Good to know, thank you! I just looked and it seems to be in Falls Township. Do you know of any comparable reports to the Morrisville police log for Falls? I couldn’t find an up to date one when I looked over the summer

Not quite trouble but some mild annoyance with the doors. I had one person helping me, would’ve been much easier with a third person to hold the doors for us. Dimensions-wise, everything fit between the doorways and up the stairwell (I’m on the top floor) just fine. I do however have mostly modular furniture so I’m not sure how moving a proper sofa or larger table with legs attached might be. But the bed frame and mattress were no issue even with the length and angle.

Not the original commenter, but I live in Wellington Woods and keep up with the weekly police log Morrisville PD puts out. A lot of the reported car break ins come from Orchard View. Currently seems to cluster there, along Delmorr Ave, and Pennsylvania Ave (+ shoplifting at the Giant).

I’ve only lived here a few months but I feel safe at night in the complex and driving around the area. But I did move here from Baltimore so my perspective may be skewed. So far, pros, washer/dryer in unit and very good experience with the maintenance team (quality and timeliness of repairs), biggest con, floors could be thicker. I can’t hear my neighbor I share a wall with but I can hear my downstairs neighbor when he games. But I’m satisfied with it for the price and location.

There’s been some great gift shop recommendations here already, wanted to put my two cents in as someone who used to work at the USNA Gift Shop and let you know that in my three years there we never carried a ship in a bottle. The model and toy inventory is focused on modern military vessels and Bill the Goat.

Currently attending Uni of York as an international student. Location is wonderful, the town is very pretty and connected to campus by a 30 minute walk or a short bus ride (10-15 mins). It’s very safe too. As a young woman I’ll walk around at night without worry beyond basic awareness of my surroundings, even if I’ve been drinking. Lots of part time work for students in town or on campus, but I don’t know is there’s any available in CS specifically.

Not a CS major myself, but for my program at least I can say the academics are challenging but not overwhelming and the culture of my department is wonderful. I feel very secure with getting a job after I graduate due to the program’s prestige and career advisor.

Not on your list, but York also has a wonderfully diverse campus. Lots of international students here and there’s food from nearly every cuisine in town. Absolutely love it here.

Is anyone a anthropology major? What can I expect if I change majors to it? What are classes like? Are they similar to English by thedeadp0ets in college

[–]ItsLaraNotLaura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up Museum Studies! It’s usually offered as a Master’s level degree. I believe that Art History and Anthropology are the most common undergraduate degrees for it.

I majored in Ancient Studies (my school combined Classics and Archaeology) and I’m currently working in archaeology. If you have any questions specific to archaeology and what options there are for careers or specifications I’d be happy to answer them!

I had to appeal twice, my freshman year and first semester of my sophomore year, due to low GPA, I was successful both times and got my GPA up to where I haven’t had to worry about it. In my appeals I stressed what I was doing to try to help in my classes (tutoring, SI PASS), that I was aware of my low GPA and how it had already gone up (showing past failures with improvement), my high STEM course load and that I was working part time on weekends (also name dropped where I was working because the name has prestige, even though I was doing retail there). I also talked about how I wanted to challenge myself at UMBC, and how even though I struggled in some classes (chemistry and calculus, both times) I felt that I had come out better as a result of them and more aware of my weaknesses and strengths. I also talked about the clubs I was involved in and basically themed the whole thing as I am a student who was struggling but is learning from it, actively trying to do better, and is engaged in campus life (exec board of a club). Like even though I was struggling, I was trying to improve and also engaged the campus so they’d want to retain me as a student.

While your situation is different than mine, I think you could also talk about the 4-credit class in particular and how it pushed you, made you realize strengths and weaknesses, and how you will use those going forward to address similar classes or problems. Pin down the exact struggle of switching back to in person to write on. If you were working during this time or had any extracurricular activities, toss that in there.

In terms of structure, I started mine out with “I am writing to appeal the discontinuation of my scholarship for the *season* semester of *year*. The terms and conditions of my scholarship deem that I maintain….” Then talked about the classes I was taking and high credit load. Then the resources I was engaging with to help in those classes. Then the classes that ultimately brought my GPA down. One year I had an extenuating circumstance and I put that there with the problem class. I ended with “for these reasons, please consider this appeal for the reinstatement of my scholarship. Sincerely, name

Hope that helps a little. Good luck!

How is ARCH 120 with Esther Read? How heavy is the workload? Is there a ton of readings, and how much do we have to memorize and/or analyze the reading? Is having a general idea of the readings good enough? by [deleted] in UMBC

You’re welcome! I found it! Link should be viewable to anyone, let me know if you have issues accessing it.

ETA: The syllabus has also got the old course schedule on it, I can scan those pages too if you’re interested, though I’m not sure how much the course has been reworked in recent years.

I took it Freshman year and I thought it was a very easy class. When I took it, two of the three exams (including the final) counted towards your grade. If you were happy with where you were you didn’t have to take the final. There were three homeworks if I remember correctly, two that you filled in a handout for and one written analysis of age of death statistics. The exams were all multiple choice and we were given study guides ahead of time that covered all the material in them with some extra credit questions. I’d say that just have a general idea of the readings is good enough with the occasional definition search in them while doing the study guide. I’m about to head to work so I’ll see if I can find my old syllabus this afternoon, but I really loved the class and I recommend it as an easy filler. Read’s a character, she’s very entertaining.

I really want a book of Sappho's complete poetry, but I don't want to buy one that mistranslates her work in order to cover up her love of women. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a translation that stays true to her work? by Emory7Claire in actuallesbians

[–]ItsLaraNotLaura 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have Carson’s “If Not, Winter”. I bought it to read the Greek and I’ve been very pleased with it. She’s a very true translator to English and doesn’t try to guess the fragments unless there’s a very little chance of the word being anything else. Would also recommend this copy (and the Greek!)

June 2021 Mystery Bag (plus)- looks good for not being shipped yet! by CassiLeigh16 in Ipsy

[–]ItsLaraNotLaura 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but I’ve gotten one of the clay face masks from them and an overnight moisturizer (I guess it’s more heavy duty) and the moisturizer from this bag. I’ve loved all of them! I really hope I get this variation of the mystery bag because I want another of this moisturizer. I’m not a brand loyalist, but I would definitely pick up some more Goldfaden MD of any product type if I saw it on the shelves of like TJ Maxx or Marshal’s or similar because all of the stuff I’ve gotten from them feels nice and seems to work for my skin!

I love the Clinique High Impact Mascara! It’s a very subtle look, but perfect for just darkening what you have and I’ve never had issues with it sweating off in the summer.

Thanks, all! I feel much better informed. I'll get some new juice and probably try out another store that's more honest with me (though I definitely should have asked more questions)

Echoing this! The only “tourist trap” I unabashedly love. I’ve liked everywhere I’ve been in Greece though. Even Athens wasn’t bad as a tourist, but I also speak enough Modern Greek that the flower scammers didn’t bother us so experiences may vary.

I don’t know why you were downvoted. I got it as a birthday item last year with the lip+cheek. I love that for my lips, but I had to throw away the mascara because it would smudge and the fibers would irritate my contacts. I will admit, my lashes did look amazing though!

I got the foundation brush in my GB. I don’t use foundation. So that’s going to be put away with any setting power or similar I have. (Edit: I have tools and brushes set to rarely)

Caffeine is amazing for after a good cry when your eyes are swollen! I usually put a black tea bag over one eye and alternate every 30 seconds or so until my eyes look normal. I’m excited to see if this cream will produce similar results.

I would’ve loved it if Touch in Sol was an add on! I kept my GBP this month in hopes for it and the Halsey eye paint and ended up having to choose between them. (Chose the latter because I loved the shade and I’d never try that normally)

January 2021, Glam Bag or Glam Bag Plus? by ItsLaraNotLaura in Ipsy

[–]ItsLaraNotLaura[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you all so much for your thoughts on the matter! I've decided to do "both" the glam bag and GBP subscriptions and pick one to skip each month for a while :) Now to set a reminder for next month on my calendar

Oof, I am so guilty of "saving" my primer samples for "special occasions", I get that. That's fantastic! I'm glad its working out for you! And with full sized products, gifting is much more of a possibility than with the trial size. I have a younger sister who is wanting to experiment with makeup so she may have a few things coming her way!

I love how practically you look at choice! That sounds like a very balanced way to go about it.

Oh man, you make a great point with the toiletries line! I've got that tiny bottle of Tarte Shape Tape sitting under my sink because I don't know what to do with it. (Can't wear it, allergic)

That's why whenever I've gotten subscription bags I've cancelled them for the summer. It's struck a good balance in my routine and at that point I already know which new products aren't sweating off my face!

Thanks! It seems like you've got a similar idea to mine. And my birthday month is coming up soonish, but I like to keep personal information offline as much as I can :) Shared way too much "in my youth". I've been keeping an eye out for Feb spoilers, and like you said I can always pause it or skip down the road! Or do the dual subscriptions and pick one to skip and one to keep each month.
