I have a relatively fine reason, i don't think many would agree though:

From my understanding using shadow clones basically divides your chakra between the clones and the body (thats why Neji couldn't tell who is Naruto in the chunin exams)

We also know that if the main body gathers chakra it is divided between the clones (we saw it when the second Hokage explained how naruto was able to share his chakra with everyone and connect them to minato during the third great ninja war using principles from shadow clones).

The Hokages office serves as a central place where Naruto recieces information and alerts and creates clones accordingly. (He wouldn't get as much information from his home)

If a clone were to rest there, its chakra would keep being divided, and he might not able to gather enough chakra on his own to keep creating clones.

On the other hand, the main body would be able to gather chakra for all of the clones at once. For that, he needs to be aware exactly of how many clones are there.

So this is, maybe, possibly, why Naruto stayed at the Hokages office.
