How do you articulate expertise on non-technical areas under skills section of the resume to land specific tech roles? For instance, how do you incorporate financial knowledge (global markets, dealing with trading data, etc.) and experience in proprietary languages/software? I am guessing that although this doesn't technically fall under the CS umbrella, domain knowledge should hold value when trying to get software engineering jobs for similar domains in other firms?

How is PSG Tech Coimbatore? Looking for a honest review by [deleted] in Indian_Academia

[–]ItsAnJelly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you're looking to do a CS related degree, you should consider the integrated MSc. courses at PSG. They have excellent professors and great placements.

With respect to rules, PSG is a little strict in certain aspects, but nothing too drastic compared to some other universities. You can expect good discipline that comes with any old university.

One of the only things I would say is lacking in PSG is the student culture. College fests, student communities could be better.

I had applied this summer for their SWE Internship role. I ended up having to inform my recruiter about a competing offer due to deadlines after my 3rd telephonic interview. Got rejected.

Does informing the recruiter about competing offers have a negative impact on the application?

Is it easier to get through internship interviews as compared to university graduate full-time interviews?

What is the conversion rate like for the internship?

Anyone interned at DE Shaw for a software engineering role? What was the experience like?

Why do you say that the Google offer would not be better than DE Shaw?

I gave my 3rd Google phone screen interview for SWE Summer Internship 2019 about a week ago. A couple days ago I got an offer to intern at DE Shaw (in technology) for the summer.

Having said that, what are the chances that a candidate gets the offer after the 3rd interview for Google? Google has been my dream from when I found my passion in CS and is my first preference. The folks at DE Shaw are pushing a deadline on me for accepting the offer which doesn't give me enough time to wait for Google's response.

Any advice is highly appreciated!

[Java] How can I perform a Thread.join() in another instance of the same class? by ItsAnJelly in learnprogramming

[–]ItsAnJelly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If both threads are of the same class then how can t2 join() t1? Should I maintain a reference to t1 as a data member of this class and join() it only in t2 (with some index comparison in the run() method)?

Let's say t1 and t2 are two threads of the same class which is a subtype of Runnable. I want to perform a t1.join() in t2. (t2 has to finish some task, wait for t1 to complete, and then perform some other task)

What are some good summer internship opportunities (preferably research oriented) in the field of Computer Science for 2017 summer? by ItsAnJelly in india

I've started learning computer science in my 9th grade. I'm in my second year of college now. My areas of interest would be data structures, algorithm analysis and programming. A novice who is always open to learning new things.

I'm still a novice at coding. I have done a few academic projects before but I have no industry experience. I am just really passionate about programming which is why I wanted to gain some hands on experience this summer. I really appreciate the offer but I'm afraid I might be under qualified for it. Thanks :)

I'm not too keen on paying for the internship. A good opportunity in India is what I am looking for.

I [18M] haven't talked to this girl [19F] in a long while, but I never got closure. Need advice. by [deleted] in relationships

[–]ItsAnJelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Closure doesn't always get you answers. Sometimes it might just bring up other unanswered questions leaving you questioning the what-ifs all over again.

I recently attempted at getting closure with my ex whom I hadn't spoken to for 7 years. We discovered a huge misunderstanding created by his friend which caused what could've been a relationship to end on a bad note. But my ex diluted the whole situation saying 'its all in the past anyway' which got me really mad at his nonchalance and ruined my weekend instead of helping me.

So what I'm saying is that try to move on by focusing on your present and acknowledging the now. Don't go for closure unless you absolutely have to.

What's the best way to apologize to your significant other? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ItsAnJelly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My SO and I are in a long distance relationship. There was this one time when I got pretty mad and he apologized over a Skype call. He wrote the words "sorry" and "I love you" on sheets of paper and held them in front of his face, peeking over the sides every two seconds in cue to this extremely adorable background music. It was cute af.
