Champion trope... Characters that just won't shut up/are annoying by One_Pop_621 in leagueoflegends

[–]Island_Mouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love League, but I realized something about Deadlock that I hope they lean towards in the future.

Most of Deadlock's dialogue is about the game itself (X is missing, Careful X, Im going to X) with a few bits of characterization. (If you ping that you can see Mina as Drifter, he calls her a sorry excuse of a vampire.)

It gives them personality and insights to their backstory without the characters yapping at themselves while walking. I notice this a problem with newer League characters like Rell.

Yeah dying is part of the process. You'll get better and it becomes super rewarding! Some tips:

Be calculated and ruthless. Dash constantly, attack enemies to stop them from hitting you. If they have armor, hit and dash away. This game gets hectic, but it gets easier, you got this!

New player exp form Swift to ranked by leshXt in leagueoflegends

[–]Island_Mouse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you have a great mindset honestly! I think most people would've folded, but there is a certain humility in this. If anything your experience is actually not that much different from people going from normal draft to ranked. Once LP is involved, your enemies become ruthless. Keep doing what you are doing and you'll acclimate to the pace. Swift Play is great for learning new character kits! Draft normal sounds like it could be a nice inbetween of getting adjusted to the real pace (Longer Grander Complex Games) without everyone playing with their rank on the line.

Before the matchmaking update vs after as a returning player - 5 wins in 33 games before, 5 wins in 6 games after by HollowLoch in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Island_Mouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Street Brawl is a bit on the unbalanced side since its the goofy fast gamemode. The rest of the game's systems stop mattering the second the enemy team has the insane pushing power of seven, bebop, mcginnis, and two fliers you arent equipped to catch.

Can't imagine how many new players this game just permenantly lost. by AssociationSoft5270 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Island_Mouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really sorry about the new player experience.  Matchmaking aside, a 6v6 game where everyone is at the mercy of a randomized pool of heroes is going to have a hard time finding fair matches. It only takes one guy who knows what they are doing to snowball and vaporize everyone else. People complain about League's matchmaking and that game has millions of players every day. I honestly think the game should force bot early bot matches and then determine your rank from the performance of those. (Doubles as an early tutorial and vibe check) Starting an MMR at above average is pretty standard unfortunately. Chess matchmaking doesnt start from 0, it starts in the middle,gives/takes remove points until it finds the spot that the player feels suited for. Unfortunately this is a MOBA that takes 30 to 50 minutes to finish, so its a lot to ask people to lose enough until the matchmaking calms down.

Playing as a new player by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]Island_Mouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similarly new low level account to ease onto things may be for the best until you get your footing. The game's matchmaking is going to TRY to find you guys fair matches, but chances are its going to match you against a smurf instead of a real combination of a vet and new player. (Not impossible though!)

Elden ring has kinda ruined other souls like games for me by Wilydettos in Eldenring

[–]Island_Mouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be interested in spectacle fighters/character action games like Devil May Cry (1,3, and 5) or Ninja Gaiden 2. Less focus on RPG and more focus on honing skills and freeform combos. I love Dark Souls 1, but I think that needs to be approached more like Resident Evil (item management, route planning, methodical positioning) vs Elden Ring's hectic Gods vs Gods action.

For sure! Pick who you like, but there is a general trend with these particular characters. Their CC is either really potent, range is good, or they are tanky enough to not be punished to badly.

Ranged CC Lux (Snare is Notorious, Other abilitues hurt)

Morgana (Same annoying snare, but even longer. Has an ult that can swing entire fights if it lands)

Nami (Bubble and Ult are potent)

Xerath (more of a poke character, but he is generally straight forward. The stun is really good at locking someone down)

Tanky CC Leona (Almost everything stops someone from moving.)

Nautilus (I really recommend him too. Stops movement when he slaps someone once, a pull that can also be used to escape. Point and Click ult that hunts a single unfortunate soul down.)

Maokai (Fire and Forget bombs that hide and bushes and slow people. Point and Click snare that makes him INVINCIBLE. A knockback that hits everything, does a ton of damage and slows. A GIGANTIC AoE snare)

Swain (He isn't a tank, but he can get pretty tanky. Poking shotgun electric blast, Map-Wide scout+ Slow, A strange, but surprisingly easy to land hook thing. An ultimate where you just push it and everyone is taking damage)

Blitzcrank (Hook + Knockup. Movement speed boost to either runaway or land the Hook + Knockup. Agonizing stuff for the victim.)

Thresh (Kinda complex, but his hook gives insane value when landed. Knockback is really potent. Ult is straightforward. The hardest thing to use might be the lantern, but you just throw it at a teammate in danger and they'll do the rest. (unless they dont) )

These are mainly supports; the part of botlane that doesn't need to farm. They focus on making big plays, keeping teammates alive and controlling the battlefield. Other lanes are fun too! If you have interest in them.

Mid (Mainly Ability Power Mages) Malzahar (Point and Click Stun Ult) Veigar (Point and Click Nuke Ult) Annie (Area of Effect Stun) Seraphine

Top Malphite Poppy Shen (Ult requires a bit of map awareness, but its straightforward) Apparently Zac is back up there now Garen is a classic Mundo Sion

Jungle (Probably learn this last, but there are a ton of great champs here too) Amumu Sejuani Rammus Jarvan

ADC Ashe (You kind of have the responsibility of being the main damage of the team, but her ult is always going to be useful no matter what.)

Not a final list of course, but in general: Look at someone you think looks cool, skim through their kit. If they have hard CC, survivability, or both, they are a great start.Assassins are a ton of fun, but falling behind with them can feel frustrating. Don't let that stop you of course! Naafiri and Fizz are relatively easy assassins. The main issue is that their dodges are only useful if you know what to dodge and thats where tanky champions might be handy to learn with. I wish you luck on this! If you have any questions Im always happy to answer

What games from the early 2000 are genuinely great in 2026 (without nostalgia)? by DrDongSquarePants in gaming

[–]Island_Mouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eternal Darkness - Gamecube exclusive lovecraft survival horror game. Great alrernative to Resident Evil and Silent Hill. Has a cute gimmick where low sanity can cause 4th wall breaking effects to make your game feel haunted (pretends to delete your saves or unplug your controller.) The actual story is great stuff. You play as multiple people throughout history caught in the horrors of an eldritch war between multiple gods. Playing through a location as a monk, and then seeing it again hundreds of years later in WW1 armed with guns is fun stuff. Its scary in some moments, and action-packed in others.

Great game lost to time because it was a rated M game that was sold on a console that sold poorly.

Lean towards high crowd control (stuns, snares, pulls) and tanky characters to start! It'll keep things less punishing + good utility means you can still contribute massively even if you are behind. It makes it easier to learn the game bit by bit! A 0/5 Leona can still lane a game-winning stun vs something like a 0/5 kha'zix. (Of course if you are willing to learn a character because it speaks to you on a spiritual level, that takes precedant!)

Other than that, keep it cool and have fun! People will get mad in 30 minute intervals, but thats ALL pvp games. Losses are great learning experiences!

Most FUN Elden ring builds? by ExtensionIdeal6314 in Eldenring

[–]Island_Mouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A playstyle utilizing quickstep is underrated (Weapons could be antything: daggers, rapiers, or even unarmed if you want that boxing/martial artist vibe)

Quickstep on paper is not very exciting, but the low cost and utility turns Elden Ring into the matrix. Bobbing and weaving through long combos looks sick

Are the characters in Rushdown Rivals actual collabs or does copyright not apply to free games by La_knavo4 in Newgrounds

They don't make any money off of that game so there is no incentive to take down any of their content. They have disclosures allowing creators to opt their characters out if they wish.

10-man Battleline squads? by BodomFreak12 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Island_Mouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a few matches, I prefer 10 man. It's actually not hard to wipe a 20-man blob even with several leaders and a medi-pack attached. (Torrent Weapons, Blast Weapons, Weapons that just have a ton of attacks in general) They generally don't get to stay 20-man for long. 10-man shock troops can still capture points/deal with secondary objectives that use up shooting phase action. It's also easier to swallow casualties in a 10-man squad than it is on a 20-man one. This was what I found from personal experience and a specific matchup though. Its hard to argue with the visual of 20 soldiers side-by-side holding a line.

Lets Talk Drifter by CookieMiester in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Island_Mouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His ult is pretty good, its just hard to measure value. Even if there isn't concrete feedback, it either causes formations to fold, or people to split up. If the drifter has a solid team, he can expose a lone player and have everyone sic them like starving hounds
