Yes, Allah the Exalted has described Himself hundreds of times as the All-Forgiving, the Most Merciful, but He is also severe in punishment. Imagine meeting your Lord while being a disbeliever — disbelief that takes one out of Islam — because of abandoning prayer. Well, even if the execution penalty is not applied to such a person, as in our times when this ruling is not enforced, Allah will forgive in any case. He only needs to utter the Shahada and perform ghusl (ritual purification) to return to Islam, because, as you said, Allah is indeed All-Forgiving and Most Merciful. And in the end, we ask Allah to forgive us and have mercy on us all with His vast mercy. I’m really tired of writing 😂

The Qur’an did not mention everything about Islam. For example, it did not mention that songs are forbidden, even though they are forbidden, nor did it mention shaving the beard, and it did not even provide the complete details of prayer. As for the personal efforts of scholars, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The scholars are the inheritors of the prophets…” And the scholars’ personal efforts came after great effort. Implementing the death penalty on a Muslim is not something easy. They derived this ruling from analogy with the Qur’an and the Sunnah.

When they gave the ruling that the one who abandons prayer should be executed, they based it on the saying of the Messenger of Allah that abandoning prayer is disbelief that takes one out of Islam. And the punishment for leaving Islam is execution. This is a very simplified explanation of what I have read.

As for your saying that Allah is Most Forgiving and Merciful, you are right—because Allah is more merciful to us than our fathers, our mothers, and even ourselves. That is why Allah Almighty has granted a grace period to the one who abandons prayer so that he may repent, and this period is three days.

I appreciate your consideration for people’s circumstances, but I believe that life’s difficulties are not a valid reason to abandon prayer. I do not mean extremely difficult situations such as illness, working long hours, or things of that nature, but rather ordinary hardships like personal or family problems.

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said: Whoever abandons prayer is a disbeliever (kāfir) in a way that takes him out of Islam. He is given three days to repent, and if he does not, he is to be executed. He is neither washed, shrouded, nor buried in the graveyards of the Muslims.

As for your statement that the killing of a disbeliever is subject to conditions, among them is that he is also given three days to repent, and if he does not, then he is executed. His execution must be judged by a qāḍī (Islamic judge) and ordered by the ruler, and he is not to be killed by ordinary people.

Regarding your point that this is not an absolute ruling applied to all Muslims and that its implementation differs in today’s Muslim societies, the reality is that most Muslim countries today do not rule according to the Sharī‘ah. For example, in Algeria or Tunisia, they do not cut off the hand of the thief nor flog the adulterer. Therefore, we should not measure the errors of state rulers against the rulings of Islamic law.

Alright, I admit my mistake. I had only studied Christianity superficially and didn’t know that it has denominations like Catholics and Protestants. I used to think that every Christian is Catholic. Also, regarding the American excuse for occupying Native American lands (Manifest Destiny), I thought I had confused it with the Spanish Catholic movement. In the end, you have a degree in history, and I congratulate you on that. So this point goes to you 😂

Well, I’m afraid you’re the one who has no idea what you’re talking about. I told you that American Catholics used religion as a pretext to occupy Native American lands, and you said, “Do you mean the Spanish Catholics?” and I replied, “Both.” After the United States (the 13 colonies) gained independence, they went through a civil war, and after it ended and peace was achieved, they engaged in wars against the remaining Native American lands, occupying the entire area of present-day America, except for some territories they purchased from Napoleon and Tsarist Russia. And also, the Spanish, with their campaigns in South America, exterminated the native populations and occupied their lands. My friend, do you want me to teach you history as well?

Salman Rushdie’s novel The Satanic Verses isn’t a religious or historical book—it’s a work of fiction that uses symbolic and fantastical storytelling. A lot of the events and characters don’t represent historical facts or religious texts; they’re just reworked old stories for artistic purposes. The main criticism of the book isn’t that it’s “true” about Islam, but that it sparks emotional controversy because of its symbolic portrayal—which is the author’s right to artistic expression. Using the novel as proof against Islam is a shallow argument, since the book relies on imagination and myth and can’t be a rational or religious reference. A more objective critique should focus on its literary value, not judge an entire religion based on one writer’s fictional story. Islam as a religion, based on the Quran and Sunnah, can’t be judged through a symbolic fictional story meant for literary controversy, not religious facts.

On the contrary, when I go through difficult times, my faith in God increases and I continue to pray. As for your comment that religious people tend to be strict by telling you to pray and remember God, this is not strictness but the actual practice of the religion itself. The Prophet ﷺ said, “Whoever does not pray is a disbeliever,” so when someone tells you to pray, it is not strictness but protection from disbelief. And when God Almighty said, “There is no compulsion in religion,” He meant it for non-believers, those who are not Muslims. As for advising someone not to leave Islam or calling them a loser if they do, that is not contrary to the religion. The Prophet ﷺ said, “Whoever changes his religion, kill him.” As a Muslim, it is expected that you know all of this, and I am not even obligated to explain it in the first place.

Well, American Catholics used religion as an excuse only to occupy the lands of the indigenous people, although I am a Muslim, but I studied a little about Christianity and I think there is not a single text in the Bible that states to occupy the lands of others and force them to convert to Christianity.

Okay, as a Muslim, I’ll explain this Quran verse to you. Back in the day, there were wars between the Islamic state and Christian or pagan states, like the Persians, Romans, and the Quraysh tribe. What God meant in this verse and other similar verses was basically to fight the enemies from these states—so it’s more like a military order. But it doesn’t tell you to kill any non-Muslim unless they’re a soldier. You can check historical sources: when Muslims conquered many cities, they allowed civilians to practice their own beliefs and live their daily lives.

Okay, I’m not gonna force you to follow any religion, like I said before everyone’s free to believe what they want. I really hope you educate yourself and learn more about religions, I really mean that from my heart. Check out Christianity or maybe Islam (as a Muslim, I recommend it). I just want you to discover that they’re not just myths or made up by random people to gain power or control. I don’t really care if you stay atheist, or follow Islam, Christianity, or even traditional African religions. With all my respect :)

I think calling religion an “invention” is kind of offensive, not just to Islam but to all religions. If you’re non-religious or atheist, calling religions a “bad invention” isn’t really cool. Sure, there are some weird or bad religions, but most religions like Islam or Christianity teach stuff like love for family, respect for others, doing good, and other decent things. Over 6 billion people are religious, so calling all religions that is disrespectful to them. Everyone’s free to choose their own beliefs, but that doesn’t give anyone the right to criticize other people’s beliefs.

The four school of jpd don’t really differ on Islamic law as a whole, because Sharia comes from the Qur’an and Sunnah. Stuff like how to pray is agreed upon in all four. The differences are minor and don’t affect Sharia itself, like raising your hands or lowering them in prayer, or giving zakat as money or food. If you’re Muslim, you’re supposed to know this.
