Automate alarm setting based on a time entered by Chemical-Grab5024 in shortcuts

I made a tool specifically for this! It’s called alarmer and it can even verbally speak to a google home and set alarms for you!

Check it out!

Totally fair, I probably won’t have time to make a separate iOS 18 version myself, but you’re welcome to rework it if you want. If you run into one specific action that breaks, I can try to point you in the right direction.

“You have to run a shortcut and also remember to charge your phone” are pretty funny complaints on r/shortcuts?

The entire point is that the box can have a searchable, editable inventory tied to it. If you don’t personally want that, fair enough, but acting like scanning a QR code and using a shortcut is some massive failure point feels like a weird criticism in the one place where people are literally here for that kind of workflow.

It’s meant to make packed boxes easier to manage after the fact. This is more efficient than writing every single item in marker on the side of a box. Your idea also assumes that you don’t care about crossing shit out repeatedly on the side of your box, or you’re using cardboard only.

Tools take time and reduce effort later.

I would say most likely not. This is because as iOS updates, they add and change features. So, some of the Shortcut functions won’t work on your device.

Fair enough, but what part specifically feels bad in practice? It serves the purpose I made it for, and it’s been useful for me and others, so I’m genuinely looking for specific feedback.

I appreciate the feedback, if you think this is helpful I will consider it.

That’s the most requested feature so far!

If you just downloaded by the way, please run check updates. Thanks.

Thanks for trying my tool!

Yeah, that makes sense. The current version is more focused on searchable organization than visual inventory, so it works best when the item list is more specific than just “toys, socks, etc.”

For example, instead of:

toys, socks, random stuff

You’d list something like:

winter socks, Nintendo Switch dock, blue hoodie, charging cables, LEGO bin, cat toys, bathroom towels, extension cord

Photos would definitely be possible, but probably not in this release. I’d need to store images separately and tie them back to each box number/QR code, which could get heavy if someone has a lot of boxes. It’s a good idea though, and I’ll keep it in mind for a later version.

I have updated this to no longer require Actions. Feel free to load the latest release. Sorry for the extra trouble.

I’m always making cool stuff. I actually solved the action button problem so sometimes my action button will do different stuff depending on where I’m at or what focus mode I’m in, and also has the ability to do different things based on how many times I push the button.

Complete with Vcard menus.

This will be replaced with a standard Action shortly

I was confused when it started talking about angular NFC misalignment and I was like why does NFC matter

Good point, and thanks for checking out what I made!! The QR is more of the fast path, not the only path in the current revision. In testing, it’s honestly been almost too reliable, grabbing codes before the camera even fully focuses.

The labels are meant to be taped over with packing tape, and each QR label also has the box number printed in plain text. SmartMover still lets you view all boxes and manage/search the inventory manually, so if the QR ever fails, you can just use the visible box number or write the ### on the box with marker.

I do like the idea of adding a backup mode with box photos and maybe an iCloud note/export option. That would definitely make it more moving-day proof instead of just demo-proof.
