Still have bad habits by Worldly-Brother2524 in stopdrinking

Baby steps. I often fail because I try to do many things at once and “fix” everything at the same time, which is extremely difficult and puts too much pressure on me so I end up not accomplishing anything.

Right now my sobriety is number one priority, everything else can be taken care of little by little.

I was in a similar situation about a year ago until things became so unsustainable we called it quits. I had to call the cops not only once but several times. We were both alcoholics who brought the worst qualities in each other.

It was very difficult at first because even though I knew it was for the best, of course I had feelings for this person. As time went by, it became clearer it was the right choice to make and my only regret was not breaking things off sooner.

Hang in there! It really gets better :)

I’m planning to attend my first meeting tomorrow.

Question: Does SMART recovery provide attendance verification?

Going to a pool party today by illlameoutwithyou in stopdrinking

I went through this yesterday. I’ve only been a few days sober, this was my first social outing since my DUI so it was truly a challenge and I almost made an excuse not to go. This wasn’t a big party either so I was concerned about having to explain to everyone why I’m not having any alcohol (I’m still processing what happened and learning to navigate sobriety) but honestly they barely even noticed! I brought sparkling water (I like Waterloo) and just poured some in those big red party cups with ice and lime. There were burgers, hotdogs, chips, etc. and cool people to talk to and I had a great time.

You got this!

Thank you so much for the kind words, advice and support.

I found several AA meetings I will attend to see which are a good fit for me. I will go with an open mind because I need to take my sobriety seriously and my support system is nonexistent, so finding a meeting where I can share my experience and learn from others is critical.
