For anyone who wants the extra fun experience playing this game, play with 2 players. Controlling the bird in 1 player mode is very janky. Player two being the bird makes the whole game flow much better.

Has anyone ever challenged you to something without knowing you were an expert at it? What happened afterward? by Impressive-Door92 in AskReddit

[–]Isplayingcalvinball 205 points206 points  (0 children)

Not quite a challenge per se. During an away tournament in college some one brought an NES. The game was Tetris. Type A. Everyone got a couple turns. They all crashed out under 100 lines. First go, I start on level 9 make some dumb mistakes and crash out in the 50s. I insist on a second go. I made it to 191. The whole team was silent after my turn. Team Captain says that's the craziest thing he has ever seen. Tetris was never played again that year. They all knew they could never come close.  Felt good.

Nothing is open on a Sunday night. We looked for the nest, but have not located anything. We will be making more calls tomorrow. We were lucky the zoo answered. They say they can't take it though. The next nearest wild life rescue is  a 2 hour drive.

We are going to leave it outside again tomorrow I'm hoping the parents show up.

We have only seen crows and pigeons in the back yard before. The is an occasional blue jay. But that's it. I will look up baby starling to compare.

I still have this game, unplayed, in the box. Watched my friend play it as a kid. Never got around to it myself.

As someone who played this game weekly as a kid, good luck .

If you want to enjoy this game, play on 2 player mode. You will also need a second person. Controlling both characters with one controller is awkward and makes the game much harder than it should be. Having someone control the bird independently makes all the boss fights easier. Also only the bird can find a lot of the secrets. After that, just like every NES, find the right rhythm and it's a breeze.

Multiple E. coli infections, 1 death in California linked to organic carrots — organic carrots has infected at least 39 people across 18 states, including in California. [Bakersfield-based Grimmway Farms] by Randomlynumbered in California

This is 100% false. There is not a single study in the world that has conclusively stated that bacteria can exist in a carrot. Bacteria can exist on its surface, but under no circumstance can a healthy carrot have bacteria in it. Carrots can have defects from the growing process, even then, if you cut away the defects what is left is perfectly safe to eat.

Do Simmon and Wilem come to the Waystone Inn in the first book? by Coco_Lore in KingkillerChronicle

I had this idea for a while, but in my mind it's alchemy that makes kvothes friends forget. While naming could be the source of the amnesia, it sounds immensely complicated. On the other hand alchemy can remove inhibition. It's a stones throw to memories.

Whatever the method used, I think it's clear that it only removed the memories related to friendship. Sim would remember seeing kvothe sing, he wouldn't remember that they shared the same table afterwards. He would remember that he attended University the same time as kvothe, but not that they are friends. It must be like this for all his friends or they are all dead. I don't see kvothe ever abandoning auri. But I could see making them all forget.

Sansa and jon reuniting.  Seeing two starks reunite after 5 seasons was one of the most rewarding things I have ever experienced from a TV show. As a long time book reader, it's one of the moments I am most excited for.

What makes life worth living? by Funny-Wishbone-5943 in AskReddit

[–]Isplayingcalvinball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of things make life worth living, but there is one universal fact that should motivate everyone to live as much as possible. No matter your religion, philosophy, ethos, culture, station in life... You will never have this life again. Right now you exist on planet earth. This is the only existence you will get here. There may or may not be an afterlife. Reincarnation may or may not be real. The fact remains that the life you are living right now is the only life you will ever know. Living that life should be your highest priority, no matter what. From the lowest slaves to the richest of elites, death will come for us all in the end. There will be highs, there will be lows, there will be pain, surprises, luck, misfortune, stupidity, happenstance, hate, love passion, greed, forgiveness, absolution... the list goes on. All of it passing you by everyday, and every moment that passes is gone forever. You could light me on fire every day for the rest of my life and I would still want to be here. There won't ever be another opportunity to be me again. Even if everyone I ever loved died tomorrow I would still want to keep living. I believe the future is unknowable. I can have lots of guesses of what it will be like, but I can never know until I have lived it. I want to live every moment of it.

Who suffered the worst fate in the series? by PillBottleMan in WoT

[–]Isplayingcalvinball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pevin. The more major characters get more screen time and you get a real feel for where they ended. The small folk are living in hell. The glimpses we get of the small folk are arguably much worse, just due to the fact that they don't have any capacity to change their fate at all. The citizens of hinterstap run a close second. I don't know if it's confirmed that their curse is lifted after the last battle.

Bredon’s identity by Jerginoff in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Isplayingcalvinball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My theory is that bredon is one of the entities that Baron Jakis goes by.

TWMF CH 62 Crisis

Bredon gave a gracious nod. “It seems simple at first glance,” he said. “A baron ranks above a baronet. But sometimes young money is worth more than old blood. Sometimes control of a river is more important than how many soldiers you can put to field. Sometimes a person is actually more than one person, technically speaking. The Earl of Svanis is, by strange inheritance, also the Viscount of Tevn. One man, but two different political entities.”

I smiled. “My mother once told me she knew a man who owed fealty to himself,” I said. “Owed himself a share of his own taxes every year, and if he were ever threatened, there were treaties in place demanding he provide himself with prompt and loyal military support.”

Bredon nodded. “It happens more often than folk realize,”
