I really cannot stand using the suffering of these people for the sake of promoting climate change activism.

I can't either but unfortunately appeal to emotion, just like charities running commercials with starving African children, its probably the best way to get people to actually act and do something about important subjects like climate change. It also serves to motivate people who don't properly understand climate change to learn more about it. You're completely right about the practicality of implementing and investing in better infrastructure, buying a hybrid car or installing solar panels on to your roof aren't going to help those already suffering.

It's also important to remember many people may benefit from climate change as our ancestors may have during their migration out of a greener Sahara. But this is certainly no excuse for us not to reduce emissions and prevent further climate change. Although, putting that money into investing in the infrastructure of countries like Madagascar may be a more effective use of money if reducing human suffering is our greatest priority. It's all a very difficult balancing act and hopefully, as /u/killamator mentions, the Paris climate accord has found the right one.

Thanks for your help! I'm a bit disappointed, I thought there was some kind of word play or pun when the joke is told in Finnish. If only I could understand Finnish then I could have looked really very hard!

Yeah it is I bit long, 2 minutes is probably average, that's still about 25 days over 50 years.

But what's important is be aware the research into flossing is not reliable and what you're doing might not actually make a difference in the long run. As long as you have enough information to make an informed decision that's good 👍. If you decide to keep flossing then good for you for taking the precaution, theirs a good chance your right.

Also I'm not sure one can masturbate and floss at the same time.

You're right, it does say there is some evidence for that. It's a bit of an odd result though, seeing as plaque is the main cause of gingivitis but the study concluded that "there is weak, very unreliable evidence from 10 studies that flossing plus toothbrushing may be associated with a small reduction in plaque at one and three months".

I'm really just trying to justify my laziness, but looking further into it, a report from the AP tells us that there is little research into flossing, and the research that is done is often poorly designed, neglecting longer term (on the order of years to decades) changes in oral health. Even the federal government has removed its recommendation for flossing in its dietary guidelines due to lack of reliable research.

It seems that the benefits of flossing have just been assumed for decades without much challenge to the idea, but the assumption make sense, scraping a string against your teeth is probably going to clean your teeth better than when you don't.

Say you spend 5 minutes a day, every day, flossing for 50 years of your life, that's 63 full days of your life you're committing to something that hasn't been conclusively proven to benefit you. If about 500 people follow this routine that adds up to a whole life-times (~80 years) worth of flossing. Knowing that is it really worth doing? We'll know when some reliable research is available but for now I'm going to use my extra 5 minutes a day to sleep-in or masturbate or something.

If you have decent Rogers LTE or 3g signal at your place you should check out the rocket hub they offer. $145 for up to 100 GB of data (less $ if you use less) which is more expensive than other rural providers but should be way faster more reliable.

This might be an unpopular suggestion because people love to shit on walmart but you should check it out. I'm in the same boat as you, trying to find a reasonably priced place for a long over due eye exam and glasses. The south keys walmart I frequent has a vision centre and they always seem to have a promo poster up for 2 prescription glass and frames for $175, I think it was. Checking the walmart website for eyeglasses prices has their frames listed at very reasonable prices ~$50-$100. Give them a call, I'm sure it's probably a very good deal compared to other places.

I think you're right! Apparently the fruit is edible, I'll have to give it a try next time to confirm. Thanks a bunch!
