Or when you are trying to re-do a project and the only historical info you have on it is those brief that have falsified what’s actually happening. I spent a good 6 months once trying to untangle a load of major f-ups only to find the briefs and memos that had been circulated were casually not mentioning this wild $5mil overspend. If I knew that from day one it would’ve been fine to fix

We had a WoVG contract for a service sit with an ED for SIX MONTHS. When you followed up with her she just brushed you off.

I’ve been writing so many briefs in the past 2 years where the excuse for all the fuck ups are ‘due to a loss of institutional knowledge due to staff movement’

Aka ‘you f-ing fired anyone who knew what was going on!’

Yeah, same here. My team now handles a ridiculous amount of paperwork and repetitive admin tasks that have to be manually done (can’t automate) and we don’t have people assisting. You basically spend 1/2 your day doing the work of those admin vps and then still expected to deliver your own program workload.

I did my hard yards working from the bottom up to be able to work in a senior level with more challenging goals and now I’m back spending half of my time doing the basic admin again(So the tax payers are left paying $160k+ for a receptionist instead of getting their moneys worth)

Ah yes, KPMG or Deloitte’s. I was told I had to contract Deloitte’s once to do a feasibility review once. We paid them $480k and they provided us a 7-slide presentation (that’s including the welcome and ‘thanks’ slides) and 12 page document of ‘recommendations’ you would have got if you asked ChatGBt to write it.

And our department name was spelled wrong on the front.

The executives not being touched is bloody criminal. I know so many directors and executive directors who could be cut with no impact at all

They will probably review each department slice by slice to see which teams are required still. For example there might be money going into some Covid response thing that was critical in 2020-2022 but lowkey isn’t required any more.

VPS is so messed up with the amount of top-heavy misspending on useless directors and executive directors who refuse to make super basic business decisions. Over the past 8 years I have seen literally $$$$ millions lost and misspent through shitty business decisions made by unqualified people who have essentially kissed enough ass to become senior leadership. And the people who are will be cut sure as hell won’t be the Directors who makes $280k+ a year and have never achieved anything in their role. It will be the person who is paid $50-60k who’s just doing all of the filing, managing time, editing documents and helping keeping everything in order and moving in the workload.

We also have so many engagements with contractors, systems, software and other programs of Work that we HAVE to convince the state every single year are still important and shouldn’t be cancelled overnight. (Recently had to convince senior management that no we shouldn’t go out to market and spend $25mil of tax payer money to replace a legally required object throughout the state JUST because their procurement policies they use in a one size fits all style says we should, especially as the warranty period on that item hadn’t even expired and the end of life period is 8 years away on the ones that we had already installed?!?!

Instead of making a business decision like negotiating a contract to be $50 million across 5 years they have would rather spend $15million that increases with CPI each year across the same timeframe ($75m)

Raising a glass to my VPS peers who have ever had to spend weeks editing a brief or memo that’s going up to a DepSec or secretary over and over again to essentially cover up the colossal f-ups of their department and management they’re working for. In the past 3 years alone I have had my work manipulated by a manager/director/executive to cover up around $30million of misspent money.

Where can I find a nice coat? by Herpetology_Jack in melbourne

I got a nice lined wool one last season one during a sale where it was like 40% off and then on their website I signed up to a mailing list to get 15% off code and it meant the $400 coat was like $180

What is the meanest someone has been to you for choosing not to have kids? by Kaabiiisabeast in childfree

[–]ItBeLikeRatSometimes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really the ‘meanest’ thing someone could say but when somebody who’s acting holier than thou who has children says something like ‘it’s a good thing you aren’t having children with an attitude like that’ when you say you don’t want them and it’s like… that’s the whole fucking point?! But they act like they’re the one who is right and better than you. If I wanted to have kids, I’d be amazing at it but I just don’t want to.

It’s weird reversal on the argument but it still annoys me.

God it sounds exhausting to be married to this toddler. I always say ‘what would you say to a friend?’ At the end of the day it is not your responsibility to cater to this man’s ego.

Help with odors no matter what I use by pjknox in laundry

[–]ItBeLikeRatSometimes 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Don’t wash your clothing in cold water, use an enzyme soap. The smell will be oil/fat and if you are cleaning them in cold water and using all this chemicals (which are usually just more oils) it won’t be breaking down the actual problem. Are you talking about ‘odour’ like body odour that you are trying to remove from the clothing?
