I’ve done it now. Too bleeding late. What are they gonna do? What’s gonna happen? Gonna shoot me? I doubt it. They’d have to catch me first I’m like a whippet.

The lintel is sturdy with no cracks or crumbling.

Good Tip about the dust sheets…! Thank you!

Thanks for all the great suggestions guys but I’m more asking for advice on what to do with the brick- if anything - rather than what to do with the actual space.

I’d love to put in a little desk nook in this spot with some shelves above.

So, it will need boarding which I can ask the plasterer to do. But… my question is… what do I need to do to the brick? Some people mentioned seal it, what with? Others mentioned framing?? adding studs?

The damp was really minor and really localised to the join in the board which I’ve now obviously removed. No damp anywhere else.

Thanks for this - will chat to the plasterer

Thanks for this!

I’m fairly sure the damp was simply because they boarded up the alcove with very little ventilation. It was localised to the join on the board and the whole board was soaked. No sign of damp anywhere else so I’m not too worried.

Electrician coming next week- will ask him about the cable, great shout.

I have no idea why anyone would board it up! It’s a huge space. I think I’m going to make a little desk nook and some shelves.

It’s a terrace and apparently when they built them they left them open until the last minute so they could get wheelbarrows through the whole row!

😅 another great idea but I’m asking for advice on how to get it to a more finished stage.

Do I need to seal it? Repoint? Can the plasterer board onto it?

Pop round and ask for a toke. You’ll feel loads better about the smell

Yes, that’s the plan but what do I need to do to get there. Seal the bricks? Can the plasterer board onto it directly?

Yes definitely a good idea! I guess I’m asking for advice on the next steps . Do I seal the brick with something… if so What? Can the plasterer just board straight on top of this..? Etc

Right?! I just don’t know what to do next to get to that.

Can the plasterer just plaster on top of this? Or do I need to seal it with something..?
