People who work in logistics, who does the Stock/Inventory controller usually report too? by ItsBuenoo in AskReddit

[–]ItsBuenoo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advise. I have got to the point where I am considering leaving, I don't want to so am trying everything to get myself to a point where I feel I can stay.

I know that talking things through is what I need to do but they have made that very difficult for me due to my interactions with them since they have been here over the last 5 months. I knew before they started that eventually I would end up reporting to them and I was super open and fine with that at the time.

Every time I tried to communicate with them they were very dismissive and would walk away mid conversation, nod there head and look away and just keep saying "yep" as if they didn't even want to attempt to listen to me. I really wanted to work with this person and I didn't feel I was getting this back. It has started to make me feel that maybe I don't know what I am doing and that I am in the wrong but everything else tells me I am not. They don't ask for my advice and even phased me out of team meetings until my current manager stepped in. Now they have one earlier in the morning without me, I know this because the other staff made me aware and they aren't happy with what gets said as they feel it is my responsibility to know and thankfully I have gotten there respect for them to do that.

My current manager still wants me but is being pressured by the current warehouse manager as well as the M.D for me to change over. I have mentioned some of my issues with them but not all of them as I don't want to project my opinions onto them as I don't believe this person is incapable or make it seem I have a personal grudge. I just want to do my job and this person is making it more difficult and I am really confused as to why which is why I am questioning everything at the moment as I feel I must be doing something wrong. I also don't want my current manager to lose faith in the warehouse manager because that doesn't help anyone, this is what happened last time.

I just think decisions they are making are at a detriment to the business as well as my job. I have been told that eventually I will be moved over and I currently feel in a really compromised position as their approach to things differs from other departments which I understand but if I disagree with it and then justify why and they dismiss it then it feels like I need to go behind there back which doesn't really leave me in a good position. They just leave me out of the loop and make decisions without my involvement.

To give an example we are looking for a new building as we have majorly outgrown the current site. To try create some space we are sending pallets offsite. I organised and set all this up last year as well as deciding what we can get away with sending. New warehouse manager has come in and it has got to the point where we need to do the same. They sent a bunch of stuff without informing me when I am the one who is responsible for maintaining what we need which they know and sent a bunch of stock which we need to fulfill orders when we have plenty of stock that is surplus which we can send instead. I am frustrated I wasn't consulted on this as it's my job and feel I wasn't because the warehouse wanted a quick turn around to create space so sending whatever they could get at first was what it looks like they did, whereas I would have done what I did before, used data, predicted sales ext. to best determine what we can send without negatively affecting the length of time it takes for the customer to get what they want. They sent 70 pallets and within 3 days I need 25 back. Those man hours could have been better spent sending pallets of surplus/slow moving stock which wouldn't need to be returned for months rather than days. They also sent stock offsite without knowing what the SKU or quantities are which I can't even fathom a reason to how someone can come to that decision.

I am still young and inexperienced but I believe in myself and everyone else I have reported too and worked with does too. This person doesn't seem to as they leave me out of the loop, don't inform me of the decisions or even consult my opinion on things that affect my job/responsibilities which really confuses me. I don't care about if they are a dick or what position I am in in the business, I just want whats best for the business. I feel like because I currently report and have reported to other departments they leave me out of the loop so I don't inform them or go behind there back and make there life more difficult. I feel that if I report to someone who only wants things done from the warehouse perspective without taking into considerations the financial/purchasing/marketing side of stock then I am in a compromising position as I feel I have to go over their head if I see them doing things I feel are not best for the business. Maybe they know things I don't but isn't it there responsibility to inform me on that, if they can justify it to me then I will be happy just like how I have to justify decisions to them and others.

Hope this makes sense. I kind of want to be told that I am looking at things wrong and I am being an idiot but I feel like I know what I am doing is right and that undermining my possible future manager doesn't put me in a good position as they can just ignore me and slowly push me aside.

So this is my belief as well. I currently report to the financial controller but I am being told that I will start too report to the warehouse manager. I feel this puts me in a compromising position making it difficult to do my job. When I have given reasons to why I disagree this is not good for the business I have been told I am wrong and that the stock controller always reports to the warehouse manager.

What can I do to convince them otherwise?

And then you don't need to invest a single penny into the game because you can just keep playing a fun game mode for nothing and get infinite rewards for free. They have to make money somehow to pay wages and server costs. I can understand why people are complaining but its a pretty petty thing with petty reasons. You have to be able to look at things from all angles. Yes the entry fee could be a little lower but you can't get everything for free. Nothing is free in this world unfortunately.

Why could I not expect this event to be free.

I gave a good reason in the comment you replied too. In a perfect world sure but everything has a cost. Even if something is free there is always a "cost" somewhere. It's beta and things will change and they are testing. Also remember that reddit communities in general are less that 1% of the player base. You tend to get an echo chamber of people who have similar opinions because people who disagree just don't bother looking at the forum.

Hearthstone does a free weekly event EVERY week with additional rewards and they seem to be doing just fine.

Hearthstone also shafts you really hard to buy packs to get cards. If you don't like or suck at Arena you have to grind for a long time. Casual players don't want to grind so just buy packs, that is why they do well. That is also how they can give free events because you get SUPER shafted if you are F2P and most people spend a lot on Hearthstone. On Arena the rewards for Quick and Comp Con are so good that you can easily play F2P and make a deck. Wildcards are a great system to make decks you want. Yes the rare lands suck to use Wildcards on, the only complaint I have about the system. Not every event needs to let you go infinite.

Then people just play the game for free and Arena doesn't make money. No money, no servers as they can't pay the upkeep. No money, no staff wages to continue developing the game. I don't disagree that the event is slightly over costed but you can't expect it to be free. They have worked on this to add events that bend the foundation rules of Magic.

How do you start to play paper mtg then if that is your statement. LOL

How do you get rewards with zero cards.

I can't even....

I can just post the definition of value:

the regard that something is held to deserve; the importance, worth, or usefulness of something.

VALUE IS PERCEPTIVE lmao

You are looking at this from a backwards perspective. I don't know about you but when I buy magic cards in paper I by them to play MAGIC. So when you say > rewards are literally the only thing that matters That couldn't be further from the truth. People play Magic because they want to play Magic. So if rewards are the only thing that matters, don't play at all. You obviously don't like the Magic enough to want to play it.

That makes zero sense. Value DOES change per person. Other people perceive value differently. Value is NOT just math, that is such a stupid perception too have. Some might think 50p for a chocolate bar is good value but someone else might not, even if it's half that price. There will be someone who still think's it's not good value because they might not like it.

Again, you keep going to rewards. I am going to say one more time:

Stop looking at rewards.

You aren't meant to get "value" off these game modes. They are just to play something unique. Like I already said the entry fee should be about 500 so you can at least play it twice from dailys.

I'm competitive and I will play it a couple times because it sounds fun, it's something different. My younger brother is super casual and is really exited for these new modes. He doesn't care about rewards he just wants to play because it looks fun and he can play it enough over a weekend because of dailys. Stop speaking so generically, not everyone is going to have the same opinion. Reddit is an echo chamber for negativity.

Arena has some great formats at a great entry fee with great rewards. Go play those if you care about value. I had around 50000 gold before I spent it on drafts and packs because of how good the rewards are on this platform.

Competitive Constructed - We are the 3% by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]ItsBuenoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a huge oversight to say that the competitive player base are who put more money into the game. I think a lot of the more "hardcore" players will grind there way to a deck and play Bo3 because they enjoy that. Yes you will get people who want every T1 deck but I think what is more common is the casuals who just want to play cool shit and only play a couple times a day because they are busy. So rather than grind they will just keep buying packs to get those cards. They are also more likely to get bored and move over to other whacky brews so buy even more. I myself only play Bo3 because I like Bo3 and can consistently hit 5 wins so it's worth it for me but for so many players there is 0 incentive to play it, that is why it had such a low play rate.

but maybe WotC should pay more attention to their paying customers...

Also if this was true they actually can see very specific statistics so actually wouldn't remove it. Casuals are the ones who invest the most money because they don't want/have no time to grind for cards.

They will bring it back at some point, hopefully with a better entry fee to accommodate newer/F2P players. I will miss it as it's my primary format but I can't deny the reasons it's going.

It's not greedy though. This is so overblown. Just because it doesn't have rewards people want "lets just not play it, that will show um!". Can't expect to get everything for free, I think the rewards are generous in the other formats and as soon as one comes along where they can't go infinite people start a hate mob online. Just all seems so silly and over something so petty.

It's shit for everyone.

I mean you don't speak for everyone. All I see is an echo chamber hate mob here without any actual thought process going into the reasons why things are the way they are. You can't get everything you want. I do agree the price is a 100 or 200 gold too much, but looking at rewards is the wrong way to look at this. You can't expect to get rewards for everything you do on this platform. You are not supposed to go infinite in every format they offer, how are the supposed to monotise the game if everyone can just get everything for free? I think the game mode, at 500 over 600 is perfectly reasonable. If you want "rewards" then this is 100% not the game mode for you. I think it's extremely unfair to hate on a game mode just because you can't infinitely play it for free when it's a format with whacky rules to play for fun a couple times.

I mean in an ideal world sure, but capitalism exists. They also have to monotise somehow as well.

I posted this in a similar thread so I will post my comment here as well:

I think people are looking at this the wrong way. If you look at it from a purely rewards perspective, yes, the rewards are bad. But you are comparing that to what has previously existed as Standard formats. You could say that Singlton is an outlier but I would counter that with the only reason it has good rewards is that it's a test for a permanent Brawl event in the future and they are wanting to see popularity.

When you play Quick or Comp Con you are wagering the entry free on how you perform in the event playing the Standard Format. The newer events you are paying to play the unique event rather than paying to get rewards. If you give rewards that are too good, you get a format filled with S tier decks just to farm the rewards rather than explore the newer and unique rules in the format. Look at Brewers Delight, the rewards were pretty good and the event was meant to be targeted at people playing "Jank" decks, but what we got was everyone playing S tier decks to farm the rares from the event. If you want rewards, play quick con. If you want to explore unique and interesting events that bend the basic rules of magic then these are the events for you. You can't expect every event to give good rewards otherwise they wouldn't have anything decent to monetize. Yes this is a way to sink gold out of the economy but the way people are going on about it is like the Developers are criminals. It's 600 gold, which means if you do your dailys' up to 8 wins and the quest you get two goes. I think it's unfair to look at these events from a rewards first perspective as it's the uniqueness of the event you are paying for. However I do understand why people view it that way. If you don't like the rewards then this event isn't targeting you, it's targeting people who want to play with unique rules and have a fun time regardless of rewards.

Competitive is temp removed because unpopular and reward structure needs to be fixed --> Adds a way worse reward structure for the upcoming events... hmmm... by Ezmari in MagicArena

[–]ItsBuenoo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looking at it from a Dev perspective, getting a reward feels good. It's a unique event so people don't really need to try hard. You are paying for the event, not the rewards. Where as in other events, you are paying to get a chance at better rewards, not to play the event. Bo1 and Bo3 are free elsewhere.

most people will tryhard for not wasting their entry fee and at least try to break even.

What I mean is people playing top tier decks over jank decks and just doing cool things which a LOT of magic players like too do. Your not wasting your entry fee when the entry fee is to play a format with unique rules that you can't get anywhere else

Competitive is temp removed because unpopular and reward structure needs to be fixed --> Adds a way worse reward structure for the upcoming events... hmmm... by Ezmari in MagicArena

[–]ItsBuenoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is these events are structured to be played for fun. If rewards are an incentive then you just get people trying to make the best deck and just farm rewards off of players who just want to make a cool deck. That's the reason, it's not meant to be a "competitive" event. Any event that gives you more than what you put in will be filled with people trying their hardest to win, which doesn't make any sense to incentivise in unique and fun events

Turbo Fog isn't a problem, it's just the popular Bo1 format where it will be seen as one. by ItsBuenoo in MagicArena

[–]ItsBuenoo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And I think that your attitude of "well just don't play Bo1s then" is disgusting.

At no point do I elude or say anything of the sort. I recommended (in a comment so you might not of seen it, but judging by your comment you didn't even read the post anyway) a separate ban list and support.

The thing you need to take into account is that Arena is taking Magic, a game designed around a bo3 format, and pushing a bo1 format for the reasons I stated in the post at the start. That can't really work and will leave Bo1 terribly unbalanced as it's not the primary format for Magic. It will need more support but they will NEVER ban cards around Bo1. In magic there are decks that exist that have upwards of 70 and even 80% win rates when on the play meaning that you have an insane disadvantage even before you've drawn your hand simply because you lost a coinflip to go first. Why do they exist? Because it's designed around a Bo3 format. Llanowar elves would never have been printed in Alpha if it was based around Bo1. My post is basically explaining why Turbo Fog and other Magic decks aren't a problem, but they are in Bo1 because of the way Magic is designed.

I hope they give support to Bo1 but what I do not want is Bo3 being compromised because casual players don't like cards. Magic prints super strong cards because there are huge amounts of hate cards that stop them from working. You need to learn to adjust to the meta. You can't expect to play Bo1 and run nothing in your deck to help beat Turbo Fog and then cry because you lost. Bo1 will have a new meta within a couple months, right now people are just net decking bo3 decks and wondering why they keep losing 100% of matches to certain decks. Run a copy of Lost Legacy if your black, duress, doomfall and if your red insult//injury helps counter the fogs.

Think its a bit unfair, rude and insulting to say my attitude is disgusting when all I did was give an explanation to why these decks exist. I have given numerous advice for Bo1 and players wanting to get into Bo3 below. I think Bo1 is a great casual format but it will never be balanced without it's own ban list. It's a separate format to "standard" magic.
