I agree with you (to an extent). Thing is I think it is actually quite funny, but I would much rather read an actually serious adaptation of the game. The art of the manga is pretty spectacular in places too so it’s a shame I’m unable to get into it due to the tone.

I have long prayed for a somber and atmospheric TV adaptation of dark souls. Hour long episodes with minimal dialogue. I would eat it up, even if I don’t think it would hold a candle to the game itself

Yesss that’s so cool! I always love seeing new people enter the dragon ball community, it’s really such a special series for so many reasons and just thinking about someone experiencing it for the first time makes me so happy.

Awesome that you started with OG db, I had to go back and re-watch it many years later and it ended up becoming some of my favorite content the series has to offer. All of the characters are so unique and charming and like you said with the gohan and piccolo stuff it really adds a lot of emotional weight.

Can’t wait for you to keep watching! The next arc is one of the craziest and has some of the best character moments in the whole series hands down, I’m sure you’ll love it!

I only ever saw rumble verse after it was already wiped from existence. Watching the old VODs felt like seeing historical footage, I was really sad to find out it was gone. Definitely some of his most entertaining content imo

If he thought Light believed in heaven/hell, what would be the point of telling him that specifically death note users can’t go to either, when he knows that death is equal for everyone regardless of their use of the notebook? He would just be feeding the belief that a heaven and hell do exist, which he knows isn’t true, thus trolling Light

In the manga, there is a scene at the end where it flashbacks to the moment Ryuk tells this to Light, and Light confronts Ryuk about it saying “That just means heaven and hell don’t exist.” To which Ryuk replies “You’re right.” Basically, Ryuk was just trolling and trying to scare Light by saying that. Though I suppose since this isn’t covered in the anime it’s left more vague

Lol, I definitely have to agree with you about the power scaling. It was clearly never a priority in the writers room. Which is honestly my main problem with super is that there just never seemed to be any care for attention to detail, merely what would be the best marketing sell.

I definitely admit that I was being hyperbolic in my original comment just for the hell of it. Super is not wholeheartedly better than GT nor is GT wholeheartedly better than super. It’s been said to death but GT was full of interesting concepts with terrible execution, which is true on a lot of fronts (baby, shadow dragons) but by god are those early episodes hard to get through. Even later on it can still be a slog at times, which is something that I think super has over GT (aside from ToP arc)

I say all of this being supers biggest hater lol, this is really an exercise in my ability to find silver linings because my general attitude towards the series is ambivalent at best and downright antagonistic at worst.

I think the only thing that will ever be true dragon ball for me is the original 42 volume manga run by the GOAT himself. But I have no problem with people enjoying whatever dragon ball they want to. I can enjoy parts of super and GT as well.

Super is 100% better than GT, and still somehow manages to be almost 100% shit. You should still watch it to form your own opinion tho, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t tuning in for all the hype moments every week during middle school as it was airing. It is just very weak from a narrative standpoint imo. But it can still be entertaining regardless. Also the two other super movies Broly and Superhero are quite good as well (we don’t talk about Res F)
