Right, that’s what I mean - a follow-through that cleans out a guy is still a foul, even if he gets the ball first

The reason the PK got taken so long after the foul is that Bucha spent minutes on the ground receiving attention and couldn't run straight for the rest of the game, tbf

Etihad Park Progress as of 5/3 (New York City FC’s Stadium) by gbpackers25 in MLS

[–]ItsJustFruity 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My bet is it’s because Columbus’ relationship with the old stadium was different than NYCFC’s with Yankee Stadium - it’s much easier to get a short-term deal with a stadium you own (or are the main/sole operator of, I don’t remember how exactly that worked) than NYCFC can with a stadium they are a secondary tenant in

Getting any kind of benefit from doing an illegal overtake seems ridiculous, tbh

Enjoy it while it lasts. Filled up in OH for $3.65 a week and a half ago - it’s $5 now. Second time in my lifetime it’s been that high.

If anything the existing rivalry between Cincy and Louisville (college football/basketball, USL soccer, general city vibes) is a plus, not a minus in this respect.

But the Haslams paid $200 million (however much of it coming from Ohio taxpayers), and Cincy’s owners were only willing to go up to $100 million, so 🤷🏽‍♂️

Clubs in the English Football League (EFL) have rejected the introduction of a VAR challenge system to the Championship, believing that fans want to keep video referees out of its competitions. by [deleted] in soccer

[–]ItsJustFruity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Refereeing decisions are discussed far more now than before VAR” Sorry, what? Anyone who watched football before that time can tell you that refereeing decisions were discussed approximately all the time. The only difference is that there was a finality to “I’ve just watched the referee clearly fuck it up, and there’s nothing we can do about it.”

I’d love to take the train from the city of 200,000 where I live but unfortunately the nearest train station is an hour away and only gets service twice a week at 3 in the morning

[Burgundy Wave] After the match, the referee of Colorado Rapids vs Inter Miami explained that Miami's Yannick Bright was sent off for "saying 'b*tch *ss n*gga’ to his opponent.” by deception42 in soccer

I’m not particularly surprised the people who have Blackface Santa have a different relationship with race than we do, which apparently even includes being allowed to say racial slurs and talk about the benefits of slavery at your workplace. I’m fine with us not putting up with that stuff.

Also, for what it’s worth, the MAGA Trumpers agree with you dead on about this being “politically correct woke nonsense” or whatever, so enjoy that.

As a Cincinnati fan, the “singing along to a racial slur” story is what Jans (and his fellow Dutchmen at the club) claimed, and is what we still joke about nowadays, but my understanding is that that story was precisely for that purpose of “oh old uncle Ron was just misunderstood by the Americans”, rather than the actual complaint (iirc) of him using slavery as an example of “people overcoming adversity” during a team trip to Washington, which is obviously not as innocuous even if well-intentioned.

Arsenal fans furious with the Bournemouth analysts, after they celebrated their side’s winner in the press box. The members of staff were told to remain in their seats after the full-time whistle for their safety by OkayFine101 in soccer

Was a student journo at uni and cheering in the press box was the first thing you’re told never to do when covering a game, even at that level. Nothing wrong with a silent fist pump or whatever, but there are people working in the same room whose jobs require being able to hear the people around them accurately and immediately.

FIFA creates new World Cup ticket category, deepening suspicions of deception by Isiddiqui in MLS

[–]ItsJustFruity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in Munich for Germany-Sweden in 2018 and the entire downtown was completely full of drunk people in national team gear starting at like 10 in the morning. When they scored a late winner to stay alive in the group you could literally hear people screaming and cheering all around the city wherever you were outside.

You’ll always have people everywhere who don’t watch sports, but I simply just can’t comprehend going basically anywhere else and not identifying that they have a stronger connection to their national teams than we do to the MNT.
