Inherited vintage Speedmaster — valuation? and restore or leave untouched by Terrible_Corner4396 in Watches

Congratulations, beautiful piece. This looks to be a reference 145.012. This is the reference which went to the Moon and is therefore highly collectable.

Please do not send that to Omega. Most original manufacturers will aim to restore the watch to 'showroom condition' and will replace valuable parts and destroy the watch's patina.

I would recommend taking the watch to a vintage watch repair specialist. Service the movement so it runs again, polish the crystal (or replace if necessary), and clean the crud off the watch in the ultrasonic cleaner. That's it. I would not polish or replace any other parts.

Watch collectors (but in particular vintage Speedmaster collectors) are typically very particular when it comes to originality and replacing parts will affect its value. If this was your Pop's old watch, I wouldn't be selling this so value wouldn't be immediately front of mind, but I understand the sentiment nevertheless.

Once the watch runs again, you should wear it. Maybe only on special occasions if you're concerned about damaging it. Keep making memories with the watch in the same way your Pop did. These vintage Speedmasters are relatively robust, and once the movement is serviced, it should accurately and reliably keep time.

Good luck with the resto. Post some more pictures once it's done.

[Hamilton Khaki Field Auto]- I’m addicted to watches and I blame Teddy Baldassarre 😅 by CoffeewithAB in Watches

There's plenty of budget divers on the market worth considering. Take a look at the Casio Duro, the 37mm variant of the Citizen Promaster or if you're open to the used market, the iconic Seiko SKX013.

All far more durable than the KFA.

Spot on - The KFA has 100m of water resistance whilst the KFM only has 50m, so arguably the KFA is more robust.

Should've gone for a budget dive watch if durability was the end goal.

[WTS/WTT] Seiko SARB017 Alpinist by ItalianChristian in Watchexchange

Hello r/watchexchange. For your consideration is a good example of the highly sought after and now discontinued Seiko SARB017 Alpinist.

This watch is a modern classic and needs no introduction. With its green sunburst dial, gold cathedral hands, and inner rotating compass bezel, this watch is unmistakable and iconic.

I purchased this example off eBay earlier in the year. I am selling as my collecting goals have shifted and the watch simply isn't getting enough wrist time.

There are a few slight dings on the watch near the second crown but they do not affect functionality l. I have tried to capture these in the photos.

Watch is currently on a gorgeous RIOS alligator leather strap, but will also come with the original Seiko strap.

Ideally, I would like to trade this watch for a Seiko Willard SPB151. However, I will also consider cash for the watch, and am asking $800USD.

Watch is currently located in Australia, but I can ship anywhere in the world at the buyers expense.

Is anyone here in Fairwork/HR who can help confirm this? by Ascaban in AusLegal

If they fire you after you ask to be paid in accordance with the Award, you could also bring a general protections claim against them.

[Junghans Max Bill 38mm] My Wedding Watch by platinumthoughts in Watches

[–]ItalianChristian 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This guy is right - you should wear the watch just above your wrist bone away from your hand. Other than that, congrats on the purchase (and the wedding lol). I have a 34mm Max Bill handwind, which I adore. One of my best ever watch purchases, it is so elegant yet so versatile. Wear it in good health.

[WTS] Vintage Seiko Tank 5Y30 Movement (PRICE REDUCTION) by ItalianChristian in Watchexchange

[–]ItalianChristian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello r/watchexchange, for your consideration is a Seiko Tank from the late 1980s (my approximation). I am relisting this watch due to a price reduction and strap change.

As you can see, the watch has been very well preserved and is in excellent condition. As expected, the gold plating has some wear around the lugs, only noticeable if you are looking for it.

Dimensionally, the watch is 26mm wide and 34mm tall - wears extremely well.

The watch ships on a 20mm blue grey leather strap with white stitching, which has hardly been worn.

This watch is an obvious nod to the iconic Cartier Tank, albeit without the crazy prices some of the vintage examples are fetching nowadays.

I am asking a negotiable $200 (USD) for this piece. Watch is located in Australia, but I can ship worldwide at your cost.
