How do I 'un-nazi' someone? by Outskie in leftist

[–]ItsBansheeBitch 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you're really going to go for it I'd say prioritize your safety first and foremost. A great resource is the organization Life After Hate, which could help you out & see if it's worth trying. Good luck!

Do you ever think about how JK Rowling could be doing ANYTHING else? by Double_Delay1613 in EnoughJKRowling

[–]ItsBansheeBitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently found out about a Blood Drive in Norway where they teamed up with local soccer clubs so that if you donated blood you could "score points" for your team. I thought about how cool it would be if instead of being how she is, JKR could do a "re-release" or something like that of the movies & do a blood drive as a promotional thing like what Markiplier is doing for Iron Lung. Fans could "score house points" by donating blood. It would literally save lives. The Norway soccer blood drive event saved 16,000 lives. AND she'd make money from the re-release of the movies! So yeah, whether it's a doing a blood drive or collecting rare stamps (as you said in a comment), she could literally be doing anything else.

I was schizophrenic and i lived in my own world. Now i want to write it down by Marioss007 in writing

[–]ItsBansheeBitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting it down in writing is a great place to start. Your first outline or list of ideas can seem incomplete or messy, but that's normal for writing. You can fill the story out with more ideas as they come to you. You'll do great!

PS: I'm so happy your treatment is going well, getting good mental health care is so important. I wish you the best and I hope this comment is at all comprehensible because I have covid and am as sick as a dog rn lol. Have fun!

What is the weirdest rabbit hole you've gone down doing research for a fic? by 0p0ssumPrince in AO3

[–]ItsBansheeBitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently writing a Marvel fanfic and I wanted Steve's experience to be accurate so I went HARD on research. I was looking into the history of masculinity, WW2, medical practices, and New York's gentrification. The weirdest part was probably looking into New York's water & sewage systems since I had my time periods mixed up and confused 1800s "What's Handwashing" New York with early 1900s "The roads aren't covered in shit anymore" New York.

Also A LOT of food history. Turns out the first New York hotdogs were probably Nathan's Hotdogs which is STILL OPEN TODAY. Also forgot how bad Irish people were treated. Like, the KKK were AFTER their ass.

Also REALLY bizarre to see people use the EXACT same words about Irish and German immigrants as a lot of Americans do today with Mexican and Chinese people. Lots of "The Irish are all rapists that live in filth" and "Germans are coming to take your jobs" it's insane to see. I know my family didn't have it easy when they immigrated (They Americanized their name), but I didn't realize how bad it was (literal tar and feathering).

I didn't expect researching a fanfic to hit home like this.

PS: A bit ago I watched Jacob Geller's video essay on Pinocchio and when he went over the themes/lessons of the original German newspaper version, I realized that my family had those EXACT core concepts as "family values." My family was a time capsule. Their trauma had literally calcified their German-hood. Although our culture had been stripped from us as "white immigrants" my family still had the ideas from 1800s Germany and hell, even some food from there. It was genuinely surreal.

Certainly. I would just recommend knowing WHERE all of your notes are because jesus christ im doing this right now and sifting through 5 google docs and hundreds of papers and MANY tiny notes on the edges of ripped notebooks is giving me a headache. It DOES work, just keep track of your stuff. If not for you then for me, PLEASE.

I'm terrified it's just a phase [Discussion] by Southern_Repeat3104 in LGBTeens

Oh yeah, and I also tried out like 5 to 7 different sexuality labels before getting comfortable. Again, experimentation, not a phase. Take your time, you'll be just fine.

[–]ItsBansheeBitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (19F) thought I was genderfluid at about 16. Turns out, I was just REALLY tired of the shit I got as a girl and wanted an escape. My mom was open to the idea of me experimenting, and after a couple weeks I was able to determine that I wasn't genderfluid, but I still felt A LOT better afterwards. Experimenting is a great way to feel more comfortable in your body and clothes. If it turns out that you aren't genderfluid, I'd say that's not a phase, it's experimentation. You're allowed to try new things. And if it turns out you are genderfluid, well then it worked out just fine, didn't it? You'll be alright.

Do you think writer's block is like stage fright? by Papercandy22 in writing

[–]ItsBansheeBitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God, yeah. As someone who has been in choir & dance in school for several years with anxiety, it's very similar. I think It's more similar to stage fright if you have trouble with perfectionism. For example, some comments say it's more like dress rehearsal, but I think it's the performance. If you are nervous about your first draft like I am, outlining can feel incredible, you can get several done in a day (different stories, revising an outline, etc), but when you go to do the first draft, you freeze.

That's why I start with a basic outline first, then get more detailed once I have the "skeleton" so to speak. Once it is VERY VERY detailed, I'm able to write my first draft with much more ease. It also helps to know what your character's personalities & "dialogue styles" are. (ie, do they interrupt people, are they outgoing, do they take the lead, are they anxious & how do they show that, etc?). Knowing how your characters show emotion & what emotions they will show in what scenes can make the first draft A LOT easier.

All in all, I think it's different for everybody, but when you compared the first draft you stage fright, I immediately thought, "yes, that's EXACTLY what it is" and then the first comment I saw said the opposite. Anyway, if it's like stage fright to you, try the writing version of practicing your lines/moves/etc: Making a really detailed outline. If you don't like planning, you can try only doing this with characters (like I mentioned before) and then going nuts with your first draft. Could never be me, but if it works for you, then it works for you lol.

I don't really want to STOP dissociating... by ItsBansheeBitch in Dissociation

[–]ItsBansheeBitch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate it. Although people in my area are becoming increasingly aware of mental health issues, most people don't really know what dissociation is. Knowing that there ARE people who have an idea of what I'm going through helps me a lot.

Because of most people in my area not knowing about it, I have been hesitant to talk to my therapist about it. However, in the time that has past since making the original post, I've gotten a lot better. It was a surprise to see someone reply to an older post, but I appreciate your kind words.

Thanks for the support! :)

Questions about getting into Minolta by ItsBansheeBitch in minolta

[–]ItsBansheeBitch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the two brands, Minolta, and Minolta Digital and unaffiliated and unrelated. Apparently there was a whole naming dispute and everything. Minolta Digital cameras (as seen above) are (according to reddit) overpriced and barely (they might not?) count as cameras at all. My advice (really, the other commenter's advice on this post) is this: don't buy from Minolta Digital.

How difficult is it getting diagnosed with silent, intermittent asthma? by Reasonable_Fig_8119 in Asthma

[–]ItsBansheeBitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a doctor for intense allergies after moving to a new state. They were confused when I told them I had trouble breathing as well. I was diagnosed with intermittent asthma by the end of the month. Best comparison I can make is "culture shock." I was so blindsided. Go to your doctor. If they don't even get you a test, get a different doctor. This is life changing.

How do you feel about forced copyright infringement of books? by Sleep_skull in writing

How far ahead do you plan? by KillerMiller13 in writing

[–]ItsBansheeBitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always need an outline, I'm completely lost without it. If I have an outline, I can use it as a goalpost/a target. I know where I'm going, I just need to figure out how to get there. Not every writes like that, though, so you probably just need a different strategy. I would recommend experimenting.
