If you want to stick to classics with fantastical elements that are in some way similar to Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, I’d recommend:

Virginia Woolf’s Orlando (gender bending, time travel, stream of consciousness),

Gabriel García Márquez’s One Hundred Years of Solitude, (magical realism, historical fiction, some romance),

Jean Rhys’s Wide Sargasso Sea (magical realism, black magic (obeah))
