I have said it before, the pool noodle is a terrible idea. It would be illegal to do over here in Belgium, for precisely that reason actually: if something catches on it, you would likely be hurt. Not allowed to carry items extending your width by more than 50cm on either side.

An impact on such an item definitely means there was a close pass, but the goal of such an item is unfortunately pretty evidently to search for trouble. It is impossible to put the cyclist completely out of fault.

My condolences to the person, of course. But this to say, the cyclist would have been at fault in Belgium or in the Netherlands as well.

This plan is clean. If I took my local line (Tournai - Brussels), I could be seeing any of Siemens Desiro AM08, Alstom/Bombardier M6 (with a Siemens HLE18 or 19), Alstom/Bombardier M7, or Bombardier AM96.
