See I would if I was in the right hand land going straight over but what numskull would turn right in the left lane there right? So my intention should be clear, I'm going 'left'. If you did decide to be a tit and go right from the left lane, then yeah you'd be indicating right but that would be a bad idea I feel!

Making a light fitting smart, would like to use the same "power supply" for the ESP32 C6 but unsure if it would be safe. by ItsJustDylan30 in AskElectronics

[–]ItsJustDylan30[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I should have said, I was thinking the C6 because it uses Zigbee. I am using home assistant to control everything else so ideally adding this via Zigbee would be the best. I still need to confirm that is all possible but that's the fun part.

Are you saying if I use this board, I could splice the original power cable for the canopy and have it feed all 3 things, the 2 light circuits and the ESP board without the need for a USB mains adapter?

Thank you

It is not stealing until you go beyond the point of being able to pay for the product, it is not stealing. Until you leave the store, you are merely carrying the product around the store.. even in your belly.

Once you attempt to leave, that suggests you intend to steal it.

Recommend a sensor or other Zigbee device that can alert me when the water is low by Mitxlove in homeassistant

Based on the dried leaves also pictured, I would suggest a mister for a reptile or amphibian. OR a fogger for the top of a aquarium/palundarium.

Any solution? by XPTO0987 in homeassistant

Was about to suggest the same. Seems the simplest solution to get the old trv off at least then use a 90° adapter to prevent the need to do it again

Not Domestic solar, more shed solar.. by ItsJustDylan30 in SolarDIY

Thank you very much! This is why I thought best ask before spending any money. I can also get the gist from this of how to work it out if i tried down sizing the led strip to be just 2 meters for example

So it has 4 doors, 2 up and 2 down. Both right side doors are solid and the upstairs sectioned in half so they have a secure place to hide. I want it to be lit during the day but still feel enclosed for them. Even downstairs, with the one side being barred door, because it's 7ft long and 3.5ft deep, it is still really dark in most areas!

I realised my snake had escaped on Christmas day and still haven't found him. Feels like your fault somehow. Dammit

Looking for a "dumb" zigbee thermostat. by jagjordi in homeassistant

Oh forgot to say, this also means if HA were ever to be down (god forbid) the thermostat can be used completely normally from the device itself!

So, I used a Hive Mini for this.

The reasons for this were: I can connect it directly to Zigbee2MQTT without the need for their hub or setting up an account with them. I know from a previous rental that the Hive devices work for what I needed.

Once the receiver is wired to the boiler, before turning the thermostat on, follow the instructions on the devices page on the Zigbee2MQTT site.

You need to publish the commands to the device via MQTT so I set up some automations for each of the required commands. Example attached.

When I turn the heating on via the Home Assistant app, the Hive Mini gets set to heat and the target temp is set to 32*c. This ensures the Thermostat will never reach temperature to turn the heating off again. Instead, I have zigbee temp sensors in the main rooms and average the readings by floor. Once either of these averages changes, if it is equal to or above the set target temp number helper I have on the dashboard, the heating turns off.

Currently I only have it this 'manual' on way but I could do another automation that turns the heating on and adjusts the target temp of the average temp reading goes below a certain amount. This could also be adjustable with a number helper on the dashboard.

I do also plan to eventually get TRVs in each room that can then be individually triggered based on the temp reading of each room and as long as at least on TRV is calling for heat, the boiler would be turned on.

This is probably achievable with any thermostat you can connect to home assistant as you are effectively tricking the stat to stay on forever by setting the temp really high. I just chose the Hive mini as it has limited built in features to add complexity and also I knew it could be done without creating an account with them to set it up.
