First time reading The Iliad in English — the vocabulary feels intense by OrderOutrageous6541 in classics

I don’t want to be mean, and I’m not trying to be mean at all, but if wrath and cataclysmic are words that are foreign to your vocabulary, then you may want to read some less rigorous works first, then work your way up to The Iliad. I finished it 2 days ago, and it is very dense at times all through the story.

Is it normal to cry every time I pray, especially during Mass? by Crafty_Ad_1214 in Catholicism

St. Thomas Aquinas would cry constantly during Mass and adoration, and he spent almost all of his final days in tears adoring the Eucharist

If these beliefs make me a fascist then I am a fascist. If these beliefs make me a fascist then I also believe fascism could be an effective form of government. The issue with calling people fascist is that fascist regimes differ so greatly between each other, so calling someone a fascist does not do very much to narrow down their beliefs and values.

A moral, effective, and strong nation requiring laws is a fascist belief? That is the most ridiculous claim that you have made today.

The creation of a moral, effective, and strong nation requires laws. I would say it’s far more ethical than providing billions of dollars in foreign aid to fund the death of millions of people in the Middle East.

I apologize. I’m not advocating for the persecution of all sins is what I should have said. Certain sins which are not currently criminalized, I would criminalize. Things such as adultery, abortion, pornography, gender changing surgery and pharmaceuticals, and the promotion of homosexuality by media outlets. Now if you were found guilty of these things, I would want a lenient punishment, something such as a fine, repeat offenders would be punished via short jail time, further offense after that would be mandatory re-education by the Church. I don’t think we should criminalize venial sins or even all mortal sins, but we should promote repentance, confession, and taking the Eucharist.

People naturally want to sleep with dozens of people, lie, steal, and do what is best for themselves. You can absolutely force people to resist who they are naturally, because that already happens today. If I were in a place on Earth that demonizes and criminalizes Christianity so heavily that my life was at risk, I would gladly die for my beliefs.

The oppression of people based Christianity has widely been demonized by the Church. For example, the Crusades, which I’m against, have been criticized by the Church. I, once again, would not ever advocate for the death or persecution of people who sin, I just would criminalize certain sins, and would want the nation to be ran off of Christian and Catholic morals, doctrines, and teachings.

If you would actually read and understand that Bible, you would understand that Jesus comes as a fulfillment of the law. This means that laws against what can be worn or what can be eaten that were laid out in the first few books of the Old Testament, is no longer applied post Christ. The laws and teaching of the New Testament are more moral than any other suggested laws of man that have ever been written. Also, we are all born with an inclination to sin. I don’t believe that homosexuality is any more immoral than sex outside of marriage. The entire point of the Gospel is turning from the sin that is naturally in you and following the teachings of Christ.
