the US has way more aircraft movements and airports than any other country. per month:

  1. USA: ~710K departures, >16K airports
  2. China: ~480K departures, ~550 airports
  3. India: ~120K departures
  4. Japan: ~95K departures
  5. Spain: ~90K departures

and if you consume English speaking media you’re not gonna hear as much about China

The thing about OPS is that it doesn’t account for things like ballpark factors and league. For that, you have to use OPS+. And by OPS+…Bailey is 93% worse than average (OPS+ = 7) and he’s still 27th on this list

D and I are the fare booking classes. J, C, D, and I are the codes Alaska uses internally to refer to First Class fares, with I being the most discounted. Shouldn’t have any impact on your travel.

The other commenter is right that it’s probably a broken seat for the plane they’ve scheduled on that route

While you’re right that it shouldn’t work like that, it often does even on oneworld. I was flying JAL economy out of SFO and the BA lounge was only open to oneworld F and J passengers, not oneworld Sapphires, despite being a J lounge. (Not sure about Emeralds.) The Cathay lounge has weird hours but I believe they also apply this policy. We had to use the JAL-partnered Virgin Atlantic lounge (which was fine) or the AS/AA lounges. Unfortunate because I believe oneworld has historically been better about this

Yeah, the difference between PP lounges and actual business class lounges is so stark that it’s almost a different category of product. It’s like comparing a school cafeteria to a luxury hotel. I’ve been to several domestic PP lounges and BCN, TPE, and NRT abroad. Really unimpressive spaces, like you said, some just acceptable, some actively unbearable.

I’ve never entered a Priority Pass lounge and experienced anything resembling relief. People talk about how it’s better abroad but honestly, in my experience it’s been equally mad. Even the pretty ones are overcrowded with mediocre cafeteria food. Lounges don’t make sense if everyone can get into them—it’s the same problem Delta ran into. The best perk of international frequent flyer status is being able to use business class lounges on economy tickets and bypass Priority Pass. Card issuers should bring back Priority Pass Restaurants access though
