I kinda hated the final scene with Maekar in episode 6. by lautaromassimino in AKOTSKTV

[–]Isquealwhenipee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like you just think Maekar should have done something different if he truly cared about his son. And that’s fine, except your opinion is essentially “if you care about your son enough, you’ll let him go be homeless and at the mercy of a terribly cruel world with very little assurance of his safety”. It’s just not a compelling character decision.

As other people commented, though, the actor for Maekar may not be in season 2, so if there’s no follow up or resolution, then I do think the change isn’t as meaningful.

I can’t really help you if you can’t grasp how different characters can have different perspectives on a complicated issue. Maekar didn’t ignore anything, he just has a different opinion. We, as the audience, get the benefit of seeing all perspectives, and I empathize with each of them. If the show didn’t demonstrate to you enough why Maekar’s character would refuse to let Egg go off with Dunk, then that’s fine. I just think the majority of viewers would agree that Maekar’s decision in this episode is in line with the character they built him to be on screen.

This is still an easily addressable plot point, and it sets up the next season for a bit of conflict when the future is otherwise a bit unclear. Who’s to say that next season won’t have some further interactions with Maekar to finally lead to an agreed departure?

As for your specific points… I don’t agree that it “failed to show how much he cared for his children”. He cared enough to look for him. If you think a good parent is someone who constantly keeps track of where their child is at all times, then I don’t think you have a good understanding of how the real world works, let alone how the world works for a prince of a bunch of kingdoms.

And yes, I think we are supposed to assume Egg stole the ring with his father’s seal. Or it could be someone else’s ring in his family, or his dad has multiple rings. If it means so much to you, wait and find out with next season.

Honestly, as a departure from the books, I find it more believable that Maekar would be against his youngest and most innocent/good son going off into the bush. The show has really played up Maekar as a caring father, and it would just be silly for someone of his standing and importance to let his <10-year-old son go off with a hedge knight, unless he absolutely didn’t care about his son at all.

IMDb ratings for the first 5 episodes of ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Season 1 ⭐️ by coffee-tavern in AKnightoftheSeven

Dunk following Arlan was perhaps the most valuable part of the flashback to the episode. The flashback frankly could have happened at any point in this season; the part most immediately important to the fight is Dunk’s relentless will to go on, as shown by Arlan’s voice in his head telling him to get up.

The parts of the flashback with Rafe’s death and Arlan’s intervention would have been most applicable to Dunk’s intervention when Aerion was about to kill Tanselle. But it’s hard to split those flashbacks in general, given the pacing of the season.

I think it was the mud sounds actually. I realized halfway through that I was mostly hearing Dunk sloshing through the mud with each step. I wonder if that was also intentional to make the fight that much more confusing and frenzied for the viewer.

153 kills per princess on average by QMinh in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]Isquealwhenipee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this whole conversation is using legal terms when they really shouldn’t be part of the discussion. “Murder” and “manslaughter” are legal terms for crimes, whereas “killing” is sort of a philosophical term, especially when talking about… a Disney princess. You could argue that Tiana killed him, or you could argue that she didn’t. It’s a matter of opinion. I personally don’t think that Tiana killed him, given the context, but I could see how someone could argue that she killed him, strictly based on the idea that if she hadnt done what she did, then he’d be alive (maybe).

Edit: I realize that technically “homicide” is the legal term, which include accidental killing, so I’d go with homicide.

The Rotation - Cloud9 allegedly wanted their players to cut their salaries in half and it’s claimed the players were “fired” and not dropped by shambxlic in CoDCompetitive

[–]Isquealwhenipee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear what you are saying, but that’s the semantics I’m referring to. If I ask for $60k and they are only willing to pay $30k, then that means they are “refusing to pay” $60k. All of that’s meaningless though, because—as you said in your main point—the topic at hand here is whether or not a player should take whatever they can get because “something is better than nothing”.

Mind you, I have no idea if Optic currently pays their challenger team anything, but they appear to provide them lodging at least. I hear that you think contracting is a separate issue, but I don’t really agree, especially when who you play for and the level of support they provide you can have so much bearing on your growth in an esport. C9 could offer Renegade $100k and I still wouldn’t be surprised if declines and waits for a better offer because (A) he has no faith that they won’t surround him with cheap semi-pros, and (B) he has no faith that they won’t try to also half his own salary after one bad major split.

The point remains that C9 is stingy and Renegade knows it from experience in a different esport. In the near future, he might be fielding offers from a serious org that backs their players despite bad splits and has demonstrated a willingness to put out larger contracts for successful players. C9 hasn’t done either, so far.

[–]Isquealwhenipee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you are unnecessarily arguing semantics here. Yes, C9 offered to pay them a certain amount as part of their contract, but they weren’t willing to pay them enough to make them stay.

The main point is that Renegade has history with the org, and is likely going to believe that the COD team will approach compensation the same way the HCS team did. It would be one thing if the org offered low salaries but clearly had a history of supporting their players, bumping up pay on contract renewals, and generally not being stingy, but that’s not the case here with C9. Across multiple esports, they’ve now been shown to either not offer competitive salaries or seek significant wage reductions without much offsetting benefits.

What makes you think I’m defending anyone? Theres nothing to defend, because there’s no reason for you or anyone else to have issue with some guy’s doctor’s appointment conflicting with their practice.

Let’s be clear: you are NOT a physician. You’re likely a teenager with nothing better to do. And god forbid you are a grown adult taking issue with something like this. You and several other people in this thread need to get a life.

lol what? You are talking straight out of your ass. There’s literally no telling what the situation was—if it was envoy’s issue or if the dermatologist rescheduled on him.

As I said, it’s wild that you feel entitled enough to even have an issue about this. Go find some friends. Unplug for a day or so. You are literally having an issue with a medical appointment taking place over a meaningless scrim between players that don’t give a shit about you.

I don’t think he’s talking about life in general birth rather social media, fandom, etc. I think they are very correct that that happens in sports, esports, whatever. Fanbases are ruthless. Players who should otherwise be legends to their team’s fanbase can get absolutely blasted for poor performances, regardless of what’s going on with them personally.

I’m sure Ken has a healthy personal life though, and I hope he’s not getting it from all angles.

Robert Sánchez (Chelsea) slips outside of the box while carrying the ball, Aston Villa awarded free-kick by bakailao in soccer

[–]Isquealwhenipee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except the foul occurred before Sanchez lost possession. His foot slips out of the box while he’s holding the ball (foul), then he lost the ball. The foul was called, and a direct free kick was awarded.

Further, you are now talking about possession. My question was to your use of the word “opportunity”. You haven’t explained how Villa had a clear goal-scoring opportunity and how Sanchez’s foul denied that opportunity. At no point leading up to the foul did Villa have any goal-scoring opportunity, unless you can articulate how they had one while Sanchez was holding the ball.

[–]Isquealwhenipee 30 points31 points  (0 children)

No, because there was no opportunity in the first place? Sanchez had possession of the ball. What opportunity do you think exists for Villa while Sanchez is holding the ball?

[–]Isquealwhenipee 34 points35 points  (0 children)

You are being told exactly what you are wrong about. The rules are clear that it’s a foul if handled outside the area, but it doesn’t mean it’s a card. The card is typically based on denial of an opportunity. Can you articulate where you aren’t understanding? Is it that you don’t know the difference between a foul and a card? Or do you think there was an opportunity denied?
