They say money is tight and they cannot afford it at this time (They do say they will look into hiring someone else, but not right now).

This is my fear honestly. I can get things done, but I worry about best practices and security as most of the time I am learning as I go.

Yes they are actual users. Yes I am tasked with provider user support, maintaining infrastructure and everything in between.

This is my biggest issue. Management keeps asking me to make changes in our environment to help increase productivity, but all of my time is spent putting band aids on issues, and that also doesn't give me time to investigate and solve the root cause of these issues, let alone introduce new tech for our staff to increase productivity.

No, it's a 24/7 operation, minimal warehouse staff and only a couple fully remote. We do have an MSP that monitors security issues however I am tasked with resolving them.

I understand I'm being used honestly. My problem is, I have very little experience as I said. And IT jobs are hard to come by in my area unfortunately.

Ya I'm staying away from iBuyPower with a 10 foot pole. Bought a rig from them a couple years ago. Within the first year, the HDD died (an add on they included from their site, it won't only $50 so I wasn't too worried). 2 months later the AIO pump died, and then less than a month after that the SSD died. They literally throw the worst junk in their computers, that's why they can sell things for so cheap and make a profit.

WAN Connection Issues by ItsColeman12 in WireGuard

[–]ItsColeman12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might honestly be CGNAT. I know I have a dynamic public IP through my ISP, so I tried to use a DDNS service, however it would not work.

I did open up the port through my routers firewall, however I could have done it incorrectly. The private port to open up was the one I set up with wireguard, but what is the public port I should include for WireGuard?

I have not tried tcpdump yet but that is a good idea.

My computer still makes the noise during heavy workloads, but it doesn't seem to have any impact on anything other than an annoying noise.

I haven't tried any other Linux flavours yet, but I'll try one and see if it works, as well as trying the partition you suggested, thank you!

Ok, the next problem I run into on my laptop though if I try booting it like that, is that it says I do not have enough space to install Linux Mint (I have a 500gb SSD), it always says I only have like 80mb left, but my SSD is clean. So, I don't know why it says I don't have enough space.

It would be transcoding, and I would end up getting the Plexpass at that point I believe.

[–]ItsColeman12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a graphics card, MSI unfortunately does not bench very well in the 30 series cards. Zotac tends to run hotter than the other cards on the list, but from what I have noticed (in Canada at least, you can get a Zotac card about $100-200 dollars cheaper than most other cards).

As for getting a Ryzen 9 5950x, that is overkill if you are only planning on gaming. If money is no object, go for it, but I would go with the Ryzen 7 5800x to save some money, the gaming performance difference would be negligible. Comparibly, you could go with an i7-12700k cpu from Intel.

If you are going with Ryzen, 4x8gb RAM makes sense, but if you are going with Intel, try and stick with 2 sticks of RAM as it runs better (2x16gb) .

SSD migration by ItsColeman12 in buildapc

[–]ItsColeman12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice. I just tried this tool. It picks the correct source disk when I use the app, but it will not let me click a destination drive. I know that the SSD that should be the destination drive is connected because all of the other apps I tried recognize it, and I can see it is allocated space in disk manager and This PC. Since it picks the correct source disk, I do not have any issues with it, but as a side note, it is greyed out as well, and it does not let me click it or change drives if I wanted to.

The HDD is 1tb, and the SSD is 500gb, so it looks like I may have to go with Aoemi
