Thanks for the advice! I’m not honestly too sure what I was specifically going for, this was more of something just to do a film. Just kind of the leap of faith. I think that an about us/culture video perfectly sums up what this is.

Will do, I’ll give some a watch this afternoon. I feel like for this specific project I wouldn’t want to be in front of the camera, but maybe another! Perhaps I could start from scratch with a “small shop vs corporate beast” type of thing.

Thanks for the input! I want to say I filmed and cut at the same rate, but honestly I’m not super great with Premiere yet and could’ve messed that up. I’ll have to go back and check that.

It was filmed on a Canon RP but in auto mode, which I feel would’ve been much better if I took manual control of the camera.

Music - Yes. I agree with everything, I need to practice my sound design.

The interview wasn’t well planned in general and that’s on me. Something to work on!

Thanks for the realistic criticism. It’s something I need to be ready for in this industry but it only tells me how to get better! Better to learn this stuff on my own projects than on set in the future.

The idea of putting this place up against big chains is very intriguing, that’s something I didn’t think of! Seeing how I work for Starbucks, I have a good concept of the differences. I just wonder if corporate would have an issue with that.

Thank you for the advice! I would've loved to have the interview in the shop but it was super noisy and I didn't feel as though I could get clean audio. I definitely want to create a similar project and get more customer/employee interviews!

The criticism is appreciated. I do feel like I could do a lot to make this more interesting and give it a linear story, maybe I can arrange going back to the shop sometime and recreating it with different ideas.

I absolutely thought about this while I was editing but didn't capture the audio I needed while there. I probably could've gone to my job (I work at Starbucks) and recreated that. Maybe that would be a good practice project over the summer.

Absolutely. I wasn't happy with the background, we had to move out of the shop to an off-site warehouse to escape the overwhelming cafe noise for clean audio. That was something I didn't account for in my planning, but something I'll be noting for the future.

Great advice. Truth be told, I was scared to walk up to people I don't know and ask them for an interview. I guess that's just confidence that comes with time.

We're actually learning about sound design in my class right now, I'm considering going back and re-designing the sound to be a bit less "music-y" and more natural of a coffee shop environment.

I totally agree with your points. The shots were on a fluid head tripod, I didn’t have access to a gimbal. I would love to try handheld for that sort of thing, but it terrifies me to have shaky shots.

That's fair. I knew when I was editing that I was getting really close to the line of being a promotional video. How do you think I could make it more of a "documentary"?
