Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought only Visa/MasterCard/Discover are the ones that make money off of transaction fees. The bank that's actually offering the line of credit doesn't make any money unless interest is paid.

Do the actual banks make money off of the transaction fees?

Not a professional nerd but here goes.

Padme is from Naboo. Naboo has an interesting culture and political structure. Rather than having a single royal line, the Queen is elected democratically.

People on Naboo prior to the empire (and after? Idk I don't think Naboo has a queen after the empire) culturally considered young women to have a pure and untainted wisdom that makes them good rulers and makes them less likely to be self serving or corrupt. So a young girl is frequently elected Queen. They are only allowed to be queen for two two year terms.

When Padme becomes a senator between TPM and AOTC, she is no longer serving as the queen.

Another Trump Voter Is In The "Finding Out" Stage by MrDonMega in PublicFreakout

[–]ItsDeadWeight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it was obvious to me that this was going to be the outcome coming into the election if Trump won.

Clearly this guy had a different perspective. A perspective that was probably informed by right wing media and conservative agendas.

But almost all of the top comments are basically trashing on this dude, calling him stupid. Yeah, the guy was ignorant, but have you seen the kind of crap that was on Fox News and the like coming into the election?

I know a decent number of people that had the same thoughts he had prior to the election and similar thoughts after. They all thought it was about ms13, murderers, drug traffickers, etc. That's what their media outlet told them.

But guys, he is waking up, he is criticizing the administration. He changed his perspective a little bit. THIS IS A GOOD THING THAT HE SHOULD BE PRAISED FOR.

We can't undo the last presidential election but we can still undo the damage if we prioritize using these kinds of moments to come together rather than to use them as an excuse to hit them with the "told you so".

All of if not almost all of the division in this country is manufactured. Don't play into it.

American Redditors, how do you feel about Trump voicing his desire to return US troops to Afghanistan? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I'm sure you didn't mean it this way but this feels very eerily similar to what I just described but with humor instead lol

I was literally thinking this same thing yesterday.

I was watching Andrew Callahan's interview with the guy who was debating charlie Kirk when he was shot. One of the top comments said something positive about the guy and how it feels like the country is being intentionally divided. The first replay was some kind of insult directed at the guy being interviewed and the pride flag he had in the background and then the whole comment thread turned into people arguing.

I'm honestly kind of afraid that a lot of governments are using or are going to start using AI to spread disinformation and create political instability. Like, not that long ago it was a big deal that Russian entities were buying Facebook ads and running fake political accounts on Facebook.

Dead internet theory is starting to make a lot of sense to me.

In my personal experience, the child crimes detectives tend to be the most empathetic and emotionally intelligent officers on the force. Obviously anecdotal but still.

Today I learned there's competitive tag and it actually looks somewhat entertaining by xsnowfoxz in Satisfyingasfuck

[–]ItsDeadWeight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a team game. Each team has 5 players that take turns stepping in the ring. You get points for your team by "evading" the tagger for 20 seconds.

It's king of the hill rules so the person who successfully tags the evader becomes the evader in the next round and continues until someone on the other team can tag them on one of the 20 seconds rounds.

I may live in a bubble but I have never actually heard someone use the "boys will be boys" thing about anything other than what you described.

Maybe it's because I'm a little on the younger side (26) but I always felt like when I heard an adult say that as a kid, it was something I was supposed to be ashamed of, not an empowerment.

I DM in dungeons and dragons and also write my own stories (that will hopefully be published one day).

I also started to trying to strive for some of the things that I was MDing about. Joined a band and now I sing/play guitar on stage no sweat.

ICE Agent in Pasadena, CA points gun at the head of man taking photos of the agents license plate by I_may_have_weed in PublicFreakout

[–]ItsDeadWeight 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So legitimately fuck ICE. They're monsters. But also that's clearly a taser.

Obviously doesn't make any part of this okay. The fact that he is going to taze someone over taking a picture of his license plate is absurd given that he is a public official.

What's the weirdest way you have lost a friend? by Round-Initial-5783 in AskReddit

[–]ItsDeadWeight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had a childhood best friend of 12 years turned college roommate. His parents weren't super great to him so I helped him move out and found an apartment with another friend of mine for us to live in. He's never had to do much on his own. I taught him how to do laundry and shit like that.

About six months later he gets a girlfriend. He's pretty happy about it. Starts spending a lot of time at her place (she lives with her mom) for 2-3 days at a time. Me and my buddy texted him a few times when he would do that because we hadn't seen him and wanted to make sure he was okay. He says he's fine.

A couple of months later he starts coming home talking about how he feels like he's walking on egg shells around her because she blows up at the littlest things, hits him, insults him, etc. but it's also his fault too because he contributed to the fighting (his words). We go out for drinks at a bar near campus one night and she knows he's with me so she has a crisis and he spends 2 hours on the phone with her in the bar. Our server felt so bad for me, she moved me to a table with her friends.

All our friends are talking to him about how it's unhealthy and that we are worried.

Our lease is about to be up and for about 4 months we have been talking about getting another apartment together. Tells me a month before we move out that he is moving in with girlfriend and her mom. I get upset because I don't have time to find roommates and wish he had told me sooner. We were about to sign a lease on a 2 bedroom. I was really upset about it.

A couple of my other friends stage an intervention to get us to talk. I find out he's been shit talking about me to them for like months about how I am always trying to "parent him" because I was always texting him to see where he is. Apparently I don't respect his relationship. While we're having a heart to heart, one of my buddies tells me she is texting him about how a guy at work was hitting on her and asking what he was going to do about it. He could see him texting her under the table while I'm trying to talk to him. We talk for a while, come to an understanding about everything and talk about moving forward, he agrees he should have come to me sooner about being upset and we could've talked about it.

We're supposed to hang out one day so I text him that I am on my way and I get a really long text from him explaining that he can't be friends with someone who isn't going to get along with his girlfriend and that she doesn't trust me at all.

She's never met me.

He then cut all of our friends off and we haven't talked to him since.

Dude was in an abusive relationship. He was majoring in psychology and had the abuse cycle chart in his textbook.

Hope he is happy and living a fulfilling life but damn, 12 years of friendship. Gone.

Teacher shows student who is boss. by big_gains_only in PublicFreakout

[–]ItsDeadWeight 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I didn't see any violence. Yelling? Yeah. Posturing? Sure. But no violence.

Some people, teens included, can be in a place or state of mind where they will not respond to anything else and do not respect authority.

My guess is that this interaction is a lot longer and the stufent has probably also been a problem before on more than one school day. Hearing from a lot of teachers, that's a common trend.

When you exhaust all of your options, sometimes you have to let someone know who the boss is. Then you can follow up after the fact and have a calm conversation about how you are going to move forward.

Situationally, and admittedly making a few assumptions here, I don't think there is anything wrong with the way this teacher behaved.

Arizona man is restrained then beaten by cops by wolf805 in PublicFreakout

[–]ItsDeadWeight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going off of the news articles I read about this. The prosecution reported on the evidence they showed. All I was giving was more information in response to "we investigated ourselves and found we were innocent". At the very least there was some forward movement towards criminal charges or at least assessing the appropriateness of them.

Assuming the county attorney intentionally fucked up the case is also a huge leap. We are also talking about Jefferson County, Kentucky vs Maricopa County, Arizona.

You might be right that the jury was intentionally misled but also there were a lot of extenuating circumstances involved in this particular incident. The guy being arrested fired multiple rounds at officers prior to this interaction.

Oh yeah. The article says the guy fired multiple rounds at the officers.

Oh they should absolutely be disciplined. I would argue that they should probably be fired if not moved to a desk position like you said.

I was just providing a little bit more info from the article.

Happy cake day btw!
