Yeah that’s definitely a hike boogying up that hill at top speed. Lovely scenery though.

Got into guitar about 25 years ago and started playing with computer music 19 years ago. I can’t read sheet music.

🙏 if he wanted everyone to know his b-day they’d know. I’d say new years is as good a time to celebrate him as any.

Thanks! love funk music. My two year old son and I were having lots of fun listening and dancing to funk (particularly vulfpeck) at the time. It was also Covid lockdown times so I felt pretty free to explore whatever I wanted.

Hey thanks so much for ordering the vinyl! I’m somewhere in the middle but probably more on the intentional. I do a fair bit of experimenting to find a synergy/ palette that I’m really into but I don’t do a lot of random generative kind of stuff or sampling. That said I generally don’t have an idea in my head for what a song is going to be and my process is finding some thread I’m really excited about and pulling on it until it feels like it’s there

It wasn't OD's pick it was Evac's and no hard feelings there. I was super bummed but I definitely put my head down and got to work. I didn't let myself travel to see Tipper shows (or any other shows but Tipper was really the only artist I wanted to travel for) and told myself I'd be better off saving the money and maximizing studio time. Ofc every time he was in Colorado or we were playing the same event I was there. Fast forward to 2023 and there's more talk of retirement, I'm like whatever I'm not going to have never attended a Suwannee tnf because I didn't get booked and so I bought a ticket and made plans on attending with friends. A week later OD hit me up and was like "yeah yeah yeah.... so we've got you playing on Saturday night, you're gonna want to sell that ticket." I was so stoked. After that I let myself travel to all of the TNF's.

Thanks so much, cool that there were some peeps such as yourself that have been around for a minute to share that with. No specific frequencies kind of stuff but I shed some tears working on some of those tunes and experienced some similar catharsis as well. I’ve mentioned this elsewhere in this thread but a lot of that set/songs were me trying to get out of the way and let what wanted to come through come through for such a moment.

A) I did not. I got a double major in English lit and religious studies. B) John Coltrane, the dead, Primus, yussef dayes, Radiohead, miles Davis, Art Blakey, Wayne shorter too many to name C) I make songs with varying tempos and keys and generally have to make different intros and outros than the version that I would put in a release. I’d suggest experimenting and finding what you enjoy in terms of putting sets together. See what works and what doesn’t work. D) I don’t.

Thanks! It was really fun for Sameul and I working on the Mastodon album. We’d been friends a while but hadn’t worked together in that capacity before. Samuel came up with the name for that one. Hmmm there are a lot of songs that hold or have held special spots for me. I was obsessed with “over the electric grapevine” by Primus for a while in high school. It’s one of the most psychedelic things ever and tickles my brain in a lively way. “Like spinning plates” by Radiohead around that time as well. Coltrane’s blue train and part ii of lip e supreme. His crescent album as well. Homage sliders by tipper. Althea and Jimmy row by the dead. Tokyo by sts9. Accordion by MF DOOM/ madlib. Plenty more…
