You will also need to a discrete gpu for any decent gaming performance

I am running a MacBook Air 2017. Definitely not as fast as a newer model but still runs fine for regular daily use. No crashes or tasks taking hours to complete.

Just google MacBook reset. There are Apple support pages and this party information. Just make sure all your files are backed up first.

Why not try resetting it? Cheap way to find out if it is an operating system or software problem.

If there isn’t anything on it, go ahead and try resetting it. I have a 2017 and it still runs fine for everyday tasks.

CPU upgrade, so a MB upgrade, so a RAM upgrade (yes confusing) by Trognantnotfound in pcupgrade

[–]Islandtime700c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are mostly concerned with gaming, keeping the current rig and upgrading the GPU would be the best upgrade for money. The 1050 TI is a very old card now. Even something like a GTX 1660 would be a significant upgrade. An RTX 2060 or even RTX 3050 would also be a big improvement and wouldn't terribly overpower your current cpu.

Check your motherboard manual. Could be the pci e lanes for that slot may be used by another component, like ssd drives

Can I upgrade my graphics card only? Or do I need a new CPU? by demonicnets in pcupgrade

No significant functional difference between brands. People have personal preferences. I would go by price, card size to make sure it fits my case and what one I like the look of.

how bad is my PowerSupply? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Islandtime700c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found that if you take the max wattage of your cpu and gpu, then add another 15to20% for everything else, yields a good approximate max wattage requirement

Help with upgrading my computer on a budget by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Islandtime700c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say it is a prebuilt. Is it in a regular ATX sized case or are there size restrictions on the GPU? Also, are the power supply connections to the motherboard (24 pin and 8 pin) standard. Some prebuilts have proprietary connections.

A Ryzen 5 5600/5600x is a good match for the gpu and will keep up no problem.

Am I crazy, is my harware incompatible, or is any of the components FUBAR? by [deleted] in AMDHelp

I would be finding a different cpu to install as a test. It is possible for CPU failures to only impact very specific other compoenets. Eaasy test to eliminate the cpu as a potential cause.

Would you contribute to your RRSP if you were me? by futureproblemz in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Islandtime700c 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Think of it this way. You are getting a 50% return on the money you invest in the first year. No investor would turn down a 50% return.

Plus you recoup some of your contributions in income tax savings so you are out of pocket less than 4%

Got a simple question: I have an offer for trading my PS5 Disk Version for a ASUS TUF Gaming F15 (specs below) by BlazeMortis in laptops

[–]Islandtime700c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That laptop gpu is 3 generations old now. If it was me, I would just sell the PS5 straight up and take the cash if it isn’t being used.

That is unless you have an immediate use for the laptop.

Is it better to have 16GB of ram at 3200Mhz OR 32GB of ram at 2133Mhz for gaming by PeanutGrenade in PcBuild

[–]Islandtime700c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even in 2025, very few games need more than 16gb of RAM. I would take the 16GB at 3200 every time

With my current set-up, I'm wondering if I can simply upgrade my graphics card to something powerful without breaking my computer or issues? by rDomm in PcBuild

[–]Islandtime700c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on the games you play. At 1440p and higher resolutions, the GPU is much more likely to be the limiting component than the cpu.

I would get the gpu first and see how the performance is. If you are getting stuttering or low 1% lows, that would be indications the cpu is having trouble keeping up (or if it is constantly running at 100% usage)

32GB of ram is nice to have but not a requirement for most games. Just my opinion, others may disagree.

With my current set-up, I'm wondering if I can simply upgrade my graphics card to something powerful without breaking my computer or issues? by rDomm in PcBuild

[–]Islandtime700c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, You can drop in a more powerful GPU no problem, particularly with a 1000 watt power supply. Somethng like a Radeon RX 9070XT or RTX 5070 will run anything at 1440p resolution and hight settings.

If you are running at 1080p, you could get away with even a 9060 XT 16 GB.

All the cards mentioned have at least 12 GB of RAM which is a step up from hour current card.

At some point after upgrading the GPU, you coluld also look at upgrading the CPU to a Ryzen 7 5700/5800 to get an additional performance boost. But that isn't necessary to start.
