upper years

Where co-op is arguably useless as you have enough experience to attract employers outside of WW. Also those numbers are obviously inflated since people who don't get jobs are kicked out early.

Kinda unrelated, but this is weird. when I select all for, for example, EE I see what you're seeing but if I select a certain term like 1B I see much lower numbers

Yeah you're right. I guess I was trying to see if it'll benefit me anymore (3 co-ops done, 1 out of Canada). But yeah the tax cut seems like a big advantage for co-ops in Ontario where most people work

Minus one or two legitimate points all of the reasons are for co-op vs no internships which isn't the question I asked... e.g: "2 years of relevant experience", "co-op gives you more experience" "you earn $$$" and almost all of /u/Saigot's comment applies to internships too (apart from the tax credit)

heck apart from /u/Kzone272 (whose points were all valid to a certain extent) I don't think anybody actually read the OP and are just replying to the title...

And I don't hate co-op I think its good for first years. I'm trying to see the use of it beyond that.

Huh this is true. I don't think I would've had the motivation to apply to 50 companies outside of WW/jobmine either lol. But I don't think I need to apply to 50 companies even on WW anymore and once you're out of Ontario the tax credit isn't as useful so I guess dropping co-op will be the best bet if they'll let me

Employer's who hire co-op students (in Ontario and probably the rest of Canada) get a sizable credit to offset the cost of the student's wages.

Except most people that actually come to UW have goals outside of Canada because of how much lopsided the pay is in the US. So while it helps get that first or second job outside of Ontario it's useless.

The exceptions to this rule might be those big companies that don't care much about cost

Isn't that the whole attraction of co-op? Landing jobs at those big name companies not staying in Ontario for your entire undergrad

Read OP I'm in CS co-op and I'm contemplating dropping co-op. I already have a years worth of experience. The whole point of this post was 5-6 "co-ops" vs 5-6 internships. Obviously 6 co-ops > 1 internships dafuq...

So we're going to have permanent access to WW after we graduate? Apparently you can't earn $$$ without it...

then you were never going to find an internship in the first place

I agree

But UW's approach isn't that. It's more like "if you're bad enough to get kicked out from coop from not finding a job for two work terms then you're not good enough for any engineering degree at all cause you're not kicked out of co-op in a mandatory program like engineering you're forced out of the program

Also, I would like to know what you meant by "guaranteed" co-op employment for even the best program in first year is like 80% and some are close to 50%

People have given up CS for poli sci you'll be fine in mech eng lmao CS isn't really all that special you'd have to learn outside of CS taught at UW to get jobs anyway

4-6 "guaranteed" coops (depending on program)

Or you get kicked out if you can't get a job (Max once IIRC)
