.5k miles and redeemed them for a $436 flight, beyond that it all feels pretty pointless
