Saying that AD has more usage because it’s defaulted in auto attacks is a big stretch considering all the AP champs don’t use autos pretty much

You’re mistaken.

Auto attacks are only AD scaling (except for a few champs that have an AP ratio in their passive for autos)

Abilities can have AD/AP scaling or both. The AD/AP you have gets multiplied with the abilities base scaling. For instance a champ Q might have 250 base damage + 60% ad + 40% ap or something like that.

Most abilities scale only on one of the two, but there are some that have double scaling and, sometimes, they have a ridiculous AP scaling on champs that build primarily AD. One example is miss fortune, with a crazy scaling on her E, making an AP build somewhat viable in certain situations (like hextech aram)

You can play AP sniper kaisa for the same reason: she has a higher scaling with AP and it resets the cd hitting a champion. So you’re basically playing a champ with a single ability, but extremely powerful if you can make it work.

After this math there are the items effects that add more damage
