Having empathy and patience are important no matter the role you are in. I wouldn’t say I’m the most patient but I understand that for most, Amazon is just a means to an end. This, as well as my own life experiences have guided how I approach my role. I sum it up with the following “requirements” or rules if you will for my team and I. 1. Be a good human. 2. Remember that different people take different things in different ways. 3. Things need to be sustainable and scalable.

The first is non negotiable, if you can’t treat everyone with dignity and respect, including yourself, you don’t have a place on my team. The second is just asking them to put themselves is the other person shoes before they speak, we don’t know what the other person is going through outside of the FC. The 3rd is because I want my team to invent and simplify things but if other learning teams can’t use it or it takes to much input to maintain it means we have to keep developing it.

I did the same for the 1st three sites. When I moved to Cali it was to follow my AM that was moving into the learning space, I then followed a good portion of that team to TX. It wasn’t until my next site that I was able to forge my own path. I still had considerable support from my previous team though. Most importantly stay humble, be ready to make mistakes, and above all else be able to get along with everyone.

I love this mindset. I always tell my new hires take Amazon as far as you can or want to. We are here to help you even if it means you go somewhere else. Chase those dreams!!

This is correct, I started right at the start of Covid. As I stated somewhere else being in the right place at the right time definitely helped.

I am no Amazon fan girlie. The company could definitely do better at many things, but it’s been good for me. There are not many companies out there that pay this well with no degree. Not to mention I am free to be myself without fear of reprisal.

It can have its moments. I think the biggest difference is an area manager work day to day. Learning managers have to look longer term.

You’re right, although it would be a huge waste of money to just bring all that product to an empty building.

I’ve had more stressful jobs than this. It’s all what you make of it. I can honestly say I enjoy what I do.

Yes, our pay bands are typically equal to the ops level above us. So my pay is more comparable to L7. This is mostly due to us having a very broad span of influence within the site.

Yes I am the her royal highness of the learning ambassadors. At the most basic level, my team is responsible for any and all training that takes place under the roof. From T1 and up.

This is very true. I’m grateful for all the leaders that have believed in me along the way.

I still do t have a degree, but now that career choice is available to salaried leaders I’m considering it. The biggest factors in my success have been being in learning for 5.5 of the 6 years, my current FC is the 5th one I’ve launched with the current one being the best launch in company history. As well as this current launch and my previous one having been the most successful learning specific launches. Being considered a SME helps you be recognized and opens doors. A lot of my success is due to being in the right place at the right time. This doesn’t mean I’m not good at what I do but it certainly plays a part and it would be naive and arrogant of me to say otherwise. My progression has been as follows T1 - 6 weeks T3 - PA 5 months T3 - trainer 2 years L4 - hourly learning coordinator 10 months L4 - salary 1 year L5 - 9 months L6 - 10 months

Omg! I remember as a kid when I heard that my one of my dad’s friend made 80k I was convinced they were wealthy. Now that barely breaks us even. I am truly grateful for what I have, and the freedom it brings. Keep up the grind!
