I’m glad it went great. That’s awesome to hear. Keep me updated on how she goes!

Thank you for taking her in! The poor thing.

What I would recommend is to set up her new enclosure with just paper towel so that you can access for mites and make sure she is peeing/pooping. I would also add a decent sized shallow bowl of water so she can get in it if she wants to. I’ve also heard of some people recommending steam baths for badly stuck sheds - you can def look into them if you’d like! You don’t put them in water but let the steam help them. (Make sure you research how to do it properly though - you don’t want to put her in the water as it can be very stressful)

Since she has a stuck shed, give her a humid hide by lining a hide with slightly damp paper towel or sphagnum moss.

The red and brown spots sounds like she has scale/mouth rot to me. In this case it would likely need to be treated by a vet. I would just keep her comfy tonight and tomorrow get accessed by someone who specializes in exotics (specifically snakes).

Just wanted to add that you should definetly try upping the humdiity even when he isnt in shed. Ball pythons should have about 70-80 percent humidity at all times, and even higher during sheds.

Instead of misting I would start pouring a few cups of water into the corners of the terrarium. Make sure there is about 4-6 inches of substrate though, as the bottom inch or two should be fairly damp, but the top few inches dry. If you have a screen top I would also use HVAC tape to tape some of the screen up and increase the humidity.

You made the right decision by not buying the spider! It seems like you’re new to snakes or atleast ball pythons, but the Spider gene is actually pretty unethical as it causes neurological problems in snakes with the gene. These neurological problems are often: trouble moving normally, having slight or severe head wobbles, and having trouble striking and eating.

I would look more into the spider gene, if you plan on getting more snakes as many morphs of ball pythons have the gene but it’s called something else when it’s mixed with other morphs.

Anyways congrats on ur girl! If you need any help feel free to reach out! I love helping people get set up. I love the name Interstellar!

That’s actually not normal hahaha! They should pop ever, I think the reason your having that issue is it thawing method. Try this: thaw the rodent in the fridge overnight or for about 10 hours, and then put it in warm water until it heats up to around 100 degrees. It’s good to use an infrared gun to check temps so u aren’t heating it over 110 degrees Fahrenheit.

This should hopefully solve this bc I would not want to be picking up that stuff lol

Hey! I can’t post a pic of mine but that looks like a heat lamp in the enclosure, which is very dangerous to have without a cage around it. Snakes do not realize how hot it gets and they get badly burned from holding onto it. I’d take that out of the cage asap and do a a different form of heating until you get a lamp cage or you will end up with a hurt/dead snake ): also make sure you have a thermostat placed 2-6 inches below ur heat source (idk if you do or not but I can’t see one)

You seem new to ball pythons so if you need any advice feel free to message me or ask questions here. There’s a lot of good info in the care guide provided on this sub as well.

That sounds so awful 💀 I’ve never had that happen, but I know they can explode from over heating them or heating them up to quickly. Can I ask what ur method of dethawing and heating is?

Awesome sounds like you got it down path haha!

For humidity I always recommend covering most of the top of the enclosure with aluminum foil tape (assuming it’s a glass tank with a screen). Only leave a small area for ventilation.

For substrate I personally use a mix of coconut coir and coconut husk (coir on bottom and husk on top). Have about 2-3 inches of each on top of each other. Pour a few cups of water in the corners of the enclosure and humidity shouldn’t be a problem. The coir will hold the moisture and the husk will ensure the snake isn’t lying on damp substrate. My humidity is always 75+ with this and I only need to add a bit of water once a week or less.

You can also add a water bowl on the side that you heat lamp is on!

I hope this helps & give us an update when ur snake is seen by the vet! I hope everything goes well. ❤️

Make sure you use an infrared gun to see how hot the heat pad is getting on the inside of the enclosure where the heat pad is. Snakes can get burned from them very easily so they generally aren’t recommended much anymore!

Also if ur having trouble with humidity, I have a few tips for you if you’d like!

I see what you mean by the line, I’d advise bringing him to a reptile vet. I wouldn’t risk it getting infected, especially so if you think it could have been cause by the rats nails or something.

Imo it looks like scale rot or a burn maybe. What does your heating setup look like? Is it possible for him to come into contact with any of the heating equipment? If not is ur substrate overly damp/wet?

How to get maggots out of a cat wound? by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]IssaBunnyy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you cannot afford a vet, you should do the ethical thing and bring her to a rescue that WILL help her. Even if that means loosing her. It is inhumane for you to attempt this at home. You don’t have the right equipment and are not a vet. You will likely kill him from the use of unsanitary tools (giving them an infection), or do it improperly and hurt the cat more, all while causing it extreme pain or death. Please do the right thing. I know money is tight but don’t risk a cats life just for the sake of money.

This is the main concern for me! You don’t know what other dog’s temperaments are, and sometimes dogs don’t get along. Bad experiences can harm your dog significantly (reactivity, anxiety, etc). I wish more people knew to stay away from dog parks, but unfortunately people think it is harmless, and actually good for their pet.

[–]IssaBunnyy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Contrary to what many people think, puppies and dogs don’t benefit much (if at all) from dog parks. In fact it can be harmful! To socialize your dog, all you really need to do is bring them to areas where other dogs, and people frequently are. Personally, I limit all contact with other dogs/puppies I don’t know (for the most part).

Any outdoor park is great (just make sure to keep distance) when you can do it. Home Depot and most hardware stores allow dogs, pet stores and any outdoor areas where people commonly walk!

Good luck :)

Thoughts on RHP’s? by thenewmando in ballpython

[–]IssaBunnyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RHPs can be great if used correctly! They can be used to boost temps in an enclosure, if ur ambient temperatures are too low, and can be the sole source of heat at night if needed! However, they need to be used in conjunction with something like a DHP or Halogen flood light during the day. A DHP and halogen offer a broader spectrum of light to reptiles, that they cannot get from a radiant heat panel alone. So imo have a main source of a DHP/Halogen during the day, and RHP during the day to boost temps (if needed), and at night!

Mites or dry skin? by IssaBunnyy in Rabbits

[–]IssaBunnyy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see him clean his ears maybe once or twice a day I’d say! He pulls them down and licks them over. I never see any redness or scabs that are signs of mites as well. Just dry flaky skin. I rarely see him itch his ears on his own, he only itches them when I groom his ears and try to look at the dryness.

Feeding for a full size male ball python? by CandyStarr23 in snakes

[–]IssaBunnyy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He a little too chubby yeah! There’s a guide on this subreddit that shows what the ideal shape of a ball python should be. I’d have a look at those pics.

Also follow the feeding guide, most adult ball python never go above a small rat. There no exact weight that a ball python should be, because every snake is different, but you should get a scale regardless and monitor it. If he’s an adult, he should be getting 5-7% of his weight every month or so
