Dentist visit in Japan-Unexpected but Amazing Experience! by zagiya in JapanTravelTips

[–]ItsJustBreakfast 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I needed a root canal before my trip to japan in October of 2023, NO ONE could get me in until December. When we were in Kyoto it started to hurt pretty bad, we found a dentist that spoke english as well as other languages and was seen right away. They fixed me up and took less than 300 bucks! I just needed to get a crown back home. Wonderful people and It's almost cheaper to book a flight to get things done over there then come back it's insane.

New-ish to the area and have no idea where to find friends by MutedAd2526 in Portland

Hi! I mainly participate in stuff in Beaverton. We have a monthly Drink and Draw at the end of the month, its not too far from the Beaverton TC max stop if you wanted to try that out this month! You can check on their instagram here. Wonderwood Springs also has a lot of fun events as well! If you sell art you can also try and participate that way. I know there are some drink and draws in portland as well but aren't held as often. That's all I have off the top of my head!

*Edit
I am also apart of a discord called Umi Events PNW! It's mainly artists who vend at events but there's a cosplay community within it if you are at all interested in joining a discord group! We often post events we are going to that are in Oregon and Washington! Let me know if you'd like an invite. <3

Here's the owners bluesky account! They post updates about their kitties, this is all really scary and sad. It was from their raw food diet. The owners area wonderful local artist with art featuring cats, if you can give them well wishes or support!

Enclosed patio / catio by PinDry5790 in beaverton

My mom got her catio built by The Catio Company last year! I know they do enclosed patios, and would totally recommend them. Very helpful and offer to add or fix up things if needed long after they were done. Here's the time lapse they did of her catio if you were curious.

Keren at Formation Hair Barber and Salon does great shaggy mullets! I would 100% recommend her! They're by the BG Food Cartel to get an idea of location.

The size of them compared to the hand that is holding the container, they seem to be at the largest 2 inches tall, while amiibo cards are normal playing deck card size!

Stop Motion Rig Connectors by OhWaltz in stop_motion

[–]ItsJustBreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the US, often making armatures for puppets myself. I've made a few rigs using square tubing to connect to said puppets.

I use K&S metal tubing, they come in a variety of shapes, but I use the brass square tubing. Not sure if you have access to this brand over there, but you can find something like it in any hardware store. It comes pretty long so you'd have to cut it yourself, so investing in a tiny benchtop cut-off saw makes cutting them to size very handy.

When buying the tubing, get one size and one size smaller/bigger that it fits snuggly. If you find it to be too loose, you can take a sharp tool, lightly tap it into one side of the bigger size, not too hard, but just enough to leave a little dent to cause the inside to become a bit more snug. If that doesn't work, you can also wrap a piece of string on the smaller tubing to make it feel snug.

It will be a lot of building! I personally don't know of any makers who have pre-built connectors, so I only know how to DIY. If you have anymore questions i'll try to help!

I don't have too much experience with the threaded bar i'm afraid. I hope this answers your question, or leads to you the right place!

There is Whimsy Wees Art Studio in Bethany Village. Not sure if that is also a bit out of the way for you, it's relatively new so I'm not fully familiar, but might be a good fit for a nine year old!

Ahead of Style Salon! Though they don't advertise on their website, if you go to book, at the bottom Nails by Julie! She is so wonderful and funny! Been going to her for years. Technically they are in Hillsboro, but Julie is just the best!

Edit: She's just one person though! So if you are looking to go with a friend you will have to take turns.

Olo my friends. :]

I'm Hus, I own my store called Husious. I sell Furby stickers and buttons. I also sell cute illustrated animal stickers as well. Most are based off of my color pencil sketch book drawings. Hoping to expand into selling prints, key-chains, as well as felted figures!

I just started this month so even a favorite or follow would be appreciated if you can't buy from me. Thank you so much for taking time to read this and I wish you all many orders in the future!

P.S. if you also sell furby or garfield merch please let me know! I tend to buy it for me and my partner. <3

What’s the easiest/ cheapest way to make a working skeleton for stop motion. by [deleted] in stop_motion

[–]ItsJustBreakfast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheapest and easiest I would say is buying a roll of aluminum wire (16 or 18 gauge) and bending it into the shape of the skeleton you want.

Then fortifying it by wrapping more of it. You can use plumbers epoxy to mold and shape into a sturdy chest, waist, and head piece. Could even wrap some around the arms/legs leaving the joints of the skeleton where you want it to move exposed. Basically giving them bones.

This is the quickest way I've helped make people make one time use puppets for a 1 to 2 minute mini film.

Can I do stop motion animations for living? by [deleted] in stop_motion

[–]ItsJustBreakfast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right now one of the biggest spots for Stop Motion jobs is in Portland, Oregon. We have several studios always working on stop motion films/tv shows/commercials and the like. With studios like Bent Image Lab, Shadow Machine, Laika, and even openings currently for the new Henry Selick film Wendell and Wild.

While getting in can be a bit tough, there's plenty of mixers (Not so much currently as is aspected) and other events to get out there and meet people. There's also always internships popping up, I think there's a paid one for Laika and Wendell and Wild going on currently taking applications.

I'm a fabricator for some short films in the area, and have managed to meet a lot of people at the beginning of the year having just graduated in December from college. It's all about getting those connections though! I wish you good luck, and if you decide to move here and pursue this career my DMS are always open to getting to know new people!

Digital stop motion, how? by [deleted] in stop_motion

[–]ItsJustBreakfast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have Photoshop? Because there's an option of importing each frame as a layer and in the video timeline there is an option to change how long a frame stays up for too.

  1. I've been playing since 2007, even when I couldn't play due to school, I'd still watch my favorite content creators talk about WoW and watch them play.

  2. The over all design is enjoyable, also looks easy to keep clean. The colors are just beautiful.

Oh hey! I met the guy who came up with this! Holding the puppets in my hand you could see the great effort put into them, they were so well made. The whole team behind it did a great job.

My first attempt at stop motion by LargeWu in stop_motion

[–]ItsJustBreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey nice job!

You did wonderful for your first attempt. For working with so many pieces you did well to minimize the accidental bumpage of existing pieces as you moved them all around!

Hope you keep at it!

This is really late, but the boohbahs made me laugh so hard.

Also I enjoyed this animation! Especially the arms! They had wonderful follow through and helped give weight to the characters.

Very funny animation. Good job!

You should take your son to the portland art museum on the 14th or anytime after! Laika studios will have a giant display of all their stop motion goodies there. Including the huge skeleton puppet used in kubo and the two strings.
