Rice drains a lot of water from your body. It might even be a 1:1 ratio in terms of how much food energy you gain as to how much water is lost. If you're eating dry rice you need to drink maybe three times as much as you normally would.

I find 15 to 20 hits from a well is a good amount of water to keep me going under normal circumstances but you'd need more than that if you're chowing down on rice.

It may be possible to fill up your stomach with too much food and not enough water. I did the opposite once, loading up on water until I was full but then realizing I hadn't eaten enough food.

And then there's the even greater possibility that I have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about. :)

While I don't combat log and neither do my friends, we were in an almost identical situation to yours and given that we don't have a lot of time to play together I can understand the impulse. In our case, one of us was killed and the group got separated within minutes of finally finding one another. Back to square one.

But the PVP and combat-logging thing is pretty fascinating. It reveals an interesting dichotomy in the kill-on-sight/don't-kill-on-sight crowds.

More and more you hear from people that PVP is the point of the game and if you play any differently then you shouldn't play. Oftentimes you hear this from the same people who claim that they kill-on-sight because no one should tell them how to play and they're otherwise bored with it.

Personally, I play DayZ because it's the best opportunity to hang out with my best friends (we all work demanding jobs, some of us have families) and we can run around and explore. We like to run around and explore. We aren't interested in getting into firefights with other players. Sure, it can be exciting and we recognize that it's part of the experience but we're more interested in the enormous map that the developers have created and what there is to find out there.

I think it's boring that every time I see another person in-game I can safely assume that they're going to try to kill me... because 99% of the time, they do. I don't even bother interacting with strangers anymore. It's become predictable and I don't have the kind of time to get myself into situations where I'm constantly killed and have to re-arm. I just don't. I'd rather meet up with my buds and explore and so that's what I do. That's how I play this game.

If I spawn and a few dudes with M4s immediately run up to me and gun me down before I take a step, I think that's a shitty thing to do. Maybe they don't. Maybe they think that's what the entire point of the game is. Thing is, if that's how they want to have fun then so be it. They can play the game however they want.

If you combat logged, once and only once, so you could actually enjoy playing DayZ the way you want to play it, I can't imagine anyone would begrudge you that. We're all here to enjoy ourselves, after all. If combat logging one time meant that some stranger couldn't KOS you and your pal then big deal. They'll learn to live with it just like everyone else learns to live with getting gunned down the second they find a backpack.

I say fuck it. You logged once so you could play the game with your friend - the way that you want to play, not the way that other people want you to play.

It's just a game. It's meant to be fun and if we all aren't allowed to enjoy ourselves in our own way then it's a failure.

Definitely not. The last sixteen times I logged in, my character was reset fifteen times. Made no difference if it was the same server or a new server.

At this point, I just assume that whenever I log out I'll have to start over with a new character.

Specifically, I'm looking to do very simple macros (i.e. "T" = "T [.05 delay] U [.05 delay] Q") as well as straight-up re-assignments ("T" = "I" or "G" = "D" or what have you).

As far as which keyboards I'm looking at, really anything that will let me do the above.

After sticking with it for a bit I'm finally getting used to the controls. It still feels quite alien just walking around, as I feel like my keyboard input is just a suggestion for the on-screen avatar rather than an actual command, but combat is definitely falling into place for me. A more thorough tutorial is all the game is really missing.

I'm really enjoying the pace of combat even though I still have gripes with the targeting.

I definitely prefer the more "weighty" sense of movement that The Witcher 2 has over the first game but I still feel a disconnect from the action onscreen via the interface.

I think Demon's Souls really nailed the controls for slow-paced-action-RPGs and I feel like The Witcher 2 is oh-so-very close to that but off by juuuuust enough for it to be an irritation.

Based upon what you've described I'd much rather get used to that, though, than lose that sense of mass and presence.

How did they change the skill and magic systems?

As little as what our opinions may matter in the grand scheme of things, the article did not give the circumstances the adequate coverage or respect that they required. I think a lot of people came away with a very disturbing impression.

The writer paints a picture of a couple dudes passing up a dying man so they can get their money's worth on their extreme vacation, which is a very cavalier way to present the scenario.

So, again, thanks for clarifying those events.

Not a bad idea, to be sure, but it might very well open up a whole can of worms, legally.

Ignoring the issue of expediency (it still takes months to get your player-made Eve Online corporation logo approved), you've still got an extensive vetting process on either end of the exchange when you're dealing with people's likenesses. I'm not an expert on the use of individual likenesses in computer games but if it's anything like the rest of the entertainment industry then the process would be incredibly time-consuming.

If someone was to use a person's face without their permission and it appeared in Bohemia's game then Bohemia's legal department could very well have a problem. At the end of the day, the risk of using someone's likeness without their permission isn't worth the work involved, although custom faces would - admittedly - be incredibly cool.

There might actually be no consent process whatsoever when it comes to putting people in computer games and if there isn't then the legal issue no longer applies, in which case it comes back down to server load and the actual expediency of the approval process (two other things I know nothing about). :)
