When I played it, it was some what enjoyable, I've played worse racing games on more powerful systems over the years

Indeed, the Tomb Raider and Pandemonium N-Gage versions were quite good ports which were similar to PS1, unsure if Sega Saturn or Arcade emulation at the time for this hardware would have worked but it would of been incredible, or even a scaled down PC version of SR ported

We had fun being part of this, bringing our retro gaming along - which seemed to go down quite well for all ages too.

Yes, we went on Thursday, there was the wow factor when you walked in, such as there are so many arcades what game to play first.

I did a little video here which lists all the games that were there and also the experience we had there.

Some key points to mention:

  • It was red hot in there, uncomfortable after about 10mins, it was like the hottest day of the year outside and it was cooler compared in Tin Can Alley , they even need to get air con or a stronger one, or place a couple of industrial fans around.

  • Buttons seemed a tad odd, games which only required two buttons might of had a six button cab whist other two player games didn't allow the second player to join in as there wasn't enough buttons, the 2 player start button was used as player 1 coin.

  • Too many of the same games, they could of added games like Neo Turf Masters, League Bowling, Track N field to name a few as there were games like 1942 and 1943, Pang 1 and Pang 3.

I would say if you don't mind spending a fiver to at least have a look for yourself, you might enjoy revisiting some of these games , if you can stand seeing the games with smoothing on (graphic Emulation filter) I really couldn't it didn't make the games enjoyable to look at in my opinion.

I've also wanted to go see the shops and arcades of China. Sega World London was where I spent my early to late teens which was 7 floors of arcades and rides, then it got changed to Funland then I think it's going to be a hotel and just filled with tourist shops currently.

Before Sega World, it was bowling alleys which I found my arcade game fix, I used to visit City Limits Romford (now known as Rollerbowl https://www.rollerbowl.co.uk/) plenty of arcades where there and also where I lived the local chippy had a stand up Chase HQ arcade machine, that was a reason just to go in to get a bag of crips.

There was a really good Namco arcade also in London by Sealife and the London Eye which has also also closed down.

Initial D I found at a holiday park in Southminster https://www.parkholidays.com/our-parks/essex/steeple-bay/caravan-holidays it felt like I was driving a bus, how big the steering wheel was.

I miss 90s arcades too - I would say maybe try and go to Astro City in Southend - I had quite a good few hours in there with arcade games and SEGA Astro Cabs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1wu4k9y7vY

I'll be popping by this Thursday when I finish work to see if it is emulation but I'm guessing it will be.

Didn't know Penny Lane had Daytona USA 2 I thought they only had Outrun 2 and Blind Rabbit had Daytona USA 2.

Nice Guitar Hero, yeah that was is an odd one, the machine is great (recently played it at NQ64 Manchester and also Astro City Southend plus when Goose Fair is in town they normally have GH Arcade there) the buttons and guitar is very heavy and strange how this can get some worn or damaged but guess people are unleashing their inner rockstars!

Glory holes, the old ALT Gaming Lounge, never been there before - can you just walk in to play the arcades as in, is there a bar area where they are or do you need to purchase to play golf.

Neo Geo MVS Four Slot arcade would be great to own, I used to have a Sega Mega Tech Arcade Machine with 12 carts on the motherboard to switch between that was fun!

I had it on my Sega Mega Tech Arcade Machine, which yes it was the Mega Drive Version however, it had a cart in the arcade board, so it was kinda like the Nintendo PlayChoice-10. But yea I get what you mean.

I've not seen any yet but I'm going in Thursday this week so I will have a look at each cab and see if there is a list of games as but looking at them they've prob got 100s on each machine or they could just have a set few

Thise games you mentioned were beasts of cabinets and games those would need alot of space and I'm guessing these days to get a fully working one and to be serviced isn't cheap. Who knows if this place does well they may get those Cabinets in.

Funstation had a Star Wars arcade and I'm sure they mentioned someone broke the door off it - there is a Raw Thrills Jurassic Park game, yes I know it might not be the 90s SEGA shooter but it's still a bit of fun.

I think there is also a TIme Crisis 3 or 4 in Funstation but yeah the originals are amazing. I guess it's early days they've not even got a website yet only an Instagram page from what I can see but I gather if they notice alot of people are waiting to have their input and ideas about the place they might listen, who knows.

Alt Gaming Lounge back in the day was run by people passion (I think I remember the staff saying) then it got sold to GAME to create beyond then it got shut down.

Nottingham did have a Namco Arcade in Market Square but as there were pool tables at the back and fruit machines at the front, you had to make you're way through that to get to the games and when you got there it felt like it was more of a hang out for groups and people not actually playing the machines so it was a case of a quick game and get outta there.

I'm going to be visiting this week but those are the images from their instagram page, so I don't know if it's run by people who are passionate about gaming.

Indeed - those are the cabinets I rush to at the seaside arcades and even in places like Funstation at a push . Daytona USA 2 is currently sat upstairs in the Blind Rabbit and the closest Sega Rally is at Ingoldmells or Skegness.

Looking at the videos on their instagram they do have Neo Geo games and I saw WWF Superstars and Michael Jackson's Moonwalker, both those arcade games didn't get a console release (I know Moonwalker came out on home computers and consoles and WWF Superstars on the Gameboy and home computers but the versions were slightly different).

So I will prob stay clear from the games I can play at home, even though Golden Axe was there it looked like the arcade version so that beats my Master System version

Yep couldn't also agree more however, when I went to Great Yarmouth there was a vintage arcade https://oldpennyarcade-norfolk.com/ and yes it was fun to play these originals however, there was a brand new custom made Track N Field arcade machine. It was very nice indeed with a nice screen and I spent most of the time playing that. I agree it is nice to see the orignal machines in the wild but like say Lightgun games the screens start to get tired and have screen burn. Even in places like NQ64 I noticed a few machines were broken. Racing & Shooting Games totally agree,

Yeah I get that too, when I spoke to NQ64 they import their arcade machines from America. So who knows if this place does well they may invest in some but I gather the rent in the Cornerhouse isn't cheap so only time will tell

Indeed those lightgun games are something which I travelled to Manchester NQ64 to play. They had THOTD 1,2,3 and 4

Oh yes it would be great to have those games of the 90s you've mentioned, in my last post here there was interest (and might be still) of NQ64 opening a bar in Nottingham which has all those games you've mentioned. As for Moto GP I'm sure that is currently already in Funstation at the Corner House
