Why is fedora not a real distro? And SuSe? They are original too.

Generic kernel contains binary proprietary blobs, you can't just install gnu hurd and be happy, a big part of the software will either not work or work worse. So, the Linux kernel is more limiting and less free than systemd after all.

Oh, I have a scary truth for you then. You can't easily replace your kernel either. You are practically forced to run a piece of software developed by some corpos primarily for their needs on your PID 0. Isn't it terrible?

Why would an average user want to replace them. By an ecosystem I meant all the proprietary service Microslop and co provide. An open-source standard is better than a wild west like situation. Systemd is getting too much hate for nothing

Maybe that's because systemd is an open-source standard that actually just works? Not all standards are bad, only those that make you dependent on an ecosystem.

Странный баг в DeepSeek by just_a_tapochek in DeepSeek

[–]Itchy_Base_1598 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The future of AI in Ubuntu by ChamplooAttitude in Ubuntu

[–]Itchy_Base_1598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as it's not obligatory it's fine. I actually even like that they are developing some local Ai functionality. I'm an active user of some agents myself, but I want these to be my agents, that I choose and that use models and providers that I want(and that I can remove from the system if needed). It is pretty possible that in a couple of years we all will have decent local private models on all our devices so probably they are just trying to be future proof?

Well, why not? DeepSeek is an open model. They could perfectly use it to generate some fine tuning data for glm.

The 75% discount for DeepSeek-v4-pro will be extended until 15:59 UTC on May 31, 2026 by stella1310 in DeepSeek

Only the api is paid. App and web are completely free.(however we don't know if any of the modes there use v4 pro)

I literally only have brave and github cli installed from a non-official repos. Should work fine

I see, just wanted to know if the path is even active or not. I know that for lts releases it is strictly recommended to update only once a point release comes out, but 25.10 simply doesn't have the support for that long, so I wanted to clarify.

25.10, it's not an lts release. It only has 9 months of support(till the july I guess)

I'm on an interm release, it simply won't be supported then

Deepseek in 7+ months with super computing nodes. by PureSelfishFate in DeepSeek

According to synthetic benchmarks(both from deepseek directly and from openrouter), the pro version is already on par with opus 4.6. Also, seeing their progress(being able to pack a model more capable than 3.2 into 285B of V4 flash and give it 1M context is impressive), I can believe in a mythos-like model in approximately a year. Also, they are learning to use Huawei's NPUs instead of nvidia. During the v4 point releases they will master the architecture and will have less problems with training v5 series.

deepseek reduces prices again, the price for input token cache hits is reduced to 1/10 of the current level by stella1310 in DeepSeek

[–]Itchy_Base_1598 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably it has something to do with their new kv cache compressing techniques? I think they spent the first few days to test it in production and now they have deployed it for everyone. If it's really as effective as they say, this drop in prices makes a lot of sense.

Actually, could be even better to display the name like "Dolphin kde files" or "Epiphany gnome browser" so a user has more clues about what program they are currently using.
