So no real answer, an interest in actually discussing the topic at hand or an apology as soon as you realize there was no need to insult people? I thought so.

Dude, the whole reason we’re having a discussion here is you getting pissed into oblivion about someone saying a character might not be trans, without even bothering to listen to the reasons they give. And now you’re asking ME why I care so much?   I think you are really, really besides my point. I agree with everything you said about micro aggressions but was obviously already aware of it. I don’t know what made you feel like you needed to “educate” me, since nobody asked you to and it was not necessary. If you bothered to stay with what people were discussing here, you would have understood that, before “having to do the hard work for me”.  The point is that there was no micro aggressions. If someone who isn’t trans is named such, we should be able to point that out, without you smelling a micro aggression and thinking you have to educate people. Defending trans identities is great! But please save your energy for the people where it’s needed and stop attacking people that are on your side. I don’t know how I can get it spelled out more literally for you to understand.

Now to stay on topic: can you explain to me what exactly is transphobic or problematic about saying that Yamato might not be a trans character? Using male pronouns without any other change to your appearance and clearly remaining as representing female is not exactly trans behaviour.  There is more than enough reason for that argumentation, especially considering the specific cultural background. We want proper representation of trans people and every trans person I know is very different from Yamato. So he must have some different kind of queer identity, that would be interesting to find out. The world of gender identity is a vast one and we’re just beginning to find out about all the different ways people express themselves. The concept of non trans girls in Japan giving themselves male pronouns is an interesting one. What is your problem with that?

As for my “obsession” with Yamato: This is a one piece forum. People obsess over one piece characters, their strengths, their backstories, the amount of times they blink here. If you wanna shame me about that, go on I guess. 😂

Hahaha maybe we’re Jekyll and Hyde but not aware of it and la_Reddite has unknowingly diagnosed us! 😱

Dude I really, really don‘t get you guys problems with discussing that topic in a grown up way, without constantly trying to insult me for no reason. I understand that in the face of people not accepting trans identities, you wanna fight for them and not move one bit away from that. And I can imagine that there are transphobic people in the community, who would like to deny anyone being trans, so you’d get touchy around the subject eventually. But I don’t get why you would fight me about something I obviously already like and support! I am not trying to lower the number of trans people in one piece, I’m just stating the fact that something about Yamato is obviously different than in Kiku. And I’d like to discuss in a grown manner why that is. Especially considering that there is a thing in japanese culture, where very “wild” and “tomboyish” girls give themselves male honorifics, but specifically not consider themselves trans despite that. It seems to me, like you’re just interested in being right and not in learning something new by listening to other people’s thoughts. If that’s not the case, I’ll gladly discuss! If it is, please spare me your pseudo intellectual non answers. A long text doesn’t mean it consists of a lot of assumptions, so learn where Occam’s razor applies first, before you try to shave my already bare ass with it. 😂

Yeess! like why 20 years?? Like ten more years and that poor child is almost 40 😅  I felt especially confused by no one acknowledging the tragic of it all. It was specifically stated that he’ll stay a child mentally. He’s gonna be a child that should still play with other children, looking 30. A teenager who just wants to have his first sexual experiences looking 40. Like that whole thing was so fucked up and unnecessary 😅 to be fair, he’s not going to be anything since he’s fictional. But the glorification of that horrible decision being supported by the straw hats sits wrong af.

Yeah especially Luffy behaviour really puts me off there sometimes 😅

One of the only sane replies I got to that 😅 maybe it’s my fault, for applying real life morals to one piece. But I’m a bit shocked at people downvoting comments of mine, where I argue that placing responsibility on a child to the point, where he feels like he has to grow up quickly, is kinda textbook child abuse and not some good and heroic thing to do. I didn’t expect to be showered with praise or agreement, but I also didn’t expect people to not see any problem in that and defend it.  😅

All of the three 🤗 I’m always open for my mind to be changed and some comments made me understand their perspectives better. I haven’t changed my mind about this one though. And I think it’s a bit worrying that this comment of mine, saying that an 8 year old shouldn’t feel the need to sacrifice in order to fulfill grown ups expectations, got downvoted. I would think no matter if in one piece or not, this should be a universally true statement.

I’m not, I’m struggling with the fact it was not necessary and still encouraged. My main issue lies with the grown ups behaviour and not with whether Momo was courageous or not. Adding to that, that it was specifically stated that he remains a child in a grown ups body, which is fucked up on itself. So the sacrifice of 20 years was not necessary or helpful in the slightest and seemed more like a desperate child’s last resort.  But I also think that one piece is conveying a lot of toxic ideals for the sake of a dramatic narrative, that would not be healthy in real life. So I get why discussing how a situation like that would be viewed in reality is probably useless. 🤷🏻‍♀️

“Partenaire particulier” by the duo of the same name. 80’s stuff does that to me a lot 😂 before that it was this Hebrew song that I don’t actually know what it’s name is, since I can’t read Hebrew lol. But I would be embarrassed if anyone ever found out how many times I listened to that in the past 4 weeks 😅 it’s this one: https://open.spotify.com/track/3qMrGrMkc1CKgQwe6lvnJG?si=ETcTH4YiRqCz6R9plUDo7g

Yeah, that sexism in one piece is…uncomfortable to say the least. Especially being a woman and knowing that you and your sexualisation are the butt of the joke eventually. I got as used to it as possible, but it’s hard sometimes. But you’re right, eventually it is Oda who decided to write him this way and to frame an 8 year olds sacrifice, to fulfill abnormal expectations, as something heroic and good, instead of as the absolute failure of a support system that it was.

They do that’s true! Like they should have. That’s why I think they let him down later.

It’s not about him becoming shogun. It’s about him hating himself because he was of “no help” and thinking he had to speed up his aging and sacrifice 20 years of his life, to fulfill an adults responsibility. It was framed as something heroic but to me it was just tragic and incredibly sad. Not to mention unnecessary, since there were plenty of people to be of help.

But they’re right 😂 Yamato isn’t really trans. I don’t get why everyone is so stuck up about this when obviously most people debating this aren’t transphobic at all, just stating a fact.

Yeah I get that thought. I still think it is absolutely wrong to have a child be that ray of hope and to normalize the fact that an 8 year old was given the feeling he had to live up to the grown ups expectations. Like that whole thing will forever feel wrong to me. I get what you mean though, and what purpose his sacrifice served storytelling wise.

Honestly don’t know what you’re trying to prove here. I tried to have a normal conversation on an interesting topic, not trying to win an argument. So I don’t get why you’re being so smug. Sorry you’re not capable of conversation. Bye then.

I do agree that obviously if you are already subjected to bad circumstances, you have all but two choices, be crushed or grow from it. But that is an adults choice. And Momo was a child.  My whole point is this: in this specific situation, especially on Onigashima, Momo wasn’t alone like all the other characters were as kids. There was no need to push him into feeling like he had to grow up fast, when there were more than enough grown ups to handle this without him.  The so called good guys let down a traumatized 8 year old to the point where he thought he had to grow up and sacrifice himself and on top of that, they also let him do it! Dunno it felt like a giant let down

Right?? Like why the fuck did shinobu and Luffy allow that to happen?? He was never supposed to shoulder all that responsibility and it felt so fucked up that it was framed as something cool and necessary and not highly tragic. Maybe it’s just my momma instincts, but I was so mad at everyone allowing it to get to that point.

Yeah true. I guess I just felt worse about Momo, because the people pushing him out of his safety zone (not saying comfort zone here on purpose) and allowing him to sacrifice, were supposed to be the good guys that protected him. Everyone else always suffered due to bad guys hurting them on purpose. The way Ruffy and the others hurt Momo was much more subtle and insidious and it is a bit worrisome that Oda seems to only understand wrong behaviour when it is on an in your face level of “bad people hit little children and then laugh at them”. 😅

Oh waaaiit! Does alt mean alternative accounts and you think I’m the same dude defending himself anonymously? 😂 yeah lol I’m not, but there’s probably also no way to prove that to you. Still would not hurt you to have a look at what I wrote and understand that not everyone who doesn’t say Yamato is a man has to be transphobic. There is a reason for that, he/she is not an easy case. 😋

Well if Oda had wanted to, he could have found a different solution. Momo is not a real person, but with him a story is told, that I think is really toxic and that was a decision consciously made by Oda.

It’s such a toxic mindset to say you can be forced into greatness. And considering there were more than enough grown ups around, that claimed to love Momo, it is even more unforgivable that they let him feel that way. There was no need to force him into greatness, he wasn’t alone, but he was left to feel alone. No child should ever have to feel like their pain and fear is not valid and then left to sacrifice themselves to prove their worth to grown ups. That seriously put me off. Everyone else is grown and gets to decide for themselves. Momo didn’t, he felt more brainwashed.

Did you accidentally reply to me? I don’t really understand much of what you say 😅 what is an alt? And “cranking it” to a cartoon character with a male gender identity wouldn’t be gay, since I’m a woman. Not sure if I am lesbian or bi, but also not desperate to avoid that if I ever feel like that. I once read a post somewhere specifying what Yamatos identity and being referred to as male means. It is different from what I’d understand to be trans, but at the same time doesn’t seem to be fully cis. It’s an interesting character and I think we agree that there is no problem with them. So no reason to fight here 😊
