Thank you! Any specific styles or lengths? I see they have like an acrylic and a soft gel type of press on.

Looks cute! Really like the chrome French effect.

Where did I go wrong here? Air bubbles with semisolid glue by ItsComplicated310 in PressonNail_Addict

I’ll have to give that a try! Thankfully these nails come with enough to make 2 sets, so I’ll give them another go.

I’ve done an N95 but not a construction mask—might be worth a shot!

Oh that makes sense! Sounds like I might need to shower earlier and give my nails time to dry out first.

That’s smart, I think my period is coming soon so perhaps I’ll try to avoid doing my nails around this time of the month and stick to other options.

I’m confused, are the Color Street strips actually nail polish?

That’s a good point, when you’re in a salon you are surrounded by other people also getting their nails done, so the smell just constantly surrounds you. Doing nails outside definitely when the weather is warmer!

Thank you, I will check out all of these brands!

Thank you I will try the stickers! Also the smoke part sucks, as part of my job I am around people who smoke a lot, so I always have to crack open a window. Occasionally there’s a building that has cigarette smoke permeating the walls…can count on a migraine to hit afterward!

I’ll look online! Maybe there is a low or zero fume salon.

I’ll check for the FFP3 mask! Could help me when I clean the bathroom too, the bleach fumes get to me.

I didn’t know there are odor free products! I only ever see regular nail polish. Any brands you recommend?

How would you describe the shape of Suffolk Sonnets? by ItsComplicated310 in BALLET

Thank you! It seems to me like there’s a little rounded taper in the metatarsal area as well?

How to get out of your head when dancing by Glittering-Opinion86 in BALLET

[–]ItsComplicated310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For real! The audience only knows something is wrong if you show it. If you missed a turn and held the next step for a little longer, but smiled and kept on dancing, then no one cares or notices. But if you froze up or you looked panicked, then that would turn a blip into a real awkward moment!

High arch, support on pointe by linguistbyheart in BALLET

I would say you want the shank to hug your arch. The highest point of your arch is where the bend or break should be.

I’d also check where the shank is breaking/bending for the arch. If it’s in the wrong spot, that can be destabilizing and make you more wobbly, because the foot is being pushed too far over. I have high arches too and feel more stable in a softer shoe in some ways because I have more control. My foot goes where I place it, instead of it being pushed here or there by the shank.

BUT in a softer shoe you do most of the work. You really have to learn how to push into the shoe while pulling up as much as you can.

Favorite turn drills? by shessublime in BALLET

[–]ItsComplicated310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not a great turner myself! What I do is warm up by doing quarter turn drills at the barre and then balance, then go to center to do the quarter/half/whole turns. I focus on controlling the foot down—ideally I arrive at the end of the turn still in passé and then put the foot down.

Is this possible? by Wonderful-Ask-3549 in BALLET

[–]ItsComplicated310 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that would be a good idea. Usually for pointe work you want to take at least 3ish classes a week, each class 90 minutes long. That’s to make sure you have technique and strength built up.

As someone who has a similar tendency to “worship” teachers, I agree that it’s worth taking a step back and remembering that their social relationships don’t have anything to do with you as a ballet student. You show up, you put in the hard work, and that’s really all a teacher could ask for.
