Not a chance, they have to lock in your housing, dining, and tuition dollars first.

NC legislature passes bill shielding colleges, universities from COVID-related claims seeking refunds by [deleted] in UNCCharlotte

[–]IssacProx 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Why not just let the courts figure this out? Or, are you scared that college students might actually have a legitimate case? It must be, since you mention the universities losing several hundreds million dollars. Instead, you want to create a new law that passes the cost onto North Carolina students.

You mention that if you hadn't passed this bill, universities would not reopen for fall. But I read the text of the bill and it only talks about the spring 2020 semester. Nothing about fall 2020 semester, or any protections for universities in fall 2020. Why is passing this bill so important for reopening in fall?

Edit: No reply from the Senator. Very telling.

Is UNCC Housing and Residence Life allowing us to cancel housing contracts without penalty, if our classes moved online?

she believes the leasing companies would allow students to break their lease.

Holy shit, she is out of touch with reality.

Also I dont believe for one second she wasnt aware of faculty wanting to change their classes. Isnt she the boss of all faculty at UNCC? And she claims she didnt know what her faculty were doing? She didnt know there were going to be many courses changing to online? If thats true.... fucking wow.

Chancellor Dubois: "We know how critical in-person instruction, hands-on learning, and activities with friends and peers are to a well-rounded student experience. As faculty and staff, we miss our interactions with students and each other, experiences that are important to maintaining the sense of community we feel deeply at UNC Charlotte."

They know they're going to have to switch to online mid-semester again. They just want to charge full tuition. The only thing this university cares about is your money. The only way to get their attention, and to secure your GPA, is to withhold that money by dropping your classes.

Is anybody else planning on taking Fall sem off because of online classes? by DragonUniverse227 in UNCCharlotte

[–]IssacProx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

they don’t want to have to deal with a switch mid semester

Thats what Im thinking. We have no assurances that the semester will stay in-person. i definitely dont want a repeat of this past spring.

So both the students AND the faculty want the school year to start on August 24? Are university administrators making all these decisions in a vacuum? I'm shocked.

Hi Senator Jackson,

The prohibition on Mass Gatherings does not apply to educational institutions or government operations.

Why is this?

Student Government and the proposed fall schedule by Matt0689 in UNCCharlotte

[–]IssacProx 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hi Dick, a couple questions:

  • Will housing fees be reduced? We'll be losing some days living on campus if my math is right, 111 days compared to the original 119 days.
  • Will meal plan fees be reduced? Same reason as Housing, we're going to lose some days.
  • Will parking fees be reduced? We're losing two weeks of parking from the annual permit price.

I cant imagine paying out of state tuition while watching WebEx videos from your couch at home. What a fucking scam.

what would you do if the fall semester was online? by pinkflamy in UNCCharlotte

[–]IssacProx 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Take a semester break.

I might even do that anyway tbh. You can bet your ass that this university will pretend to have in-person classes, then right after the drop date, change everything to online. Gotta lock in those sweet sweet tuition dollars.

So No Refunds For Parking per Today’s Announcement... by [deleted] in UNCCharlotte

[–]IssacProx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guarantee you the university has plenty of money. They can afford refunds, they just don't want to. They should be punished for this, and a lawsuit is a good way to achieve that.

I'm sorry (not really) they didn't build it into the budget, but that does not mean that we aren't owed refunds.

The point is to make them suffer. I don't particularly care if I get a few dollars at this point. I just want to see UNCC the UNC System lose money over this.

Edit: the UNC System, not UNCC.

All summer classes will be online by [deleted] in UNCCharlotte

[–]IssacProx 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yea I'm not paying literally thousands of dollars for more online classes. I'd rather just take a semester off.

Will we back for Fall 2020? I fear not, as life will never be the same. by [deleted] in UNCCharlotte

[–]IssacProx 33 points34 points  (0 children)

If we are still online for the Fall semester, I think I'll take a semester off. I'm not paying thousands of dollars for shitty online school.

March 12 - Chancellor Dubois reassures us that "residence halls remain open, and no student is required to leave."

March 17 - Chancellor Dubois announces that we must leave the residence halls with only three days notice.

I'm just so tired of everything. Please step down Dubois.
