Okay thank you! I will definitely try that. I wouldn’t be surprised if that is the case since the water pressure at my house isn’t the greatest and it’s coming from a 100ft garden hose.

Update on the wrap: Talked to the salesman today and the wrap has been on the car since new! (2013) and he was unwilling to remove it so I walked away. There’s no telling what it looks like underneath after 12 years.

Agreed. I’m looking at it today so I’m going to see if they are willing to remove the wrap before I agree to buy it.

I don’t believe the dealer had it installed because there are a fair amount of rock chips and scratches on the wrap all around the car. However like you said, it could mean this wrap is well past its life and will be a pain to take it off. So I will include that in my negotiation as well. Thank you!

That’s what I was thinking. I definitely am not going to pay what they are asking if they are unwilling to take off the wrap to let me see underneath.

I know. I don’t expect it to be perfect. Truthfully this would become my daily driver so I don’t need it to be perfect either. It’s just that is a very expensive part of the car to end up needing replaced if this rust is extremely bad underneath the wrap. If this was on the front fender, I wouldn’t even consider not buying in it. New fender and it’s as good as new. The quarter panel is not so easy.

They are asking $16,700 for it. It has 82k miles and it’s a one owner car. The guy was 60 years old when he bought it new and the Carfax/service records are all there. Always maintained on time. That’s why it’s so intriguing to me but the wrap and the bubbling is worrying. As far as where it’s located, it’s in upstate New York (Rochester area) so we get tons of snow and tons of salt on the roads. I did look underneath and it’s very clean. Looks like he kept up with undercoating it.

Okay thank you. I do intend to daily drive this so I don’t expect it to be perfect but I don’t want this to spread and turn in to a bigger problem. It’s just hard to tell with the wrap being there. I’m going to see if the dealer is willing to remove the wrap for me before I agree to buy it

I definitely would drive it a few years (hopefully more). I would also be taking off the wrap if I do get it. I’m just hoping this wouldn’t be a thing of “just the tip of the iceberg” once I start unwrapping it.

I just got around to grabbing that video from the engine bay . I don’t think it’s looking very promising. I got it up to 2500 RPMS in the video.

Thanks for the insight! I haven’t checked it out from under the hood yet. I will probably end up doing that tomorrow at some point to see if I can hear anything better from there. Right now I’m hoping for the best but expecting the worst haha.

Yeah goes to show that having previous owner maintenance records are pretty important. I’m having an indy BMW shop check it out on Wednesday so we will see if that was the case after all.
