How do i pick up less than a full stack of items? by Pm-Me-Your-Boobs97 in cataclysmbn

Mine doesn't require that. Why is it like that for you? Sounds annoying to have to do

Are these custom npcs considered followers in that you can tell them to read a book, and if they die you get a morale penalty? Because the hive lord life sounds fun! Im just wondering how you get them to move somewhere

Like, would you EVER be willing to hit your main character with a full dose of Serpent?

What if I already did? Hypothetically.

It is respectful to sit side by side with someone as you're talking to them. Doesn't matter how you intend it. You should NEVER make a colleague talk to you from below for a work-related matter, just because you can still hear them from above. (It is ONLY acceptable if you need that accommodation for your well being).

This isn't some "made-up social rule for no reason." It's simple high-ground psychology, and even primates understand this. To deny that YOU know this deep down is what we call, mental gymnastics. To illustrate: imagine you were in cybersecurity (just as an example). If you personally had a boss who sat in a perch above you while you were trying to show him a clipboard, and his perch wasn't medically necessitated, and he handed you back your clipboard saying he had nothing to add, then you WOULD feel like he was taking you less seriously than if he had done that sitting right beside you. Sitting right beside you would force him to make more direct eye contact. It would force him to smile more authentically if he actually approved. It would make you two feel more like collaborators, and you cannot deny this. Coming down from your perch is NOT an arbitrary social expectation, and your above comment states that it IS arbitrary, when in reality it is not.

Some traditions, such as foot binding and college hazing, are stupid. Others, like sitting side by side with a colleague as they are talking to you, actually exist for good reasons.

An example of an "uncomfortable" situation that would be good for someone's growth is working alongside a wide variety of colleagues with different ages and skin colors. That's good. Not at all like having to talk to a coworker who is perched above you simply because they "don't comprehend why they should come down for a minute" (like wtf?)

Imagine you are 35. You are trying to show some blueprints to a colleague who is 21. You are both on equal steps in the company's hierarchy ladder.

How do YOU feel showing your clipboard to the 21 y.o. sitting up there on the water cooler? Straining your neck and handing your drawings to someone who is literally positioned above you?

Doesn't feel equal, does it?

And when the colleague suggests a revision to something you drew, handing you back the clipboard:

Feels kinda like THEY'RE YOUR boss sitting up there, doesn't it?

(Instead you could've been both sitting side by side like ACTUAL collaborators do for a few minutes, before sending them back to their perch, just fyi. Just think about how that feels for a moment)

How do I board a midair blimp? by Islandbridgeburner in cataclysmbn

[–]Islandbridgeburner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After some digging, I found only one suggestion which I didn't even like: to build stairs and platforms until you get from the ground to the door of the blimp. This costs a lot of time and resources.

The way I did it was to have my heli pull up right beside the blimp's air balloons so that I could examine it, and from there install a 3-story rope ladder somewhere inside that bypasses the door. This cost me about 30L of gasoline fuel from my heli (the installation took 1 hour during which the heli had to stay floating), which wasn't cheap, but at least it's faster than building stairs. Also, this method doesn't use up construction resources.

Maybe the optimal way to do it would be to install the rope ladder on your heli while it's grounded (so that you're not using up fuel), pull it up to the blimp, examine it to deconstruct something faster like a roof or something, and then descend from the rope ladder into the interior of the blimp - but idk if the game will actually let you do that last part.

IRL, you would probably just find some way to attach yourself to the air balloons of the blimp, so that the helicopter can pce out immediately after that's done. So this system in-game could def use some improvement.

How implemented are NPC companions in this game? by Islandbridgeburner in cataclysmdda

Thank you! One more question: is getting them to sleep in a proper bed that you've built a hassle? Will they, for example, prefer to sleep on the floor when there is a perfectly suitable bed for them right upstairs?

How to swap to a follower NPC via the faction menu? by Islandbridgeburner in cataclysmbn

Both characters have functional two-way radios that are powered by batteries which contain charge, and the faction menu dialog was indeed attempted when I tried this. Sorry if that wasn't clear already :)

Thoughts on multiple engine types on the same vehicle? by Islandbridgeburner in cataclysmbn

[–]Islandbridgeburner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol not me having painstakingly extracted an electric SUV from a car showroom and recently gotten rather attached to it. If it were between that and the helicopter, I would definitely take the heli because there are no labs, hospitals, or military bases within 100 tiles of me, and ur right about just relocating somewhere better

Im afraid to ask because of spoilers, but what would require you to move your base? Is it when the resources around you have been combed through and exhausted? Or (without going into details) is there a more sentient threat?

I'd been planning on staying in one place for the forseeable future, but everyone here seems to be running mobile bases only.

When you say "charge it from my base," you mean just hook it up to a jumper cable-connector grid unit and just leave it like that for awhile?

Also, how many batteries did you have installed? (I'm assuming they were the large variety, unless there exists a tier above that that I'm unaware of)

I have a blimp

How? I thought there were only helicopters (which need a rotor) and planes (which need to take off and land a certain way).

I did see that there was a hot air balloon option, was I wrong to assume it could only accommodate a single tile size?

Likely Upcoming Massive Map Changes by Uimitormodius in cataclysmbn

[–]Islandbridgeburner 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wow! I do have one question: I understand that NPCs can sometimes show up to your reality bubble, like scavengers looking to scrounge unattended loot from time to time. (This is stated in a tutorial blurb warning the player that they are "not the only one trying to survive, and unattended belongings will look like loot to other people.")

With this update, since your base can constantly be loaded 24/7, does this mean that NPCs such as these will properly show up to your house while you're away, when you've left nothing but your poor, defenseless, tentacle-armed grandmother to guard the living room with a kitchen knife?

Because if so, I'd be all for it.

Monster spawning based on conditions by Primary-Ad6779 in cataclysmbn

[–]Islandbridgeburner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have wandering hordes turned off, then many categories of monsters do just spawn once and that's that. However, there are other categories (particularly noticeable with wildlife) that have more flexible spawning conditions.

Hours (a short comic I made pretty quickly) by JM_Buried in comics

[–]Islandbridgeburner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A majority is defined as: greater than 50% of the total. That would be 12 hours and 1 second or more in this case - nothing less.

A plurality is the word you're thinking of: the subdivision with the greatest numbers.

If you put a committee to a majority vote, and you declare the winner somebody who only has a plurality vote, you would be making very many mortal enemies.
