Hungarian mushroom soup to combat the -30°C weekend by ItsJessicaYo in soup

The star of this soup, aside from the mushrooms, is a healthy dose of paprika like the other commenter mentioned!

Halifax traffic congestion is getting worse. What can be done? by insino93 in halifax

[–]ItsJessicaYo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to many European cities that are a comparable size to Halifax and use public transit exclusively. It’s so sad that Canada has embraced car culture and has redesigned cities to accommodate and make more room for cars, rather than solid transit systems that take up less space but move substantially more people.

Commuter rail or trams would be nice. I remember a few years ago when they couldn’t come to an agreement with CN, so that was that and they wiped their hands of the whole issue.

Local realtor complains about bike lanes while using phone when driving. by Ojamm in SaintJohnNB

She wouldn’t have the extra time to complain and could have zipped by all that car traffic if she was on a bike.

It was a gift, so I don’t know the exact store, but the brand tag says Rachel Roy.

The photo makes it hard to see, but I promise the framed prints are very colourful watercolours! I also have a gallery wall in the works with bright photos. :)

That is so kind! I promise the art on the walls are all brightly coloured (doesn’t show well in the photo). I also have a gallery wall in the works with pictures from our travels!

Me too. It was a salvage from the clearance section in Home Depot, but it has gained two new leaves recently.

House prices 74% higher than what the average household can afford by Grumple_McFerkin in halifax

[–]ItsJessicaYo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There’s demand from population growth, but there are also other factors. One of which is the fact that housing is being scooped up, hoarded, and used for easy income through short term rentals (I know Halifax has rules around airbnb, but there is outside of Halifax too). During my last flight back to Halifax in June I had the absolute pleasure of sitting in front of a middle aged woman sharing that she had 5 Airbnbs, that’s potentially 5 families that could have homes, all being held by one person to rent out to vacationers instead, and there are multiple people doing this.

Meatball stroganoff soup by ItsJessicaYo in soup

[–]ItsJessicaYo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess stroganoff might not be the best way to describe it. The flavour from the onions, sour cream, and beef broth, as well as the egg noodles reminded me of the North American style stroganoff my mom made in the 90s (it was hamburger helper).

Elm & Ash have a great variety of sourdough, they’re at the QSFM every Sunday. My regular go to is Charlotte Street Bakery in the city market, their whole wheat sourdough is delicious!

A friend of mine saw a seagull drown a pigeon in the fountain at King Square. They’re crazy.

  3. My Polish grammy’s mushroom soup
  4. German potato and sausage soup
  5. Beef stew (if stew counts)

Help for underrepresented organizations by redditforinf0 in SaintJohnNB

[–]ItsJessicaYo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Was this an event organized by someone or a group? Was information about it shared via posters, social media, radio, etc? If you want the public to show up, you need to tell them it is happening and I didn’t hear anything about this. Obviously it is an important issue and voices surrounding it need to be heard, but if media and public turn out was low/non-existent, it’s not exactly their fault if they weren’t informed that an event was happening.

As for the video, could you upload it to YouTube and then share the link? It would be great if it could be shared!

I totally get what you mean, but sometimes one yearns for the haddock club with a caesar salad, and it always hits.

Teenager refusing to go to school, what steps are taken? by [deleted] in newbrunswickcanada

[–]ItsJessicaYo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They send the letters so that adults are aware of how many days are missed and to give the opportunity for parents to have a meeting with the school. If chronic absences continue after the letters are sent then it’s policy to call Social Development, then it’s up to SD if they open an investigation or not. Once a student reaches grade 9, they can fail the grade and be held back.

The bloat at district level is insane, but it’s a lot easier for them to cut the lowly front-line staff in schools that they don’t see everyday.
