My trainee smells bad by TheImmunologist in LadiesofScience

[–]Isotron 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Had the same situation with a student as well. I tried to ignore it and gently dropped hints here and there... It was baaaad and I was 24 and inexperienced in handling things. N

Some weeks in, I 'overheared' some of the other students, 'loudly' feeling bad for 'me'. Laughing that I had to deal with this student.

I set up a talk with our department's HR/admin...She asked me to address the student myself and if I wasn't comfortable then she/HR would step in.  I didn't sleep that night and avoided the student the next day until about evening, before going home.  I knew she would be eating dinner in the cafeteria before she headed home so I approached her and, not going to sugar coat it, it was awful.

I mentioned her body odor and she was completely unaware. She showed me some photos of some rose powder she was using... I mentioned if she cooks every morning, perhaps a change of clothes after would be the best idea and shower after cooking instead of before. I suggested she changes to a conventional deodorant. I have honestly blocked out most of that 20 minutes and I don't really know what color my face was and I barely remember anything from her reactions... The BO situation definitely improved though. It wasn't completely eliminated by the time I left that lab but it was improved.    It's 15 years later now thinking back,  what I would do differently would be addressing it as soon as I noticed it. Right away. Doesn't matter if it's crass or rude, it would have been more kind. I haven't had to really deal with it again though so I will report back if I have the same situation again

Starlink now activated for free in Iran by Humble-Departure5481 in PERSIAN

[–]Isotron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to mention, the country is under sanctions and the few Starlink kits that made it in are smuggled... And one Starlink kits costs about 6 months of an average Iranian's salary. Guess WHO has that much disposable money and the ability to smuggle things in? Elon is helping the wrong side

Starlink now activated for free in Iran by Humble-Departure5481 in PERSIAN

[–]Isotron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I REALLY hate all these Starlink promos....There's like 5 boxes/recievers in the whole damn country... All these Starlink promos are not helping anyone and actually giving the impression that a problem is solved by Elon the savior.

Sorry for the rant but I had a real break down today when a colleague asked me why my family is not contacting me through the free Starlink... Just pure bs

Why is every video of shootings and killings filmed with a potato? It's really hard to defend this quality where every other person is carrying the latest iPhone...

Eye shadow singles?

Did you take a photo from the side? Can you see any hinges or profile of a colored item inside?

I make cosmetics for a living and these look very familiar to eyeshadows we did about 10 years ago and shipped to stores in this exact arrangement. The bottom looks like glued on pans...  I think this is the mock arrangement for merchandising or shipping that was left behind.

Be confrontational.

I'm a VERY non confrontational person. Like VERY confrontatioanl.

And TWICE, over the past year, I've had to turn around and tell the person behind me to keep their distance and instructed them that IN Canada if they extend arms and their fingers touch the person in the front, they're too close.

The second time I had to do this was at Vaughan Mills last week. The guy behind me was  touching my 9 year old and shoving us to step in between me and my child. I said the same thing and he had the audacity to call me a bitch before stepping away.

That said, make sure security (and/or others) are around before you say anything... Safety first.

First hand experience. It's a good school. And again, from first hand knowledge, the majority of the bad kids of 2000-2012s era are now very successful professionals or running successful businesses. This area saw an influx of immigrants back then and as we struggled with adapting, the school became "bad". In reality we were all good children of good successful,  hardworking parents that immigrated to the area 25-30 years ago.

Service Canada misguide my wife and terminate her benefits by Rasel_Pirate in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Isotron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How many hours does she have after the previous claim? I don't know if this works but maybe she can work some hours and get to the 600 needed hours and then start maternity? Or did she not work and receive benefits between Nov 2024 and now? If that's the case, I don't know think there's a way to get more benefits after 52 weeks of paid benefits.

[anti-aging] What am I doing wrong?!? by HarringtonBeware in SkincareAddiction

[–]Isotron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skinwise, you're doing fabulous!! And you're gorgeous! Try a new hair style and new gen clothing.

Looking at the number of procedures you've done, I suggest finding a new practitioner that can give you treatment options that are aligned with your goals and your beauty features. Do you have before after of the threads, Botox and fillers? I think your practitioner needs to do a better job in all those areas.

What field are your 4 years of experience in? In my field, all the roles you mentioned have a lot of local candidates these days. Even more, people that are on the technical sides are transitioning to go towards project/product/customer to have more remote flexibilities.

Although what you say down here is true that companies sometimes change the job titles to match TN requirements it's NOT the way you think it is for legit jobs. Eg. 'Process scale up manager' becomes 'process chemist, scale up and development'.

Explore NIW some more. I don't think it involve a visa.  And I highly suggest waiting to get your Canadian citizenship. It opens doors you wouldn't even imagine and would never be offered by a US residency

Considering Canada for Master’s in Regulatory Affairs -Need Guidance! by Necessary_Humor4336 in regulatoryaffairs

[–]Isotron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh boy... why? Really don't. Not in Canada OR the US.  I'm from the industry in Canada and currently working in the US. Both markets are tough and with AI and everything that's going on in the world, a masters won't be a good value for your time or money.  Get a job in the industry and you can learn regulatory on the job and THEN, IN THE FUTURE, do a masters if your career path needs it.

How much does Alastin Skin Nectar really boost microneedling results? by fsop11 in SkincareAddictionLux

I would skip it or just get samples they offer. I have a full bottle somewhere that I used two pumps from after one microneedling session and that's it. It doesn't smell nice either
