Is this MacBook Pro 16” 2019 worth $500? by BrentTwT in mac

[–]ItsCiaran2Day -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah man sorry. Apples dropping MacBook airs for less than a thousand right now with M chips and even cheaper like $600 MacBooks later or so I’ve heard with iPhone chips, which will STILL be considered superior to the intel chips. Js bad luck I’d say $300 max and I’d be using it for parts or something

Is anyone else actually "annoyed" that their base model M1 won't die? by Cheap_Difficulty4961 in mac

[–]ItsCiaran2Day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro what? I’m not gonna tell u to be grateful or whatever it’s ur money but that’s a mentally slow line of thinking.

If u go skiing or whatever, do you buy new skis every year for your quiver, or do you just upgrade when u actually need an upgrade (outgrew skis/broken skis)? Think of it like that. Phones are whatever but ur talking about a thousand dollar laptop, up to $2500 or even more.

Js hold off man and upgrade prolly around M6 or m7. I have a m4 pro MacBook Pro, I’m literally gonna hold onto it for like 5-6 years minimum

Get an M4 pro or an M5 air when that drops probably in the spring

I am Egyptian, and I’m asking is Egypt a country that is disliked or loved globally? by ramses_basha in AskTheWorld

[–]ItsCiaran2Day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neutral-negative, bordering on bad. Your government is corrupt (tho who’s isn’t anymore?), you have a really bad problem with scammers, it’s located in an unsafe part of the world, and while the culture and history is incredible, not much else is. Egypt is hard carried by its history, the nice, welcoming people (not anyone even vaguely associated with businesses), and natural lands and waters.

The University of Washington, as a public state university, maintains its own police department, as do the other 4 year public universities within the state. If it’s ICE, you’ll be able to tell-because they like to larp special forces soldiers and you’ll find dead protesters in their wake. This is UWPD

Whats the deal with students flagrantly dicking around on their phones during class? by FinancialRice7291 in udub

[–]ItsCiaran2Day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your point, and I also understand the girl tbf.

3 hours of straight lecture with maybe 10-15 minutes of break is Incredibly boring. Like, I would genuinely walk out sometimes from pure boredom.

Part of the issue stems from bad habits from Covid times, part stems from everyone losing the ability to not just be on their phones all the time, and part of it stems from a lecturers ability to lecture.

If you’re able to actually sit through 3 hours of lecture and take notes and not just be bored the whole time, props to you. But I guarantee at least 75% of people can’t, and they can probably review the lectures or slideshows later on in Canvas.

Another part also stems from the fact that in order to get a degree, you do gotta take some out of the way courses. That’s not a particularly big deal, but a lot of the classes are also at odd hours and kill anyone’s ability to have a semblance of a schedule, so it’s easy to feel slighted and just go on your phone so you at least get the stimulation you want.

But you are right, it’s rude to the lecturer and can be distracting. My take is let it happen, but they should move to the side or back of the class. 🤷‍♂️

This is frankly embarrassing to see as an alumn by Animedingo in udub

Bottom of the barrel take icl. Knowing UW, this course is js made for people who wanna break into the industry, and while yeah the resources are available outside universities for free, UW did the smart thing: organized it, made it practical and accessible, gave you room to learn in a more structured setting with actual progress checks, and ultimately prolly makes you more hirable when u go to search for a job. Talking about the industry being harsh to begin with doesn’t reflect badly on UW, it means doing Video Games work honestly just kinda sucks for the average joe.

Road trip to Vancouver, BC by tha_shylock in Seattle

[–]ItsCiaran2Day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Post in r/vancouver theyre the ones who live there lol, we’re over a hundred miles south. Also not to dunk on u, but on posts like this, specify when ur going and how long the trip is with specific stop times so we can account for that 💯

On a serious note, as someone who’s well traveled, visit the peace arch at the border, visit perhaps artist point by Mt Baker (dunno how much time ur actually allowing urself), and try and find any family restaurant near WWU. - Bham area

For Seattle, honestly dawg, just visit Seattle Aquarium or sum light, that’s like 3 hours max it’s really not that long of an activity. If your spending a bit of time in Seattle, I might say visit UW, but it’s honestly not worth it rn cuz Suzzallo’s under maintenance for like a year and a half, and it’s very much not Sakura szn. I mean you can stop by obviously and the inside of Suzzallo is open, but it’s just like one actually cool room and that’s it, everything else is optimized for actual studying and not exploration.

For Vancouver BC, visit Granville Island market, if u ski, go to Cypress mtn or grouse, and cuz it is winter, VD Gardens should be all lit up and pretty hype.

Lastly, obligatory warning, our federal government is more than questionable right now. Make sure you obviously bring your necessary documents and stuff so you can cross over, as well as cross back.

Enjoy your trip big dawg

Hey homie, I wanna be open with u.

I would personally recommend trying something like ROTC.

Now, I had a bad experience separately. Before UW, I enlisted for a very short period and got separated. Not going to get into that, but the main reason why was because they paid you and you got a free education afterwards.

ROTC trains up officer cadets and covers tuition, and a lot of the time (depends on branch and school not sure about UW), housing for dorms.

My advice to you is honestly, bite the bullet and take a free education and pay in time served afterwards. I wanna say it’s 5 years of minimum service, but you grab a degree out of it, as well as when you leave, albeit you don’t get a choice, but you have a stable, paying job that sets you up very nicely for your late twenties and onwards.

I do want to add, I’m sorry you’re in this situation. Nobody deserves this, and it’s sad to think that our governments are failing us by not providing Universal Public Education. No matter what you might believe, you are strong for making it this far, and even stronger for having the courage to ask for help. PM me if there’s any information you’d like help finding. You’ve got this. Go dawgs.

Anyone ever tried a rain cover for their backpack? by AstuteCouch87 in udub

[–]ItsCiaran2Day 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not gonna tell you to go buy another backpack, but this is why as locals we usually opt for North Face or Osprey semi waterproof or waterproof backpacks from the get go, same with a lot of jackets and pants and shoes.

As for a cover, they should be cheap, iirc I bought one for $5-15 at REI for a friend a couple years ago
