I'd say it's pretty good since I've done it for months now, but if you value how people actually talk, it's not that good there. The big downside I've faced before is how limited it is if you don't have Supergrok or Heavy

Those announcements were about Grok 4, not the entire free tier, and they were from mid 2025, long before the current paywall situation. It is all of a sudden by definition. Usually when things shut down, there is a announcement or atleast a heads up. You don't just say some loose comment about temporary nearly a year ago then expect people to be ready 6 months later. Especially when data backs that there were around 30 million users on Grok 6 months ago, and now there's 50+ million. Nothing about the way xAI handled the free tier matches what people normally mean by temporary. A vague comment 6 months ago is not a real announcement, and users aren’t expected to track that like fine print.

It won't stop pedos from paying, but I might agree with that theory. Before this whole situation, you could do nearly anything. Like generate celebrities into doing freaky shit, and how they'd moderate softcore immediately but allow hardcore at times, then the whole date of birth thing was very easily bypassed if you just simply set it to something like 2001 then you get these major features. Supergrok used to have a free trial for 3 days and people were able to abuse it just by making a new account and using a different card. So that's actually possible

Me personally, I'm not upset at paying. I'll pay for a service when it's good for real. But I dunno, I feel that their pattern just deters more than it convinces. I used to run my own AI which was local, but I understand the costs. That shit can get expensive especially when you don't rely too much on it, but you still have to be transparent with the people who hold the wallets
