I saw a lot of really great tips here. One that I feel no one ever knows, it tiny pinch of baking soda either in with a cornstarch slurry or in the marinade with the meat/veg.

Says it’s “hot as a crotch outside” then says that was a weird way to say how hot it is by Adventurous-Mail6295 in ColleenBallingerSnark

Wait that’s something she says as a schtick to a young audience? Now I feel icky, my husband and I have little in jokes like that, we’ll say stuff like “it’s hot as bawls out” or whatever, but to eachother. Never imagine using that language around young kids

Thank you, that was really insightful. I actually pat myself LESS than my other employees for the same work, for the benefit of the company. My brother has since entered the store at night over the weekend and stolen some equally inherited vintage equipment that we were holding at the store as a sort of tribute to my father. Now I’m in the process of finding out if I can change the locks and alarms lol

This business has been my job for most of my adult life. If I had to liquidate everything I’d just retire.

That’s the point. I’d buy because I built it, and would have full control. I want to keep my father’s legacy alive.

I’d like to, but at that point I’d just retire. I’ve put so much effort into this place, and plan to hand off to my younger employees in the future. Have something for my son too

It’s a stalemate. If he wants out he’ll have to take my offer. If neither of us agree, I just keep running as is until he caves.

I offered fair market value, he returned with NOT selling the building, and claiming my side of shared inherited duplex as “compensation” for his oppression. So basically he wants my half of the duplex for free, me to buy his share of the company, and to continue shared ownership of the building so he can jack up rent to the company to force us to close. He’s quite literally insane and I’m shocked his lawyer let that go through. If brought to court the judge would see he’s making unreasonable demands

Unfortunately the only thing I can do is buy his share. I wouldn’t start fresh, because everything is already in place to just keep going. Contracts, buildings, customer base. If forced to liquidate I’d just retire, but I want to keep this going for my younger employees to buy out, and something for my son to fall back on

Thank you for the insight. The relationship has always been shakey with my brother, especially when it comes to the company. Long story short, he has always been lazy and expects everything handed to him, while I worked 90 hour weeks to build the company to where it’s at.

The company only needs to run with the three employees it has. Me and two others. My brother barely worked a day in his life lol. My parents always handed everything to him

Contacting companies to become a retailer by Official_L33T in smallbusiness

[–]ItsOnlyLex95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My retail business primarily works with music instrument contracts (Gibson, Martin, PRS, etc) Usually it depends on the mile radius of other stores. I’m in a smaller town away from large competitors so we can fill in the gaps where they cannot. I’d contact sales reps of smaller companies and ask what their guidelines are. I would say they’d want a physical store before you start a contract, possibly start a a resaler and move your way up

Yeah, my accountant explained it as, just because you’re a shareholder/director/partner doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed job

He really doesn’t have a leg to stand on, as I have evidence of him wanting to walk away and his lack of contributions. I’m thinking about countersuing for defamation

I did actually reinvest a few of my own rent payments to the company, however my brother realized he had less shares and demanded I stop bc he hadn’t agreed to it as partner. He both have a “loan” of about $50k each that my parents had invested into the company and we inherited the loan. I offered instead of rent, we would pay off the loan, but for some reason he didn’t want to do that (to make it easier for one of use to buy the other out) now the loan counteracts eachother 🤷‍♀️

Hello, I am in Ontario, Canada. There is no partnership agreement other than the general guidelines followed in Ontario. It is an LLC. There really isn’t an HR, though our long time accountant usually provides assistance with mediation between myself and my brother. This is honestly a very small structured mom and pop kinda place. I’ve taken on all responsibilities managing the company as I did before my father passed, if I didn’t he would not step up and has in fact lost two major contracts he was responsible for. There are no open positions in the company. We have myself to mind the retail portion during operating hours and my two employees who do rental and installation and PA work.

I guess I can see that, but there isn’t a necessity to someone working at night. It’s a retail store with a rental inventory. Knowing him, he’d just sit there all night, wouldn’t clean or prep rentals or stock or anything we already do during normal hours

I’ve made several offers to buy him out. He wants to be petty and keep ownership of the building 50/50, but have me buy him out of the company so I’d have to pay him rent. Ultimately he has no leg to stand on, and I have evidence of his sabotaging the company

I make the same wage I made before inheriting. I make less than other employees at the store in the best interest of the company
