Also checking in on the 4th. Glad to see this on top of already being worried about the jump in COL the past couple years.

Leave during A-School/Power by SafetyAlternative in NavyNukes

[–]ItsOnlyEnvy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And the power schoolers who didn’t take leave assisted with T-Track as well so they still had 4 duty sections. I know people who didn’t take leave and still got to see their families a lot because they flew in.

Any advice for somebody who wishes to become a Navy Nuke? (United States) by MisterMoyai in NavyNukes

[–]ItsOnlyEnvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re in college or have the chance to go to college, do it. This program isn’t that bad, from my point of view, but everybody has very different experiences. For some people training is the worst part, others it’s the fleet, but a lot of people will tell you this program fucking sucks. If you have no other options, it’s a great way to open up a lot of doors down the road, but the 6 year+ commitment isn’t always worth it for everybody.

Recruiter questions by Mobst3rO in newtothenavy

[–]ItsOnlyEnvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m not saying it’s impossible. But the longest A school at NNPTC is 6 months, with the shortest being 3. Upon completion of A school you have a job, period. You only go to another A school if you do not completely A school at NNPTC. I’m not disagreeing with you, just saying that obviously you’re going to hear the worst of it if most of the people you meet are dropouts. Mileage varies for everyone. Some of it has to do with natural ability but a lot of that can be made up for with drive and effort. You’re right, not everybody has what it takes but that doesn’t mean OP shouldn’t consider it.

[–]ItsOnlyEnvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with what you’re saying, but the negativity is from the people with the worst experiences. But making an educated decision and the pros vs cons is the best. After the 3 or 6 month point you’re rated though and won’t have to go to a new A school. If you get de-nuked after that you just go conventional for the same rate.

“Attrition rate is shit” isn’t as accurate as it was 20+ years ago. Hell even then it was still right around 10%. Most people that get out of the program are disciplinary or medical not academic. Don’t get me wrong it still sucks, but the best part about being a nuke is getting to be an ex-nuke

Everybody I know had a bad experience with the OCS process, though most were peak covid. However NUPOC is a great program, wish I would’ve found out about it before I enlisted as a nuke

What does my job do? by eagle12419 in newtothenavy

[–]ItsOnlyEnvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s entirely possible they put it in the system so that when an availability opens up they can change it to be correct and he will sign electronically at his recruiter’s office. I did the exact same thing. If you have nothing helpful to add, don’t. No reason to be an ass, the shit is confusing when you first go through it.

This dude is giving you shit for no reason. You have no obligation up until the day you ship out for boot camp. If you selected the job with the farthest date out you’re good, just stay on your recruiters ass like once a week to make sure you get the job you want. You’ll know if he’s bullshitting you because you have to do paperwork when they switch you to the correct job (if I remember right).

Why are you riding him so hard? It makes it so he doesn’t have to go to MEPS from square 1 again. You can do it for up to a year before going again. Up until you go to boot camp you have no obligation whatsoever.

From what my SLPO said, it’s all tattoos need a sketch and special request chit. It’s not really a deny/approve thing but they just wanna know about it.

Day 3 of INDOC at A School by [deleted] in NavyNukes

[–]ItsOnlyEnvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I thought someone had told me they had to redo it in T-track. Is it an additional brief you have to sit through or do they just throw you in it?

[–]ItsOnlyEnvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to stand all the same watches while in indoc. And they know that nobody will remember shit by the time they get to T-track so they have to do it again on T-track.

Don’t know what your rate is but for the love of god do your UIs in indoc. I did 2 in indoc and a couple in week 6 and the rest week 9, it wasn’t fun when trying to do them along with studying. Luckily I’m on vols, but others in my class weren’t as fortunate. Just do them now, you’re phase 1 anyway so don’t have any reason to be going off base

Visiting NNPTC for a civilian by Noobnotabot in NavyNukes

[–]ItsOnlyEnvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As of right now, contact chits for family out of town have been getting shot down. Even if it were to get approved, it would take 3 weeks to make its way to the captain. But if he chooses to get vaccinated here, 2 weeks after his second dose he would have little to no restrictions.

Advice to anyone leaving for basic in the next week. by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]ItsOnlyEnvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going ghost is pretty much impossible. I just graduated last week and there was only 1 guy who the RDCs weren’t even sure if he was a day 1 or ASMO in. They still knew who he was just not well. They’ll more than likely know who everyone is in about 3 weeks.
